hello thanks for the great session i am at the very beginning of Dutch i have a question when we want to create a question sentence from a regular one by using question words like waarom , waar, etc you are saying that just you do (inversion) and add the question word at the beginning of the sentence. How about boterhammen zijn van mij (sandwiches are mine) if i want to say which sandwiches are mine according to rule you mentioned it is supposed to be welke zijn boterhammen van mij ,,,,,,,, (instead of welke boterhammen zijn van mij) because the verb (zijn) and the subject (boterhammen) should be inverted and the question word will be written at the beginning of the sentence may you please clarify it for me thanks in advance
Hi! That's a really good question. Actually, 'welke' (which) and 'wiens' (whose) are not the same type of word as wie, wat, waar, hoe, waarom and wanneer. 'Welke' and 'wiens' always stay together with the noun. Basically, they are the question-version of 'deze' and 'mijn'. So: Deze boterham is van mij --> Welke boterham is van mij? And: Mijn auto is groen --> Wiens auto is groen? I wish I had included this in the video, but unfortunately it's not possible to edit them. Thanks for asking, though!
Aside from making lessons so easy to understand, you have such a reassuring spirit that us students find motivating. I hope all is well with you, Niels! Thank you for your amazing work 🙏🏽
I've been struggling with German in the past. I recently turned my attention to learning Dutch as well. Your videos are logical and easy to follow. The best content I've found on language learning. Thanks!
Great videos Niels! I backed you up on Patreon and I told my friends to do the same. I really like your way of teaching. Really relaxed and well explained. I'd love to see some videos with shortcuts, like you see on the book "Dutch for English-Speaking Expats". You're awesome! keep it up jongen
Dude you are such a legend, your videos are helping me so much. I am moving to the Netherlands next year so will be watching all of them repeatedly! :)
Please come back man I charish these videos. I hope all is well with your new job and pray that you will have time to produce more videos in the future. No need for such high quality, just your teaching is enough :)
love the straightforward yet clear way you explain the subjects in your videos. language learning apps have been helpful for me but none of them really explain how sentence construction and grammar actually work. ive learnt a lot more about that from watching your stuff. thanks!
Hi Niels! Your videos help me a lot a lot a lot. I’m learning Dutch in Brussels with CVO . The teacher is good but the problem is that the teacher only speaks Dutch in the Dutch class and so she can’t explain clearly the rules of grammar . I was still confused about the grammar after one month learning . Thank you so much you make everything clear
I just found your channel, I'm doing an intermediate class and can't speak English in class to ask basic questions about the fundamentals that I've forgotten- these videos are so helpful mate, I'll share with my classmates and drop a donation via Patreon
Hi Niels! I find your videos really clear and helpful. And I love the fact that you teach different stuff from other RUclipsrs. Groeten uit Argentinië!
You should never stop your vedios cause I really need to more vedios to understand your language in addition to the amazing way you present your lessons 😀
I started learning Dutch in September and have recently discovered your channel, I love the way you explain everything, it really helps a lot. Dank je wel en ik hoop dat je meer video's maakt! :)
I really like your videos and wonder if you have one that explains when to use je, jij, jullie or jou? I get very confused when to you which. Keep them coming please and thank you.
Beste Niels, jouw video's zijn ontzettend interessant. Kunt u misschien een video maken over wanneer wij de/het + beste/meeste + bijvoeglijk naamwoord/adjectief + st gebruiken? Mijn tweede vraag is ik word echt dankbaar als u een video maakt over wanneer moeten we jou en jouw zeggen! Mijn hartelijke groet, Yasin Jafari Chofe uit Heerenveen Friesland
Is it possible to ask questions in inversie? Like we have the sentence: (Normal) Ik heb tassen. (Inversie) Tassen heb ik. (Question) Heb ik tassen? So, me as a beginner Dutch speaker, I am asking, questions in inversie like “Tassen ik heb?” are grammatically correct? If not, how to ask questions in inversie? Are they even possible? EDIT: Grammar
Hi Benjamin! Yes, that's a very good topic. I do want to discuss that some time, but as you can see, I don't get to make new videos very often, so I can't make any promises.
The letter "y" does not exist in Dutch. Instead we have the "ij" which used to be one letter, but in this keyboard times we write it as "ij". It is pronounced as the english "i" in the word "ripe" (not quite, but close). Only at the end of a word with vocals in front (like in my surname, see above) it is pronounced as the english "y" as in "yonder".
Hey Niels, I am from Germany and would like to learn some Dutch for travelling but esp. to visit Amsterdam. I am very surprised to learn that the Dutch are extremly well at speaking English but I am somebody who "respects" each national culture by learning some basic level of the home country's official language. Anyway, is it true that's "sufficient" to know good English [without knowing Dutch] in order to get along with the natives ?
Hey Niels mate? Do you like to play zwaartvechting? :) Ya know? That very unique type of fencing you guys have in the Netherlands if you can call it a type of fencing! XD Ya know? It's that same type of swordsmanship sport that's pretty much similar to kendo what they have in Japan! 😃😃😃😃😃

Quick question, is " y " always pronounced like the English y in "yellow " ?
