So many stories in the Lake Mead blotter are reported exactly like this, it's sad. "Just jumped in for a second". What is going on there? Weather wasn't even bad that day just hot. Outside the usual intoxicated/inexperienced/unprepared that makes up most of the drownings, it seems there is something more at play here. Some of our viewers suggest rip currents or undertow going on below the surface... among other things.
If there’s a cave or craves under the water has momentum all big bodies of lakes do they will suck you under and if tired or get a cramp you can sink easily. The fresh water is not like ocean water so you don’t float always wear a life jacket so you stay a float. People never see the hidden danger it’s the beauty of the water it only takes 8, seconds to go under and not be able to float you go straight down if you don’t have energy to swim strong enough. Gravity pulls you under please just make sure you’re wearing a life jacket and you will never drown.
No life jacket in fresh water is like trying to walk on a log laced with oil. These fresh water bodies won’t let your body float like sea water where the salt and pressure is greater than you it’s easier to float in salt water fresh water works opposite you can sink easily and drown. You will go straight down to the bottom. I advise to always wear a life jacket in any open water or river it will save you from unexpected surprises. I was trained by the coast guard back in 2008~ I pains me to see people loose their life because they aren’t aware of the hidden dangers. Always wear your like jackets your head will remain above water even if you’re tired. Swimming in any water is the equivalent of walking a block on all fours to get to the store I bet you will tire fast. Swimming is the best cardio but you need to be safe you ever wonder why you get so hungry after swimming? Please always wear a life jacket there’s no heroes in war without a rifle same without a life jacket.
They don’t wear life jackets the water will suck you under the gravity of cavity suction is not visible. Always wear a life jack in deep waters it’s not a toddler pool. What if there’s under water tow? Or what if you just get a cramp? Never swim in any lake or river without a life vest.
Watch our video "Deadliest Park"👍 This has been a re-occurring theme at Lake Mead for decades. Most likely you guessed right. Many times Intoxication and/or shock from jumping in 55 degree river water on a 110 degree day. That, or something *else* is going on there🤔 These stories happen almost monthly.
The fact nobody wears a life jacket is what gets you fresh water is not like salt water it will suck you under always wear a life jacket. Don’t be a hero. The gravity is pulling you under hence why people disappear? Just wear the jacket any time you’re in any open water lakes or rivers.
The gravity pulls you under you won’t float like salt water. Wear a life jacket regardless if you plan on swimming or not what if the boat catches fire always be ready and responsible life jacket means you get to go home.

110 degrees all day, full of beer- dive in and hit that cold water.
I don't know there's more to this story
There always is and you will always never know what it is…
These waters are not joke ! Wear your life jackets anytime you’re jumping in the water. Doesn’t matter how good of a swimmer you think you are.
Wear your lifejackets at Lake Mead!!!! Everytime i've ever gone to the Lake i hear about someone who drowned that day. Its different!!
Shock too the system 🥶

My condolences 💐🙏🏼🕊️✝️🌹
How the hell do you go for a swim, and not return? Did they both get leg cramps about the same time and go under?
