Awesome video, very nice playing and mic selection, thanks! Listening on Audio-Technica ATH-M70x monitor headphones. The DPA 2011c is very interesting, it's as if it already had been mixed / compressed, especially the lows and mids, sounds stronger than the others, or as if it had been placed closer to the strings, which of course is not. For example it really makes the A-flat chord (4:51) sound larger than the others. The Shure KSM141 is similar to the DPA 2011c but simpler, maybe less interesting but more realistic. The Neumann KM184 is the most detailed, might be the most sensitive: it's very noticable how much the high A-flat in the right hand over the 4th chord (4:11) is audible/sustained, while it sounds much shorter through the other mics. AKG C451B is the brightest, slightly unnatural/digital while the Neumann KM184 is also not dark but still pleasant, smooth in comparison. Neumann KM184 seems to be the best, it's difficult to rank the rest. Depends on the music to be recorded.
@@jonathanlam9825 thank you for letting me know! I've heard about the new "X" series. It sounds 100% professional what you are doing. Truly excellent recording and playing.
DPA bass is a little dry for me... Neumann ( probably my favourite here ) has lush full bass... they other two good. I like the Shure ability to go omni
Thank you for an excellent demonstration-great choice of microphones...great playing!
Thanks so much for this test. Would love to see more of your microphone comparisons.
Super helpful, thanks for the video!:)
Beautiful playing which makes the demo WORK. I went back-and-forth several times between mics.... Neumann KM 184 is my choice.
You play the piano SO beautiful. Thanks for the music... oh and the comparison, but I kind of forgot about that...
Thanks for your comment

Thanks for the very detailed comment, I personally like the low end from dpa2011, and the mid high from Km184
Great video, thank you ! What preamp did you used to record ?
Recorded with Allen and Heath dLive console preamp
fuck the mics... what a beautiful comfort piano tone and playing presented..bless you
Thanks for your comment

which other mic sounds most like the 184? Hard to tell with RUclips compression.
How do you like the Shures?
DPA 2011 is sound like km184, but with warmer low and clear high end, I prefer DPA2011.
Shure ksm141 is cost effective, sounds acceptable
@@jonathanlam9825 so the DPA is your favorite Small Diaphragm Condenser?
Yes, I like dpa2011, but I do use akg c451b sometime for darker mic choice

What song is this? Is there sheet music for this? Absolutely beautifully played.
It is some random chord progressions come out of my head, thanks for your appreciation
@@jonathanlam9825 So beautiful. Can you make sheet music for this beautiful piece? I am learning piano and would love to learn to play like this.
Are you familiar with the Oktavas mk012 mics?
I’m not
Calvin Wong, Violin Teacher
What Interface did you use? Beautiful music as other commented. Very clear presentation. Thanks.
I was using Allen & Heath dLive console, feed to computer via Dante, thanks for your comment
Small diaphragm condenser mic comparison under $2000

What a great video... Press the 100th like
Great review!
What's the name of the piece you played?
It is not really a piece, I just jammed some chord progressions
@@jonathanlam9825 Thank you, really beautiful!
Great playing but all the mics sound the same even with headphones. Proves that performance and mic placement are most important.
