  • Car wax, or carnauba wax, definitely has some uses. In the right circumstances you can use it on your guitar, but it may not be for the purpose that you're thinking of. In this video we talk about whether you can use car wax on your guitar, and for what. We also discuss the difference between this type of wax, polish, compound, etc.

It worked better than I expected. Removed all the horrible haze I made a year ago when I tried wet sanding with hand which was a total nightmare on my fingers. I have used StewMac's compounds and polish kit, but I find that the compound mashes too easily into the clear (this is after waiting about 3 days in a heated garage for the paint and clear to harden a bit).
    I prefer high grit sand papers (2000 and up) after clearing a guitar. For me personally I don't run the risk of sandpaper drying out as compounds do ( you get a huge amount from StewMac), and I can polish out all of the markings with each high grit sandpaper. It is more elbow grease doing it by hand, but I do love the results I get. Again to each his/her own :-)

    Ok, great information Brad.
    I have a ceramic coating on my car for added protection; Once you have got your guitars finish how you want it, whether it be glossy or matte, do you think an application of ceramic coating would interfere with the finish, ie, turn the matte glossy; or do you think, like the carnauba, it would just add another layer of protection without interfering with the finished look. I’m asking because the ceramic coating is supposed to protect against minor scratches, which I think could be useful on a guitar.
    Cheers Brad.

    • @BradAngove
      @BradAngove  5 лет назад +1

      The carnuba would still make a matte coat look glossier. It just wouldn’t polish it properly.

    Hey I have a question for you regarding the use of say a transparent red paint on a guitar. I am refinishing a Gibson SG and the customer wants it red. From what I can tell Gibson always does those in a transparent red finish. So my question for you is this; Do I use a primer underneath the red?
    Also, the body is Mahogany while the neck is Maple, if I am not using a primer what's the best way to color match the neck and body? Since the Maple is such a lighter wood the red will obviously be lighter, because I am using a transparent red. I imagine an Opaque red it wouldn't matter because I would be covering the tone of the wood up with the paint and primer.

      @BradAngove I just bought a guitar off Kijji with a very light color Indian laurel figerboard,for the price I couldn't go wrong.I was just wondering if you had any suggestions of how to safely stain it? There is a vid on your channel about oiling.

      @jslute I have one in my acoustic guitar kit series about dying a fretboard.
