You gotta do You Should Be Here. My favorite Cole Swindell song and it means a lot to me. In the past six years I've lost a ton of family. That song makes me remember them.

My cousin has been gone for almost 2 years, she was my best friend. I still find myself going to send a text message and realizing... that it's not going to reach her. I started a journal full of letters to her for those moments when I just need a Dani fix. Or feel like she needs to know something, no matter how big or small. We kept her phone number, and probably always will... but we leave it turned off so, sometimes when I just need to hear her voice I call and listen to her voicemail... It's funny how for a moment every time, I still think she's going to answer. Not sure that will ever go away.

I know I've already commented and I loved this song. One song that I love that hits home with what you're saying is Mat Kearny - Closer to Love. (Not country, so I understand if you don't want to review it. But it's a great song. The opening lyrics hit you right off the bat!

Cole's father died in 2013 so this was written about him. Watch You Should Be Here by Cole for a real tear jerker.

Cole didn't actually write this song but his Dad did pass away fairly recently though.
He has an earlier more upbeat song called Ain't Worth The Whiskey which I think came out while his Dad was still alive but he later co-wrote a song called You Should Be Here after his Dad died, where you see him on his bus phoning his Dad to tell him he has signing to Warner. He also performed the song at the Opry too shortly after his death.
Presumably the premise of the song is his Dad's old phone number has been issued to someone else but he forgets and still keeps ringing it from time to time by force of habit, for the reasons you mention in your summing up.

His dad didn’t pass away “fairly recently” he passed away back in 2013 just a few months after Cole signed his deal with Warner. This song wasn’t written by Cole, but the premise of the song is trying to call the number of a parent who’s gone and forgetting that it’s been reissued.

@@dragonbleid5690 Fairly recently is all relative, especially depending on the age of the person saying so and that my post was from over a year ago. Fairly recently differs to using the word recently alone too.
And yeah I understand the premise of the song but I often feel actual songwriters do not get enough credit when people just assume (not necessarily in a bad way) by default that the singer is also the writer.
Especially after having read people say things like:
"(insert name of singer) is so moving with his/her lyrics"
and that kind of thing, as well as even reading people say that:
"(insert name of singer) wrote this for his/her (insert loved one relationship)"
when they did not even write the song.

They have to produce good musicians because Alabama owns them on the football field RTR. All in good fun. The older you get the more you appreciate life and realize how precious the simple things are.

I'm a new subscriber to this channel. I kept seeing you pop up in the sidebar as a recommended for me, so I gave you a look. I've been loving your thoughts on what I have watched so far. Question for you - would you be willing to take a listen and react to an artist without a record deal? I ask, because there is an artist from my state who I feel is not as known as he should be.

Hey Morgan, welcome to the club! And I'm happily surprised that I've been showing up in your sidebar--you're the first one to mention that so it gives me encouragement. As for your recommendation, if you can post a link to a song of the artist from your state I can probably get to it within a month, maybe less if my move goes smoothly.

Not really struggling, just trying to figure out what the lyricist was doing and I'd gotten some ideas along the way as to what I thought would have made a better case for what s/he was going for. But the concept is a good one, even though the "willful suspension of disbelief," that he would keep dialing the wrong number, seemed strained. But not being able to share life's best and hardest times with one's beloved father will always get me.
