It is so awesome to see someone who understands that not all dog homecomings are like exploding rainbows! Some dogs are very sensitive and get stressed and out of sorts and take some time to come out of that place, and sadly, are judged because of that. (Many shelter dogs are like this, they just shut down and it can even look like aggression, but it's fear.) So thank you for allowing each dog to be themselves and unconditionally loving them; you are very special! Blessings...LL101

At the beginning I thought: Why does my puppy not love me like your dogs love you? But honestly, I know why... You trust and love them, and they trust and love you. When Kaladin gave that little growl, you were understanding, where I would have been probably a bit upset. When the bitey dog needs to let out his frustration, you offer a toy instead of prohibiting biting without offering an outlet... In the other videos of you I see, you do not ask/expect your dogs to work for you without getting "paid" where other people want their dogs to work because "they are the alpha" or just out of pure love... You don't demand that, and that's what gives you all of their love.
But well. I have my puppy only for 2 months now, I have plenty of time to gain her love and trust and prove myself worthy to be her leader.

    • @AdventureswithLycanmyGSD

It took me months of earning my GSD's trust and I got him at 8 weeks old. Then he went through all those crazy phases which offered me more opportunities to earn his trust and respect. He is 3 years old now and and there is nothing he wont do for me, even when I do not have a toy or treat, he will try his hardest, even if he is not successful, only because I asked him to, of course if he is unsuccessful well, that's okay too. He is an amazing dog.

Border collie would also be a challenge! What about a working line lab, to have the balance between what you already had with a lab (chill character) and what you would like about a border collie (working drive)?

I remembered something that happened to me just like the start of the video. I had a dog when my parents split, but as he was a Labrador used to have a big place to stay in a big house, he wouldn't fit well in the small appartment my mother was moving to, so I couldn't take him.
I visited somewhat often, but one day my father went to another city for work. He didn't take the dog, so my grandma used to feed him (her house was accross the street, so she was ok with it).
From then, on, he started having less and less time with people, and an ever increasing time alone, aside from the visits my grandma made to make sure he was well cared for, and the cleaning worker that swept his area up.
I was taking the separation with some difficulty, furthermore, I had too many activities that my parents deemed "necessary to worn me down" (I have ADHD, but at the time no one cared enough to believe me, or take me to run tests), so I was always mentally and physically drained, which caused me to visit him even less.
One thing I was always afraid of, is that if I spent too much time away, he would eventually forget me. I had a great relationship with him, and even if he wasn't the most well trained dog, he was perfect on leash (to me, at the time at least) and was never violent towards anyone or any other dogs, (except one older black labrador, which he really didn't like for some reason and bit him for my surprise and to the other owner as well (he wasn't harmed, we were just jumpscared by his aggression)).
Anyway, one day I went to visit him on a whim, I said fuck it to all the other crap my parents assigned to me and wanted to check on him. He saw me from his "corral's" gate, and didn't come running as usual. He kinda got up came walking to the gate, I was weirded out, but there were no signs of aggressive behavior so I just thought he might be sad or tired. I pet him, he didn't care much, then went back to his dog house (a wooden dog house that I bought and carried home with my father, from a guy under a bridge in my town (he had several houses he made, they were cheap and very sturdy). I followed, as I always did before.
I went to fit myself on the entrance of the house and sit beside him, like I always did and he didn't scoot over for me to fit. I was starting to get a little upset about this behavior, so I started talking to him: "Hey buddy... What's up? Don't you remember me? What happened?"
And as I talked I pet him on the head and neck as he liked, and he just growled, softly, but truly. It wasn't a random noise, or any huffing and puffing. It was a low, tired growl.
That shit made me feel like the most inhumane being on earth. It made me feel like I failed him, because I abandoned my best friend, and despite wanting to be around, I couldn't/wasn't able to
Because of that, he distanced himself so much from me to a point where he considered harming me for petting him.
Although I was still 13 or 14 at the time, I felt every bit responsible for this, and cried like a child.
I loved that pup, but I fucked up.
To everyone else that owns any pets, don't make the same mistake. Cherish them, and stand by them. No matter what.
They're the purest beings on this retched planet.
It's starting to rain here, I should get going.

I've had a few Czech/DDR sables and they've all had that same emotional response. Very sensitive, resiliant and forgiving.

One of my field labs says hello like Magnus the Magnut. Identical, except my Lab won't chew you to bits. He's really high drive!!! Wants to train a bit much. Basically he is like managing Mal energy.
