This incident was covered on the show Mayday/Air Disasters. The pilot had a history of depression, he was discharged from the Air Force because of it. He did not tell the airline about his medical history. He was having some conflict at the airline and had in fact handed in his resignation. On the approach, according to the CVR he had a meltdown. He nearly hit the tower trying to land, was not lined up but tried to land anyway, coming in semi sideways and crashed.. The FO didn't intervene, it seemed she was totally dumbfounded by the Captain's outburst.

The captain resigned before that flight. He was probably forced to fly after he resigned because US Bangla had no other pilots capable of flying to Nepal.
The co pilot was unfamiliar with Nepal airport cause she didnt fly there before. So that captain was piloting and talking at the same time.

Planes can land on either side as there's only the one runway. If approaching from the front the runway is called 02 but if approaching from the back it's called 20. When Banglastar 211 first approached the runway they were coming at it from the front so were cleared to land on 02 but the pilot completely missed it and went towards 20 instead which is when all the confusion started.
Every time the runway was clear the ATC tried to give the pilot the option of landing on either end because it seemed the pilot was confused and kept going to the opposite landing thinking its runway 02.
Eventually the pilot decided to land sideways on the runway to prove a point. 🤦‍♀️

What's wrong with the ATC? It seems his/her english skills are too poor, he/she made it super confusing. I could not understand if he was saying runway 02 or 20, totally mixed up. Definitely the pilot was responsible but all the issue started when the incompetent ATC gave mixed up instructions.

I was completely unaware that Indians(da-da's, not wah-wah's) allowed women to be pilots?

The pilot actually smoked in the cockpit... and he also misbehaved quite a lot with the co-pilot. He was told to land in runway 20 but he tried to land from the opposite side (runway 02)

@@MahfuzurRahmanopu excuse me pilot bhaiya!! You need to learn English instead! If he was so "experienced" why did he get so confused from the first place? Why was he drunk? Why did he smoke in the cockpit and misbehave with the co-pilot?? What kind of pilot ever smokes in the cockpit? The voice records prove that he was indeed confused between the runways 02 and 20 and was way too tired to fly the plane.
