    It's hilarious to me that Laine of all people is talking about how hard people are trying. The dude hasn't developed one bit since he came into the league. He's still just a dude with an ungodly shot and nothing else. He plays no defense. He stands there 90% of the time on the PP, and if things get physical, he gets out muscled despite being the size of a power forward. Then if you touch him he gets hurt, or disappears for weeks till his next heater.

    1. Someone that played/coached 5+ seasons
    2. Former face of franchise
    3. A very beloved player that may have played fewer than 5 seasons (defensemen, goalies, captains would be top of list here)
    4. Tributes (Johnny hockey, retiring players, players who pass away but were one time greats on the team, trainers or coaches retiring)
    There's probably a could edge cases in missing but this would cover the most applicable reasons to have a video package for someone.

      @@BF2021-kf8xz The most obvious thing is the coaching staff. There wasn't a single legit head coach in the team during his entire tenure. Torts was out of the door and checked out by that point. Then the replacement was a cheap internal promotion. Finally they go dive into the bargain bin and find Babcock, who's out of the door before the season even starts. Again, the replacement is a cheap internal promotion.
      Not to mention that their whole staff seemed to be like the 200th best candidate for each job. Career goons as skills coaches and so on. It all starts from the owner and his representative, who care about penny pinching more than getting the players what they need. Yeah they spend to the cap, but no they don't spend on literally anything else.

    2:51 they did a video package for Kuemper in his first game back in DC and honestly.... Like....... Why? That was an export that just did not work. He was 1 for 1 traded out of the organization and he didn't do anything all that substantial while he was in DC.
    No offense to him, I actually have a lot of respect for him as a goalie, but..... That felt so unnecessary

    CBJ had a video tribute for Laine but scrapped it after hearing Laine's interview.

  • @MrXanderii
    @MrXanderii 15 часов назад +5

    I think Laine was talking about the culture that he played in. It was more about the organisation. And to be honest why else would they fire the coach and gm and bring in Waddell. Sometimes a team developed a losing mentality. Heck when Laine was hurt in Montreal just this year and Montreal was losing the bulk of those games, people were concerned that Montreal was developing a losing mentality. So I get what Laine was saying. Maybe he just shouldn't have said it.

    • @devackroyd
      @devackroyd 14 часов назад

      The losing culture thing is absolutely real. Team's lose the ability to do (or know how to do) what it takes to win when you're in a situation like Columbus. It is a really hard thing to break free from. However, I agree with Werenski. Laine making those comments publicly is bullshit, especially given that he was part of that losing culture and was criticized for poor effort more than once in Columbus. This is not even to mention that Montreal (despite having lots of potential) is still spinning their wheels a little bit in terms of results, it's not like Laine went to a contender. There are multiple reasons why those comments are beyond tone deaf.

      I think he was talking about the culture that he played in, and the organization, too - but then he was asked to clarify whether he was talking about the organization or about his teammates, and he said "use your imagination." How is any player still in that room supposed to read that? No, I believe he intended to have it be about the organization as a whole, but in actuality, he laid a lemon at their feet. A guy who played 174 out of 302 possible games complained about a losing culture on a team that didn't have him on the ice for 128 games over 4 seasons.

    On the subject of making career retrospectives of Bruins players, in addition to Johnny Bucyk, it might be interesting to have one for Terry O' Reilly or Wayne Cashman? Just a thought... Merry Christmas to Shannon and all the viewers of this channel.

    Sid likely passes Mario this time last year. I don't think anyone thought he would still be a point per game player but had it not been for concussions, I think we would be looking at a 2000 point career.

    Agree that a player did a short stint, 2 years or less, no video package is necessary. I believe it depends on what a player means to the city and team whether they should do a video package or not. Otherwise it just gets weird or not very memorable.

    Tribute videos should be reserved for those who made something worth tributing. I'd say that would be having a prominent role in the team for at least 5 or so seasons or have done something like scoring a Stanley Cup winning OT goal.
    But it's the current year. Everyone needs to get a cookie so nobody's feelings are hurt.
