Definitively an XL engine at the least in the Jav, as it only has 9 slots to be allocated in her side torsi, and probaly also endo steel(5% of mech total tonnage for IS Endo), since the engine only gives you 3.5 ton and they put 5 tons of extra equipment in there in comparison the the JVN-10N this is based on (4 med lasers and a ton of ammo). Edit regarding Los-Tech: Any equipment not standard is LT, also any Streak, Artemis, ER, Pulse, Ultra and LBX veriants as well as AMS and the Gauss are LT
Looks like the Hero Cyclops will be the closest thing I'll be able to get to a Fafnir (a 100-Ton Assault), as the Fafnir comes standard with two Heavy Gauss Rifles mounted in the Right & Left Torso, as well as a 2 ER M Lasers & 1 M Pulse Laser.
The Kintaro GB (ALL THE MISSILES) is epic, but don't let your AI lancemates pilot it if you have expensive equipment in it. The Spider A is amazing for Raids and Assassination missions.
I could be wrong, but, since this game has no way to see if its XL I doubt it. I really hope they did not throw invisible XL's in if they do kill you. Either I have not had a XL or they don't kill you.
my marauder doesn't explode on losing a side torso so I would guess no(pretty sure it comes with an XL by default) its also a frustrating mech to play tho, because the arms like to get blow off and well that is good and all but when you want to put a T3+ PPC in there it is a pain....
@@kinggoten I have been getting really lucky with mine. 2 T3 ER ppc's and I have not lost a arm yet. Yet. I find the quickdraw to be 10x worse. But yah, I still have seen nothing to make me believe XL is a actual thing in mechwarrior 5

Omg!! I skipped the urbie k9!! I cant believe I didn't know this aaaagh!! I saw the ultra 5 and thought 3mill was a waste of money for an urbie..... ugh
So... I see just a few hero mechs have the custom paint that we see in MWO (Centurion YLW, Catapult Jester, Grey Death, Marauder Bounty Hunter, etc....)....... Why is that? Are the rest of the paints out of cannon? are you able to customize the plain looking hero mech to have the same paint as in MWO??
hi all, wanted to ask something about this game I cannot find out; When starting a mission, is the drop tonnage fixed? Is there something I can do to increase it? Maybe reputation has an effect on how much tons of mechs you can take into battle?
I found another way to get double heat sinks. I did a mission with free sky dipshits or something like that and after completion one of the rewards was a case (12) of double heat sinks. Score!
So I inspired you it seems. Yay me :D. I am guessing if you see lostech on a mech like a gauss rifle or a pulse laser then they might come with double heatsinks. Just a guess though. And i would assume they only appear as rare mechs to buy.
So far, I've never seen even a single salvageable Hero 'Mech, but I've seen quite a few being sold in industrial hubs every so often. In one of my playthroughs I actually grabbed the Hero Jenner & Blackjack just to try them out and see how effective they were if I actually use them. My AI lance-mates seem to fare very well in the Hero Jenner (I've never seen that Jenner lose so much as a single arm, and it's only being piloted by one of my starter pilots). The Blackjack with those 6 MGs shreds enemy vehicles & structures really easily and also seems to do well at tearing through enemy 'Mechs as well. The biggest problem in my eyes is that it's armor is a bit too thin for my tastes, since the Hero Blackjack is pretty clearly initially intended to be a very close-range "brawler", but it's armor doesn't hold up as well as I'd like, especially compared to my normal Enforcer & Phoenix Hawk (haven't been able to get my hands on a Shadow Hawk or Kintaro yet....I did have an opportunity to buy a normal Jagermech for about 1.9 M C-Bills, but it was in *AWFUL* condition as only it's Head, Right Torso, Right Leg, and Left Torso were still intact, so I figured the repair costs for the thing wouldn't really be worth it, so I passed on that Jagermech even though it *could* have been my first Heavy if I *had* bought it).
Thank you, you earned my subscription! These mechs are expensive I appreciate that you made this video so that I can better spend my hard earned C-bills.
I took the double heatsinks off a Hero mech and put it in my Firestarter. It shreds with small and medium lasers going with machine guns. I can take out the turrets and vehicles quick so my lancemates can concentrate on mechs.
Funny thing about the idea. Majority of the mechs you salvaged is too broken to get anything out of it. The ones available on the market are pretty broken. I found that you can actually buy them (hard to come by) AFTER you finish the story quest. I got most of my double heatsinks from salvage.
They could easily make a DLC when they advance the timeline. With the discovery of the Helm Memory Core, advanced modification of mechs became possible. In the current timeline, mech technology is barely understood.
MWO's and TT original customization is complete broken. Nipple sized AC'20/HGausses is what makes MWO such a min-max galore and erases the uniqueness around mech variants. But yeah switching Endo/Ferro and XL engines should totally be in the game as they add depth but are more balanced in-game due to the need for maintenance(which MWO glances over with insta repairs at low costs).
Yeah, limiting weapons to small, med, large slots is a great thing. Remember this troll Daishi build with 7 or 8 PPC wich kills both ,Target and Shooter in MWO ? What a mess. Good it is not in MW5. Love it.
I can say with certainty, these Hero mechs are not cheap. I've seen 2 Wolverines, and they were both 11 mil each. I've managed to get one, trying to scrape enough for the 2nd
Ingeloak I wouldn't dare to give AI piloting Wolverines. RA loss is a big loss. If you're piloting it yourself, you can mostly ensure enemies are to your left so you don't dmg your precious RA
So does a mech with XL engine blow up when you pop a side torso like normal? Seems like the engine type would be vital info to have when running a mech unless it doesn't matter in combat.
HAHA the first Hero-Mech i saw was the K9. I thought UAC5 is probably Lostech...so 2.8mil seemed cheap AND i want to gather ALL Hero Mechs i come across....so instant buy ^^
Idk if things have changed much in the good* year 2021 for this game but I've just started with game pass and so far I've found very quickly a few things people say are really good. The warhammer 6r, kintaro 18, and the urbanmech canine. Idk if I'm lucky or had the opportunity only because I knew to look out for them minus the urbanmech which was a happy accident.
@@bojanjovanovic6716 the 10 doubles comes from a steiner area, but its a faction against steiner and the AMS i think is all the way at the bottom of the map in the purple area.
It is the high value quest where you fight for the Free Skye Movement. You can choose to either fight for them or against them. When you fight for the FSM, you get 10 DHS as a reward. (it is near Terra, left of it).
I switch out the pulse lasers with regular ones and drop one of the SRM4's, replace the rest with tier 4/5 + ARTEMIS IV, add more heatsinks and ammo and suddenly you're a mid-range brawler that outclasses anyone who could possibly damage you that significantly. In about 10-15 seconds I can solo an entire lance of heavies
Nice video! Is this in campaign or career mode? I bought the game last month. I saw only a few hero mech during the campaign until I completed the main campaign.
I only played the campaign and i got 40 heroes so far. You just have to grind away and travel a crap ton. I also do a bunch of multi missions. If you do them for a faction you're in good standing with, you can usually get a 11 to 13 million pay out per mission ( comes out to about 60to 65 mil after salvage) once you get into the higher difficulties.
It is nice to know that it is a reliable source of DHS, but what happens when one gets destroyed? Is there another reliable source to acquire them or do the mechs just progressively get worse due to needing to change out to singles after damage?
When a DHS gets destroyed it needs to be removed/replaced. Don't worry though, they get much more common as game time passes. Around 3048 you find them all over the place. I hit January 3050 last night and I'm sitting on about 30 spare DHS.
The Yen-Lo-Wang color scheme pattern are unique to this varient of the Centurion. The simple answer, it would not be that variant without the pattern as it is part of its lore.
@@Belgereth75 I forget how MWO does things. But, some special mechs did not come with custom paints but the other often hero mechs do. I think some of these are special variants not just hero. Could be wrong.
I'm level 6 doing the campaign and the only mechs for sale I've seen are Locusts, can't find any pilots to recruit and never seen a pulse laser. I'm disappointed to be honest. Maybe it gets better after the campaign.
Thank you for this! Probably a silly question, but if you buy a hero mech and sell it back (after stripping it), would it still show up again in the marketplace in the future? Also, how is a rare mech different from a standard mech?
Yes, it will show up again. You should even be able to strip, sell, travel to an adjacent system, then back, and be able to buy it again with full equipment.
Found mine in Davion Space. I just bought it because it's a Hero mech and I am collecting all the Hero mechs. About freaked as it also gave me my first DH. I didn't even realize I had them as I just dumped it into Cold storage after I bought it. lol
I bought a rare medium 55ton yesterday it had 2 uac5 a small laser and I want to say 1 or 2 doubles in it. It was 9mil and I just bought it to fluff my number as I only have 3 pilots and 4 mechs which was making multiple missions a bit tough not sure if more rare mechs will have them or not. Also the planet is down and left of the one that sells the urbie with all the doubles in it.
hello TTB DHS hunt is one thing but also you should do compareson to normal mechs to see where you have endo or ff. good example here are hero rifleman's there is 2 of them and just one of them have endo and it makes huge difference in fits.
Me and my buds started finding them once the date hit 3041, on the markets, they are still few but we do find them now (fyi they cost us 13 000 cbills each). It is possible that the game gates many things on date I don't have data on this or have been able to test it but hey maybe someone will? But hey would it not be cool if the devs actually took the time to have mechs, weapons and modules literally follow the lore when they where reintroduced? If I remember right we start the game around 3015? So getting to when DHS are reintroduced into the markets 3041 is actually quite a long time if you rush the campaign / finish and just restart?
It's very unfortunate that you didn't mention anything about he hero spider mech The SDR-A to be exact . Well hopefully I'll find a video on this mech loadout . I still think your content is great you just happened to miss that mech .
Hy TTB, thanks for this video. Nice to see there is my good old friend, the Misery, still in game. Loved this Mech in MWO. I was just inable to found her in the game. Can you tell me/us where you can get the Mechs or What you have to do to get them? I was unable to find helpful informations about that... Thanks in advance und viele Grüße ;-)
@@TTBprime Thanks for this information. But after completing the campaign there is currently no need for further mechs :D I hope they will make an addon (and we all know what will happen next...hehe)
The moment that walking freezer appeared I couldn't help but do a double take. That thing doesn't deserve so much heat sinks, it's a damn travesty. When you got to the Catapult with 4xSRM6 I couldn't help but think of my CAT-C1 build in Battletech that was designed exactly like that with the express purpose of vomiting missiles onto things in person as opposed to via air mail in the usual Catapult fashion.
I literally flew all over the galaxy trying to blow 300mil cause i felt like the game was getting too easy amd ive found almost all the heros and i gotta say, most of them are so much better than the standards that if you can afford it you should buy them when you see them. The upgrades slots being doubled for heros is aomething you dont know you need until you experience it
Best hero mech though? My vote goes to the Top Dog simply due to how incredible it's precision firepower is. Even with basic tier 1 weapons, you get 50 points of damage to any one section and can fully alpha like... 3 times before you should start to worry so... yeah. It's my go-to even when missions allow for more tonnage. Such an amazing mech. :D

Can anyone recommend a solid mech that allows for strong Auto-Cannon setup? I'm new to the series and I don't really find the lasers all that interresting (a bit meh) - I much prefer the sound and feeling of cannons
@Phallus Dominus I mean that the sound and visuals of lasers are meh... I feel like I'm pissing against the wind when using them. Cannons on the other hand... great sound and I prefer having to lead my target.
Cannon builds are tough to create early on, in light mechs mostly in medium mechs neither. Since cannons weigh a lot. A mix build in a medium with an AC10 or dual AC5 + some lasers should be doable though in a medium. Later on the feeling of PPCs and Gauss rifles though is nice too ... The Hero Gauss Hunchback feels awesome, while most Mechs at that class spray around it just flat out blasts things away, creating a disturbance in the force... Maybe I mixed franchises there..
@@YouTuneIt Alright, I'll give it a look :) I already got a Rifleman mech, but I removed the medium laser from the head. I'm surprised how quickly the rifleman overheats, I can barely get to fire the twin Large lasers before it goes critical. I'm considering removing the lasers entirely and just use dual medium cannons with a buttload of ammo and armor.
Just my personal preferences (I'm not a fan of the burst fire AC's I usually run the single fire unless otherwise noted): Blackjack - Dakka gateway drug. As soon as you see anything listed below sell it. Hunchback - a full lance of HBK-4G's is damn near unbeatable for a 200 ton drop Cataphract Hero (Ilya Muromets) - Throw 3 UAC-5's in this thing and watch enemies pop King Crab - I run the 000 with either dual AC/20 or Dual Gauss and an ERPPC (DHS are a must) Annihilator - 4x LB-10X-SLG is the ultimate Warzone/Defense mech. Fairly useless for long distance trips though. I tend to stay away from Riflemen and Jagermechs, partly because I ended up getting a hold of some of the premiere PPC carriers in the 70-80 ton range (Awesome/Black Knight/Marauder/Warhammer) that I was melting everything with.
Engine heatsinks only require 1 slot regardless of heatsink type (VERY efficient for DHS, obviously). They also only get destroyed if the engine is destroyed.
check on Sarna.net,,, you can find the hero variants there and whether they got an XL/Endo/Ferro. Usually the mechs that are ludicrous expensive have an XL as the Engine is the major factor determining the cost of a mech
Expensive mechs not always have XL or Ligh Engines. The Warhamme Black Widow costs over 15 Million and has the same engine as the 6R. But oh boy is that thing worth its 15 Million, i love to pilot a Black Widow, even more them my Dual Gauss King Crab. You can weaken Enemys in distance with the ERPPCs and shred them to pieces in close combat with thr srms, MPLs and MGs.
I Bought the AMS's and forgot to buy the ammo. Same for my streak SRM's I bought. haven't found any more for sale since so I'm stuck with the systems and no ammo for them. lol *sad face*
I played this game very briefly 2 years ago but I'm still a total noob so please forgive my stupid questions. MOAR!!
it has to have the slot to fit one, just like any other item. AMS fit in their own specific slots, just like lasers, missiles and projectiles.
SHD-GD was my first hero in MWO back then, and i love this thing. Glad to see it in game.. Started Merc5 only yesterday - the quest is on.
from a playthrough I just watched, the AS7-k has an AMS hardpoint ! must hunt this wonder :)
Early on, that Blackjack Arrow is a freaking beast. Pull it up to anything, hold down that machine gun button, and watch them just absolutely melt
The Kintaro GB (ALL THE MISSILES) is epic, but don't let your AI lancemates pilot it if you have expensive equipment in it. The Spider A is amazing for Raids and Assassination missions.
Do you still die on side torso loss of xl engines? Some of those have xls but I don’t see the slots for it
I would also like to know this
I could be wrong, but, since this game has no way to see if its XL I doubt it.
Double heat sinks do show up in the store from time to time but it is extremely rare when they do. Saw them twice and never again lol
Thanks for confirming they actually exist in stores. Do you remember the price?
@@TTBprime 17 or 20k per. Saw them in sectors with 400 ton missions 83-87 difficulty, bought around 15 of them from the store.
@@TTBprime Also depends on the ingame year. As Lost Tech begins spreading after the date of the Helm Memory core discovery. 2038 I believe is when you can start to find Star League tech in stores. Not saying you will, but it can appear after that year.
@@mychaeldark1007 You are right. I am in year 3038 and i just found DHS, UAC5 Ammo, Gauss Ammo, LPL, ERLL, MPLL, Gauss, UAC5, ERPPC, ect in Davion Space with only 12 Difficulty. So it only depends on the year you are in. And after the Helm Memory Core discovery Lost Tech is more Common tech.
In the mid to late 3040s they become almost common and cost well under 10,000 CBills per at industrial hubs.
Omg!! I skipped the urbie k9!! I cant believe I didn't know this aaaagh!! I saw the ultra 5 and thought 3mill was a waste of money for an urbie..... ugh
I thought so as well. That's why I did some German mechgineering on it :P
I did too. I have to fly back and see if it is still there.
Exactly. I read so many comments we suppose to be able to see the details of mechs in market tab.
Since the game does a lot of autosaves, and you can do a save just before you buy. Buy a mech, see what it has. If you don't like it, reload.
So... I see just a few hero mechs have the custom paint that we see in MWO (Centurion YLW, Catapult Jester, Grey Death, Marauder Bounty Hunter, etc....)....... Why is that? Are the rest of the paints out of cannon? are you able to customize the plain looking hero mech to have the same paint as in MWO??
hi all, wanted to ask something about this game I cannot find out;
When starting a mission, is the drop tonnage fixed? Is there something I can do to increase it?
Maybe reputation has an effect on how much tons of mechs you can take into battle?
The drop tonnage is directly based on the difficulty rating of the mission (1 through 100). Higher difficulty means higher drop tonnage cap.
@@whozk ty for explaining
I really need to get my hands on the Murdermets, I'm having flashbacks to MWO before the UAC nerf...
Does anyone have a spreadsheet of this? Also any recommendations to where I might find the Cyclops sleipnir?
I've found Steiner space fairly reliable for Assaults. No Sleipnir so far.
I found cyclops sleipnir in steiner space around marik border. Still looking for the Boars Head now.
@@kingofpoland88 Found a Boar's head in Kurita/Steiner space at level 12 rep

I found another way to get double heat sinks. I did a mission with free sky dipshits or something like that and after completion one of the rewards was a case (12) of double heat sinks. Score!
We did that one. It's a great quest and if you get it, you should totally do it. So worth early on at ~rank 8 or so!
Thanks for the video. It's almost impossible to find the entire default loadout for any of the MW5 mechs online.
I would of prefered they added the ability to customise from MWO into this hopefully modders fix it :)
Love it.
@@Shypa you mean the direstar
Wubmaster is still doable.
Doesn't matter apparently.
@@TTBprime so an XL engine is a pure upgrade with no drawbacks. Swell.
HAHA the first Hero-Mech i saw was the K9. I thought UAC5 is probably Lostech...so 2.8mil seemed cheap AND i want to gather ALL Hero Mechs i come across....so instant buy ^^
Thanks man you Save me the hassle of hunting down double heat sinks for an atlas
Why do so many of these have pulse lasers? Not a fan of disco death mode
thank you for this vid, i use it so much to see if im getting a good hero mech or trash just got an aws-pb and am so ready to use it
There's a special quest (high value or whatever its called) that gives 10 doubles, and one that gives and AMS.
Where and for whom? If you remember, that is :)
@@bojanjovanovic6716 the 10 doubles comes from a steiner area, but its a faction against steiner and the AMS i think is all the way at the bottom of the map in the purple area.
@@lyrebirdfurniture522 Thank you bro! Will check it tonight :)
It is the high value quest where you fight for the Free Skye Movement. You can choose to either fight for them or against them. When you fight for the FSM, you get 10 DHS as a reward. (it is near Terra, left of it).
The GoldenBoy is ridiculous. When you can core a mech twice your tonnage in TWO alpha strikes, that's just nutty.
Even more ridiculous if you think the total cbills payment you can suffer by an arm or a side torso explosion...
*ESC* -> *Restart Mission*
@@Tawleyn true, i think about a similar build indeed.
Now i need to found a GB 🙄
Its all about the firepower. I love piloting a commando and run around shooting missiles like an angry midget.
Love videos man! How u change the engines or that a mod lol.
Wait why do some unique mechs have unique skins like the yen lo wang while others do not?
The Yen-Lo-Wang color scheme pattern are unique to this varient of the Centurion. The simple answer, it would not be that variant without the pattern as it is part of its lore.
@@Belgereth75 I forget how MWO does things. But, some special mechs did not come with custom paints but the other often hero mechs do. I think some of these are special variants not just hero. Could be wrong.
Correct, some special variants are out there in MWO and they had custom patterns as well.
@@TTBprime Oh cool! Thanks again!!!
Rare mech are just standard mech in pristine condition. Nothing special about them.
Yeah but what area does that Urbie K-9 show up to buy? I want that piñata.
Random spawns. Look for the hero mech logo on industrial hub planets.
Found mine in Davion Space. I just bought it because it's a Hero mech and I am collecting all the Hero mechs. About freaked as it also gave me my first DH. I didn't even realize I had them as I just dumped it into Cold storage after I bought it. lol
Thanks TTB! Great video. I know you can’t provide everything but if you could explain when and where to acquire all these mechs…Bitte Schon!
Great video my dude! I was looking to see if they had the star league era Highlander and they do!😁 I super excited now!👍
I just got a dragon you made me happy with this liked and subbed
I bought a rare medium 55ton yesterday it had 2 uac5 a small laser and I want to say 1 or 2 doubles in it. It was 9mil and I just bought it to fluff my number as I only have 3 pilots and 4 mechs which was making multiple missions a bit tough not sure if more rare mechs will have them or not. Also the planet is down and left of the one that sells the urbie with all the doubles in it.
thanks for doing this!
You're welcome!
hello TTB
DHS hunt is one thing but also you should do compareson to normal mechs to see where you have endo or ff. good example here are hero rifleman's there is 2 of them and just one of them have endo and it makes huge difference in fits.
this is a lot of trouble for DHS, you can find them all over the place in the market once you get high enough rep
Can i get the 150tone kingcrab in campaign?
Thanks TTB! Much appreciated video!
Where do I find Victor Dragon Slayer?
I think it might be a lategame main campaign reward.

Wow there is a fuck ton of these. I’m all in on learning this game right now. Loving it
Yes tell me more about this game.
I just visited like 10 systems amd the only 2 that had heirs had the centerion amd the wolverine, which I'm gonna get cause I need some doubles bad
Hy TTB,
thanks for this video.
Fully randomized. Higher tonnage mechs are available in areas with higher level missions.
@@TTBprime Thanks for this information. But after completing the campaign there is currently no need for further mechs :D I hope they will make an addon (and we all know what will happen next...hehe)
Have I missed a bunch of lore or some shit over the years? What happened to Clan Mechs? Will they ever add them? X-Pulse lasers?
Clan invasion is 3049
So 3015 is nearly 3 decades early
great vid idea! thx ^^
How do you get hero mechs
i bought a regular crab and i swear it had doubles it was a CRB-27B
Mind you TTB is speaking from MW5 online and not the XBOX version
Do these hero mechs "respawn" after you sold them?
They randomly appear. And yes, you can get multiples of the same hero mech. My brother laughed at me when I said that I have 3 K9s. I am still aiming for a full company of K9s!
anybody know where to find the Catapult BB and Catapult J?
There are nos specific areas whrer you can find specific Mechs, it is mostly random.

@@YouTuneIt Alright, I'll give it a look :)
I already got a Rifleman mech, but I removed the medium laser from the head. I'm surprised how quickly the rifleman overheats, I can barely get to fire the twin Large lasers before it goes critical.
I'm considering removing the lasers entirely and just use dual medium cannons with a buttload of ammo and armor.
Just my personal preferences (I'm not a fan of the burst fire AC's I usually run the single fire unless otherwise noted):
Blackjack - Dakka gateway drug. As soon as you see anything listed below sell it.
Hunchback - a full lance of HBK-4G's is damn near unbeatable for a 200 ton drop
Cataphract Hero (Ilya Muromets) - Throw 3 UAC-5's in this thing and watch enemies pop
King Crab - I run the 000 with either dual AC/20 or Dual Gauss and an ERPPC (DHS are a must)
Annihilator - 4x LB-10X-SLG is the ultimate Warzone/Defense mech.
@@joemacafee7655 Cheers m8...

Has anyone bought a boars head I'm not sure if it's worth the 40 million over buying another atlas D ???
How does the engine heatsink work?
@@FreakShootA Black widow has an XL 280, 6R has a standard 280
OK didn't know that. But then xl engine mechs definitely survive loosing both side torsos.
