I had given this thought as well, to air rate. And, when I put my finger in that I was compacting the soil and getting dirt under my finger nail. So good to know someone else is on the same page as me. Thank you
I can't thank you enough for this video. I have a lucky bamboo plant that seemed to be constantly dying. It never occurred to me to check the soil, but after watching this video I checked -- and it definitely was pooling water on the surface. As soon as I aerated the soil, I noted the leaves started improving almost instantly. I suspect the roots were simply not getting enough water or oxygen. The plant isn't fully back to its normal health yet, but it's getting there! Thank you for sharing this tip!
Oh my God thank you so much this is a topic I haven't seen talked about ans my plant pilea was doing amazing and it started having yellow leaves and several dying from the bottom babies and I noticed about 2 or 3 weeks ago that the soil hardened
My peace lily has been dropping and I water normally w indirect light, I noticed the soil was soaking wet almost a week after I watered. Hopefully this helps !❤
Hi my pothos plant is struggling (yellow leaves) and I know it’s usually due to over/under watering but I noticed that the soil is super tight so I tried to aerate it with the chopstick. Should I consider repotting it? And how long should I wait to water it? The soil is super dry but I want to give the roots a chance to breathe (I think?)
Thanks for the tips, very useful for a beginner like myself. Can you please make a video about soil replenishment, like how often it should be, and the reason why we need to do it.
Totally depends on the amount of aeration you have in your soil to begin with. Unless you are noticing compaction in your soil it is not entirely necessary. If you are noticing that the soil does not allow water to flow through it and rather flows through the sides of the pot then I would aerate your soil.
Absolutely! Begonias are (sub)tropical plants that prefer moist soil, but as long as your soil is not draining too quickly, it's always a great idea to aerate your soil.
Carrie Lange meh maybe once a month or so. If you let your plant get bone dry id recommend doing it then. You’ll be able to tell when the soil gets too compacted
The amount of times I overwatered my cannabis plants and this technique works every time to give the roots air
Do this apply to net pots?
Dealing w this right now. First time over watering in my whole 4 years of popping beans. Your comment gives me hope

I think this is the key to some of my plant losses. I’ve noticed several plants I have dirt is so compacted and hard.
Your voice is so calming. Thank you for this tip I need to do this to my plants! ❤️
I literally love this topic
This definitely works. I currently use this method. Thanks for the share.
I love your wall design in the background

Short and sweet. Very helpful. Thanks!

I've been panicking because I used potting soil that can also be used for outside and it was quite moist. This is an awesome method thank youu!

Are you referring to replenishing nutrients in the soil i.e. fertilize, or doing things like topdressing with more soil? Glad you enjoyed the video!
How do u aerate my mint pot without stressing the roots?
Good video! Thanks
Have you ever used a small air pump, like from a fish tank and stick the hose up in the soil through a drain hole to oxygenate to roots?
Why do roots need oxygen?
Great video thank you
It´s easier to uce long ice picks!
Thank you so much! I just found you. Are you coming back?
Thanks for the tips!
No problem!
This video is fantastic!! Very well done, thank you! 🤗
how often do you aerate your plants?
Not very often. Only when I water the plant and realize the water isn’t permeating through the soil effectively e.g. the water sits on top of the soil
gotcha.. thanks
Great tips! Haha I alway use my chopsticks from take out.
I have soo many of them 🙈
What about when the soil is so hard you can't even stick anything in there ?
Repot the plant with 60/40 perlite and pete moss

How often should I aerate my indoor plants soil with chopsticks? Weekly? Monthly? Yearly?

I enjoy your insights. May we please chat on Facebook messenger about plants?your name there?
Can you do the same thing on begonias?
Absolutely! Begonias are (sub)tropical plants that prefer moist soil, but as long as your soil is not draining too quickly, it's always a great idea to aerate your soil.

When you have to write a 10,000 words essay… just stop wasting time with repeating words in back to back sentences!
Why such a wooden voice and expression? Is this nervousness?
Probably! I know I have that problem sometimes when making videos.
Its great I info here though :)
