  • I have been practicing Dragon style since I was a boy, half a century ago. However, often in different martial arts there are similar concepts, but in the case of Philippine Sombrada and Dragon Style there are even the same techniques. This meant that thirty two years ago, when I first studied Philippine martial arts, I found some techniques very familiar and natural.

    In HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) the "PELL" a post used for striking usually without touching it (for control) or very light touching, is frequently used. Because of the cutting capabilities of the sword (capabilities tested in cutting, nowadays mostly water bottles 😊) striking hard is secondary to edge alignment and control. Nice to see 👀 the commonality of use 🤔 that extends to applications with no weapons, in many oriental martial arts Cheers

      Yes it is important. Power is only one aspect of the technique, there are also other skills to cultivate and even in the West this was well understood.

    Does dragon style contain lots of double hand movements?

    • @DanteBasili
      @DanteBasili  4 месяца назад +2

      Yes, but not in full style. The double hand is almost absent in 天路拳 Tian Lu Quan while it is very present in 八门拳 Ba Men Quan. I had never noticed it before. Thanks for the question.

    Otro exquisito trabajo.
    Sifu Dante, es posible que en los movimientos del estilo dragón que Ud. nos mostró haya trabajo de luxaciones y/o derribos???
    Creo interpretar ésa intención.
    Por favor, corrijame si me equivoco.
    Muchas gracias 🙏

      Sí, la segunda técnica que muestro, del estilo dragón, también es un derribo característico, llamado en la lucha tradicional Shou Biezi, y en Xing Yi se utiliza como llave articular.
      Yes Oscar, the second technique I show, of the dragon style, is also a characteristic take down, called in traditional wrestling Shou Biezi, and in Xing Yi it is used as a joint lock

    Ciao Dante...Which version of the cat stance should I use in the dragon style? as in Japanese karate? or like a praying mantis? (only the fingertips touch the floor, and the knee is turned slightly inward, covering the groin)🤔. In the video I see two versions. The dragon uses two versions?

    • @DanteBasili
      @DanteBasili  4 месяца назад +1

      Yes Nicola, both types of Xu Bu, depending on the Taolu performed, but the version similar to the Karate one is the most frequent. Interesting 🙏🏽

      In the case of these two methods (Sombrada and Dragon) there is a great similarity, despite the cultural and geographical distance.
