Anybody else start tearing up when you hear certain notes or combinations of notes in music? I don't get how they don't start crying as they play these notes! So beautiful
To me it is John Williams greatest masterpiece. It's most unique and special one. How can a human being be filled with so much love and pure and tangible emotions?
2006 oscar was really tight. it seems oscar just give each movies at least 3 win. memoirs of a geisha 3 win brokeback mountain 4 win king kong 3 win pride and prejudice 0 win ;( honestly we know memoirs of a geisha should have had 6 win
I'd consider this score at least half of the movie's beauty. In certain scenes you can almost feel the silk brushing against the floor when the geisha dance. John is one of very few people who can feel the music through, like red wine through the water.
It's a whole different ball game. When you have alot of directors going to John Williams for him to make the music even for Star wars The thinks about But everything changes when John Williams actually wants to score your film. This is the only movie I've heard Williams say he actually wanted to do
he captures the film so well and with such beauty. His music speaks the story, its like they are one, they ARE one. he is so brilliant at this. I could just keep going on. I cannot truly speak what my heart feels about the music for this movie, the soundtrack, and the book. they are all SO brilliant and BEAUTIFUL. I wish I could have been a part of any part of this story and its production
YOU AIN'T NEVER LIED!!!! He's the most famous and successful movie score composer of all time, and that's a statistical fact. He is my favorite composer...period.
The director Rob Marshall is probably one of the smartest directors in the industry in that he acknowledges John is a master of his craft. "If John wants to score, I will let him". Now hopefully Abrams does this with Star Wars.
"She paints her face to hide her face. Her eyes like deep water. It is not for Geisha to want. It is not for Geisha to feel. Geisha is an artist of the floating world. She dances. She sings. She entertains you, whatever you want. The rest is shadows. The rest is secret."
WIlliam's best score so far. His other tunes are great of course but the ones in Memoirs of a Geisha are just absolutely beautiful. Made him one of my favorite composers.
oh the music is so beautiful in the film in fact I have the soundtrack in my mp3 its just every time I listen to it it gives me so much inspiration its like a story being told to the music I love the chairmans music the best its so wonderful man I cant stop gushing about lol its just splendid john williams did a terrific job and everyone on that staff as well
John Williams is the most versatile composer ever! He composes with a japanese feeling so authentic that I have to check his wardrobe for katanas... And when Itzahk Perlman, über-violinist, and Yo-Yo Ma, über-cellist, joins him... There are no words, my friends... no words... I've gotto see the movie!
Such a gorgeous score.. I remember when it got the OST, that it was in my cd player in my car on loop over a week. And I drive alot! Excellent Excellent
A few thoughts about this: very few of us get to watch a movie without any of its music which is what film composers do routinely. Can't imagine what this must be like (tho eating a cake with only half its ingredients springs to mind). The gift of JW - and all other great composers of film music - is to magically encapsulate the essence of a movie within seconds without the audience being consciously aware of it. It follows that for me Memoirs of a Geisha and AI are 2 of JW's greatest scores. I'd also like to mention Oliver Stone's JFK where, again, right from the very outset JW's music manages somehow to inform the audience about the very dark and murky nature of the film they're about to watch. (John Barrie's Midnight Cowboy and Nino Rota's Godfather do the same thing).
oh, I'd love to go for his concert, it's my dream:) but i live in Poland, so you know.. he's genius. congrats for "memories of a geisha" and "Shindler's list". it's amazing
Usually orchestral players are actually contracted individually, though composers generally like to work with the same group of people again and again. In Williams' case he often gets players from the LSO when he isn't recording in LA
All the biggest movies of our time, Star Wars Saga, Superman, ET, The Cowboys, The Indiana Jones series etc, Not to mention the music for the last 3 Olympics in the US were scored by this man. And he never won an Oscar
whatever people may think of rob marshall and his abilities as a director, it cannot be denied that he certainly knows how to get the best out of his actors and creative collaborators. i mean, his three musketeers (colleen atwood, dion beebe, and john myhre) all own their combined 5 oscars and 2 emmys to rob. under rob's guidence, john wrote one of his best scores in recent years with this film. he's directed 5 actors to oscar nominated performances (4 on his first feature film alone)
I do believe Danny Elfman is a great composer and I love his melodies A LOT! But John Williams is superior in that he does his own orchestrations and conducting. As a composer, I wouldn't want it any other way unless time retrained that leisure. I couldn't chose between the 2 though.
I wouldn't sweat it... the man has 5 oscars under his belt. Fiddler on the Roof (1971) Jaws (1975) Star Wars (1977) E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982) Schindler's List (1993)
i love this, john williams is so great and Perlman did an absolutely beautiful job. yo-yo ma is really really great too, but is it just me or but did the poor guy look almost scared. well love him anyway.
who cares? all his music is great and if there are similarities from one score to another, it's alright because i have yet to hear bad material come from John Williams. John Williams is the man..
Williams is a living Genius and a living legend. The best with Herrmann and Korngold. But I like another living composers (and dead too) like Poledouris, Newman and Newton Howard. Sountracks are the future of "classical music".
It is very difficult to compare music by different composers. Sometimes music doesn´t need to be complex to express complex feelings and Santaolalla does simple things very well. Sometimes a movie requires that. SImplicity. Music should help the story to be told, which is very difficult to achieve, and both scores get to the point. But that said, Williams is a true master. Maybe all-time´s best and should have won the Oscar. I also love Goldsmith.
Anybody else start tearing up when you hear certain notes or combinations of notes in music?
I don't get how they don't start crying as they play these notes! So beautiful
I teared up. I thought who the fxxx wrote the music. And...well..John Williams.
For me it's "The chairman's waltz". It's so beautiful.
Yes absolutely
to have John Williams, Itzak Perlman, and Yo Yo Ma working together is the greatest thing you can get for a movie!
Three gods under one roof. RIP ~ Williams and Perlman.
13 years ago was posted this comment and I’m crying of listening this melody 🎶
@@tetianafilyarchuk2838 and this soundtrack still stands as one of my favorites! I was 19 when this movie came out 😍😍
@@pattys8048 John Williams and Perlman are Still Alive.
John Williams is a genius and look no further than the OST of this movie. It's exemplary and intimate. Still mint fresh to this day.
one of my favorite soundtracks of all time easily I never skip tracks and it's on repeat always
Same to me
The music from this movie is GORGEOUS!!!!!
To me it is John Williams greatest masterpiece. It's most unique and special one. How can a human being be filled with so much love and pure and tangible emotions?
yea it shouldve won an academy award it was one of the most brilliant movies and books ive ever read
2006 oscar was really tight. it seems oscar just give each movies at least 3 win.
memoirs of a geisha 3 win
brokeback mountain 4 win
king kong 3 win
pride and prejudice 0 win ;(
honestly we know memoirs of a geisha should have had 6 win
I dare say that John Williams is the best living composer in the world. today. Scores are meant to fit the screen but JW goes well beyond that.
💯
The music is simply one of the most beautiful scores ever ! John Williams is a genius !!!!!
Can't thank him enough for asking to do the scores for this film. So beautiful.
I'd consider this score at least half of the movie's beauty. In certain scenes you can almost feel the silk brushing against the floor when the geisha dance. John is one of very few people who can feel the music through, like red wine through the water.
My favorite John Williams score.. and that's saying something!
someone finally recognizes the cello.
serisouly, I love it so much and it sounds so amazing here.
john williams is truely a hero.
The amount of talent that went into it and how beautiful this soundtrack is, just spectacular.
The music is beyond all meanings of divine.....breathtakingly exquisite.....
This IS FANTASTIC! MESMERIZED. HOW HE CAPTURED THE ESSENCE OF CLASSICAL JAPANESE MUSIC IS BEYOND ME.
By all means, John Williams's work with this soundtrack makes it one of the all-time crown jewels of movie music.
The classic movie and soundtrack are magnificent and still fantastic after all these years.❤❤😊😊
this is the most wonderful sountrack - you can totally feel the characters in the music
John Williams rocks! he totally out did himself on this score. Its fantastic
I belive its his best yet. It is very emotional and he kept to the strings more gently more than I ever saw him do.
I enjoyed seeing my 2 favorite string players working together. Mr. Pearlman & Yo-Yo Ma. 👍😁👍😁👍😁
It's a whole different ball game.
When you have alot of directors going to John Williams for him to make the music even for Star wars The thinks about

Daniel Salazar he asked to do the film adaptation of The Book Thief as well
@@cinemascore-along he loved his book
this whole movie, score, everything gives me chills :) so beautiful
I get goose bumps each time i hear the music of this song i love it

Itzhak Perklman + Yo-yo Ma + John Williams = Brilliant feel for music!!!
Forever will love this score. Magical.
this movies music is just so great. I can't stop listening and plus the movie is great.
YOU AIN'T NEVER LIED!!!! He's the most famous and successful movie score composer of all time, and that's a statistical fact. He is my favorite composer...period.
Brilliant Brilliant Brilliant! Masters of art and music composition. ❤️
Excellent piece to describe the film's music! Williams, Yo-Yo Ma and Perlman made an outstanding job in this clip!
Williams' best score in over 20 years for a film not directed by Steven Spielberg, and one of his 15 best overall.
It is amazing that the music was written after the movie was recorded. Especially those dancing scenes!
I love this soundtrack so much. Truly amazing: John Williams, Yo-Yo Ma AND Itzahk Perlman all performing in ONE score!!! *faint*
What is even more incredible is how he composes such a beatiful main theme using only the white keys of the piano!
The director Rob Marshall is probably one of the smartest directors in the industry in that he acknowledges John is a master of his craft. "If John wants to score, I will let him". Now hopefully Abrams does this with Star Wars.
I would faint if I was in the same room as John Williams.
love watching and hearing how masters like mr williams work their magic. thanks for throwing this up on utube.
Gave me chills! Cello!!! and that violin! I absolutely love this
"She paints her face to hide her face. Her eyes like deep water. It is not for Geisha to want. It is not for Geisha to feel.

The most beautiful music ever... Breathtaking. It makes my heart beat faster.
The score was better than the movie to be honest
Thank you for sharing your video. 🌷🌿🌷
John just is the most amazing person in the whole world
This movie is so underrated
I love the book, music and movie. It has to be one of my favorite scores of all time!
This score transformed the movie. Music makes it visceral and so real. If it was anyone else who did this score, it just wouldnt feel the same
there's always something amazing and inspirational about watching genius (or geniuses) at work.
the whole album is great, very touching and beautiful
one of the best scores i've ever heard.
wow this is amazing. That violin solo was just beautiful.

omg, these men are geniuses.
what an effin legend...he knows it
Very firmly agreed about the Oscars. The fact that Santaolalla won AGAIN the next year has completely destroyed my faith in that organization.
Just a genius...amazing
i want john williams to compose my life
All the biggest movies of our time, Star Wars Saga, Superman, ET, The Cowboys, The Indiana Jones series etc, Not to mention the music for the last 3 Olympics in the US were scored by this man.
And he never won an Oscar
yo yo ma rules. itzhak perlman is amazing with yo yo ma, the chairman's waltz is the best. this is one of my fave movies/scores.
