  • Part 1 of 'how to remove the turbo and exhaust manifold of a T30 Xtrail DCi.
Because the video was so long, I've broken it down into thirteen parts - simply titled 'Part 1, 2, 3 and so on up to 13.
I'm aiming these videos to viewers who are either new to T30 Xtrail ownership or thinking of buying one...or maybe you're just interested in engines and turbos.
Apologies for the wind noise - I needed to get the car sorted as quickly as I could as there were a couple of big storms hitting the UK just before filming and I didn't have time to faff around with a lavalier mic while working in and under the car. These are real world repair videos filmed on the driveway.

Hi, when you say 'plugs' do you mean spark plugs or glow plugs?

I allowed a day because there are other components to remove even before the exhaust manifold nuts can be accessed. You may find the exhaust downpipe/diesel catalyst heatshield retaining bolts have rusted so that might slow up the procedure. I was lucky with the exhaust nuts because they didn't seize up however the turbo CHRA retaining bolts on the housing did put up a fight. I had to order new bolt set which wasn't expensive.

Hi. Any ideas where the boost solonoid is on an early T30 2.2 diesel sport ? 2003 to be exact.

Hi, if yours is the D.i version then it has an internally wastegated turbo - probably an IHI so it won't have a separate boost pressure sensor or turbo actuator solenoid. If turbo isn't boosting need to check for intercooler leaks, split or loose intercooler hoses, split waste gate hose on turbo, stuck EGR valve. They can and will suffer oily carbon buildup which can cause them to seize up. With regards to turbo itself, you can check for wear by removing turbo inlet pipe and seeing if compressor wheel is rattling around, damaged, seized or full of oil - which indicates worn turbo seal and bearing.

@@TK42138 Thank you. Seems pretty straight forward.

Will this motor fit in a 2001 Sentra transmission

Probably not since the DCi engine in the T30 is a YD22 diesel lump and as far as I know, no 5th Gen Sentra had this diesel engine. Having said that, the 2.5 petrol QR25 unit is similar overall size to the YD22 but it would take a lot of work to make it fit.
