I swear I have seen the outline of this house in the latest indie horror games. Once more though, you are doing an incredible job in playing this. Thank you for braving these.
I completely agree with you, Chris. As you said, not terrible in the slightest (especially for a game made by a solo dev), but also so, so generic. The main problem is that the twist/reveal is telegraphed way too soon, imo : main character's wife died in an accident, he finds messages like "this isn't real" and "wake up", then that article around the 32min mark saying "woman died in a car accident and husband in a coma" and I thought : "well that's him and this is all a coma dream, the end". So that made the remaining 40 minutes a bit less engaging for me, tbh ^^ Also, that AI voice was just sad. I understand budget constrains, but it was so distracting how emotionless it was in the face all the crazy shit happening to the main character.
This game felt like a weird grab bag of elements. It felt more like trying to locate items or solve simple problems in a house in the middle of the woods, vague backstory, and then randomly, there's Mothman. There were certain elements that I expected to play more of a part, like the big storm they talked up in the beginning. Then there was the slow pace of the game mixed with the lifeless "voice acting" thag was the nail in the coffin for me. And what exactly was the point of going into the forest behind the house, except to get chased by random monsters that you only see for a few seconds?? I feel like it would be really cool to see a Mothman horror game, but this made him seem like an afterthought that was tacked on.
I kept thinking of Max Payne after you mentioned him. The guy zooms around like it's an old FPS and the torch is a pistol. Just needs the bullet time. It's actually not bad though and some of the jump scares are pretty good even if a lot of them are lol moments. Nice detail and interactivity in the house but the game doesn't know how to build tension. It's more like a to-do list that has you rushing around completing tasks with jump scares thrown in.

did anyone alive today see CJU play Lorelai? or the cat lady? sally face? all these years later and i am still waiting on the next one of that ilk. it will happen one day... perhaps i will even be alive to see it 😏
I remember them. CJU back in the day used play a good mix of games, but recently they all seem to be these rather terrible indie games with the same gimmicks, graphics, plots, etc, or they're brief demos that he never follows up on. I mean, ""Layers of Fear 3" has been out for months now and considering how much he liked the previous games it's surprising he hasn't even acknowledged it.
Lol. I’d have been out of that entire area before ever setting foot on its ground. The mold and probably asbestos alone is a hard nope. I remember thinking that thing is & has nested in that house already so boarding up windows and what have you does nothing. The voice acting though, I think I’d rather chill with the moth man.
The door in the upstairs bathroom, you had to close it to get into the cupboard behind the door, but when you left the bathroom, the door swung out into the hall!
You can tell the developers were heavily influenced by Pineview Drive, the house getting bigger as you go, the lights switch set up/flashlight with batteries, the sound effects, and jumping scares are very reminiscent.
You know, more than a bit disappointed. Despite the mentions of Mothman, it doesn't feel as though that really did anything. It was just another haunted house walking simulator, with instructions and story both a little bit unclear. You can almost see what it *wants* to be, but it doesn't... really get there. Almost makes it worse in some ways for me - I would have loved a Mothman game! But I didn't really get it. Still, sometimes the first step to making something good is making something *not* good first. After all, I *could* sort of see what the dev was going for. If they polish their skills and keep at it, that could lead to something great.
Why do game devs still think in 2023 that flashlights that require batteries is a good thing? Just stop doing that already. Also, that house layout looks awfully familiar. Can't recall at the moment in which game I saw that house before.
It's realistic , especially if you have a cheap flashlight. But yeah , I always applaud devs that think out side the box and either have other options besides flashlight and / or long lasting batteries , alternative light sources , etc.
@@uros.u.novakovicI'm talking about them needing batteries in the 1st place not how often they need to be changed but cheap / bad ones do seem to need new batteries a lot. Most indie games have crappy FL ( imo because other devs are dumb and think dark = scary and having to worry about crappy FL helps with suspense but ...no , it just annoys / frustrates players , they are kind of right but wrong at the same time about dark = scary...know what I mean? And have you never had a cheap FL? Genuinely curious , not trying to argue. )
Your comment was about batteries in general, not how long this games takes before they burn out. So yes, batteries are realistic and should stay. @@uros.u.novakovic
Agree with the final sentiment, game is very average, mid. There's elements of survival horror, RE sort, the puzzles were fine but I can't really pin why the flashlight mechanic is there. It's built up then suddenly taken away near the end for no real reason other than making it a bit harder. There's an understanding what the genre has but the execution is lacking. Ai VA didn't help there was emotion when it was needed. Mothman was the draw and it was just kinda...there, basic lore given but could've been replaced with any sort of spooky creature like the grim reaper or something.
Thank you for the Video. Number one thing That is very crucial that this game needs fixing is the brightness of the Lamp.. Like my eyes hurt and it is not even half of the video..Couldnt see much ogf the game coz of it. Looks interesting though. Hope the Dev will keep working on it and polish it up.. GG
Could they have picked anything more docile and harmless than a moth? And since when do they have talons?! At least if it'd been a brown tail, it might have made the main character itchy....?
The most amusing thing in game is the protagonist who know that a door is "locked from the other side". I know it's a game mechanic, but, How can you possibly know that!
Having great visuals means nothing if you have poor writing. It's such a shame this game didn't have a better script or it could've been quite good. Also, I seem to recall that statistically, a chair falls on someone every 8(?) minutes or so. This seems to just about match the frequency of chairs falling in the game. Coincidence?
You passed another note just be on he body in the grave in back you turn it was on head stone and yet your follower that joined you did not inform you whatever.
I think you were supposed to put the ring on that hand popping out of the mirror in the basement... you missed a journal page in the graveyard, might have been a clue...
Only 40 minutes in and all I can say is: top notch graphics and cheap and cheesy jumpscares. Nice game, though... But the sandman is calling me to go into the dream world... 😴😃

you can glean no more from the shinn. and then mere minutes later: ROAR! said nothing and no one apparently. if this is not love, then there is no logic involved in me watching these videos for the past however many embarrassingly many years. you would have to reach through the screen and smack me with an open palm for me NOT to thumbs up this.. how to define the days (or WEEKS?!?) i have spent watching these.. my GOD, its full of stars??? do i need help? do i need to help others??
The earlier you are to a YT video upload, the longer you have to wait for it to fully upload properly. Sound issues, resolution bugs, other issues. RUclips is only around 20 years old, it's understandable they wouldn't have ironed out their systems yet.
th issue is that the game goes for psychological horror but would have been far better as a monster chase type game. Secure the house and fight off the Mothman. Also the AI voice acting did nothing for the game. The House exploration was decent and could have been so much more.
Well, that was underwhelming. There are SO MANY things I could say but no-one wants to read a rant. But I will just point out that the game keeps mentioning claw marks and feathers. Since when have moths had either claws or feathers?

The door in the upstairs bathroom, you had to close it to get into the cupboard behind the door, but when you left the bathroom, the door swung out into the hall!
I agree with you 100%! I did enjoy the monsters chasing you in the woods part.😁👍
If they polish their skills and keep at it, that could lead to something great.
that was good loved it it was confusing for awhile
You youngings dont know how fresh uploads work?
I like how the random laughs were just the boo sounds from Mario
Why do game devs still think in 2023 that flashlights that require batteries is a good thing? Just stop doing that already.
Also, that house layout looks awfully familiar. Can't recall at the moment in which game I saw that house before.
It's realistic , especially if you have a cheap flashlight. But yeah , I always applaud devs that think out side the box and either have other options besides flashlight and / or long lasting batteries , alternative light sources , etc.
@@kalezuki9231 realistic? What flashlight requires battery swap every 30 seconds?
@@uros.u.novakovicI'm talking about them needing batteries in the 1st place not how often they need to be changed but cheap / bad ones do seem to need new batteries a lot. Most indie games have crappy FL ( imo because other devs are dumb and think dark = scary and having to worry about crappy FL helps with suspense but ...no , it just annoys / frustrates players , they are kind of right but wrong at the same time about dark = scary...know what I mean? And have you never had a cheap FL? Genuinely curious , not trying to argue. )
I've seen that house in other games.
Your comment was about batteries in general, not how long this games takes before they burn out. So yes, batteries are realistic and should stay. @@uros.u.novakovic
Maybe I'm weird but all my batteries are in the same drawer at my house also I keep the spare fuses on top of the fuse box.
At least if it'd been a brown tail, it might have made the main character itchy....?
my door jams are always connected to my electric. every time i blow a fuse, doors lock and cease for function from "this side" right Chris? 😉
The wedding ring could’ve probably gone on the hand coming out of the mirror in the basement!!!
Is there no sound or is something wrong w my phone😮
It's something with the RUclips app. Chromecast works fine but I can't hear it on my phone.
I upped the quality to 1050 and now it works yeeey
@@justinspeck1186thanks it's working now❤
Your phone
@@mahmoudalmarzooqi9396oh wait you fixed it yay!!
Anyone having sound issues, closing the video, and just reopening it seemed to work for me.
The most amusing thing in game is the protagonist who know that a door is "locked from the other side". I know it's a game mechanic, but, How can you possibly know that!
There should be an achievement of opening every damn drawer and cupboard in the house.
Audio is missing? Noooo!!!!
Mothman is friend. Indrid Cold would never harm us.
I cant stop it...10 Batterie man...L.O.L
You passed another note just be on he body in the grave in back you turn it was on head stone and yet your follower that joined you did not inform you whatever.
I think the wedding ring was supposed to go on your wife’s hand in the mirror of the basement!
Damn where's the audio?😏
21:51, that's a Boo from Super Mario 64!
This vid was great Chris
I like the matching shirt and background.
23:15 Well I wanted to be a Paladin!
my daughter has a pet plank as well.
55:10, that's the year i was born LOL
Video isnt allowing HD. Only allows 360p. On PC.
UPDATE: HD is working now.
Maybe the wedding ring can be placed on the hand coming out of the mirror in the second basement, leading to the bad ending (dying in coma)?
Love your videos ❤
Like Sanitarium. Everything represented a struggle for life.
That’s like the Redrose house from Stephen King. My word how big is that dang house? Lol
Had to tell you man... Penumbra: Prisoner of Fate Chapter 1 is officially out, and I CAN NOT WAIT for you to play it!
I have audio but only 360p :/
Thanks for sharing your are the best!
Alan Wake vibes at the beginning there
I think you were supposed to put the ring on that hand popping out of the mirror in the basement... you missed a journal page in the graveyard, might have been a clue...
Urgh the AI voice is like nails down a chalkboard
No way the mothman took the audio
Ey the games actually pretty good!!
How did the protagonist prepare spaghettis with meatballs when there's no cooking facility in the shack?
Only 40 minutes in and all I can say is: top notch graphics and cheap and cheesy jumpscares. Nice game, though... But the sandman is calling me to go into the dream world... 😴😃
Hi Chris 👋👋❤❤😊
A little confusing, but not bad of a game good job 👍
Enjoyable playthrough.
Yes . This is a standard size home in the country. I loved everything about it . Good memories unfolded. The ceilings were too low . And of course Chis and his Awesome commentary And sence of humor makes it all good.
I’m sorry you couldn’t be a ten battery man. They did you dirty.
you can glean no more from the shinn. and then mere minutes later: ROAR! said nothing and no one apparently. if this is not love, then there is no logic involved in me watching these videos for the past however many embarrassingly many years. you would have to reach through the screen and smack me with an open palm for me NOT to thumbs up this.. how to define the days (or WEEKS?!?) i have spent watching these.. my GOD, its full of stars??? do i need help? do i need to help others??
Oh wow. That's the year my father was born.
World's quietest let's play. I don't hear anything I'm sure it's not on my side?
The earlier you are to a YT video upload, the longer you have to wait for it to fully upload properly. Sound issues, resolution bugs, other issues. RUclips is only around 20 years old, it's understandable they wouldn't have ironed out their systems yet.
@@Blisterdude123 I never would have guessed that, since its never happened before, my entire time on the pootubez. Thanks for the explanation!
My audio is working now. Yay!
th issue is that the game goes for psychological horror but would have been far better as a monster chase type game. Secure the house and fight off the Mothman. Also the AI voice acting did nothing for the game. The House exploration was decent and could have been so much more.
I wanted to put the ring on the hand in the basement!
Maybe the ring could have gone on the hand in the basement?
Well, that was underwhelming. There are SO MANY things I could say but no-one wants to read a rant. But I will just point out that the game keeps mentioning claw marks and feathers. Since when have moths had either claws or feathers?
