    Those brakes are a copy of Curves which were a pretty sweet 90s cantilever brake. I had some on an old Kona and loved them.

    Nice build ! I would be using anti seize, or copper grease on those bb threads and quil stem. Bearing grease will dry out if its not kept moving and if left to long will actually make Removal more difficult in the future

      @@2NDLIFEBIKESsweet sounds good, looking forward to it 😁 I’ve had one of those chains too, the anti rust ones. I think it’s painted with something? Used one for a while and it worked well, just looked weird 😅
      Watching this on Christmas Day before all the cooking etc, have a good one mate!

    I saw that you were struggling with corrded parts on that hard rock a 50/50 by volume mix of ATF to acetone is an excellent rust buster

    I would not grease up the square tapers on the BB unit, will draw up the crank too far and be difficult to extract, believe me, ASK ME HOW I KNOW. Years of getting my hands dirty as a bike mech. :)

      Cruiser and straight bar frames were the most heavy duty and easily accessible frames at the time, therefore the most common. Guys used anything that would accommodate fat, knobby tires to soften the ride and wide bars to ease steering.

      Good build. I'm along the lines of your thinking. Ive always considered a klunker a heavy framed bike biuld. My current is a Western Flyer Quasar, the one I just gave away was a Huffy Cranbook. I have a 1987 Huffy Mt. Storm that is about to be a rat-dragster.

    Get yourself a deep-dish cog to move that rear chainline out a bit.
    What is the model name/number of those Tektro cantilever brakes you took off? I need those in my life.

    Merry X-Mas! Where did you find coaster brake rear wheel with 135mm spacing?

    • @ryanmitchell9013
      @ryanmitchell9013 7 месяцев назад

      It’s a pretty old frame so it was likely 5-6 speed so 120-126mm between the dropouts. If larger, it’s not difficult to swap axles and add spacers.
