Well, that’s me, Jen! 💁🏼♀️I’m an American living in Prague for the past 8 crazy years. 🤪What is living in Prague like? What are Czechs like? Is water really cheaper than beer? I’ll tell you all that and more. . .from an American perspective.

I can't believe how much fun golf is, why didn't anyone tell me?? Have you ever played golf in Czech Republic? What's your favorite course?
I have never played golf in my life. How can you hit such a small ball with such a long stick?
I highly recommend driving range at Chateau Havel (Prague 4 but nicely hidden). Very relaxing :) Btw I didn't know about the Marianske Lazne "Royal" thing. Cool!:)
Thanks for the recommendation!
Sometimes, I don't manage to hit it. 😂
@@atiajulia4028 Chateu Havel is nice, sometimes I go there for luch, never played golf. They shoot into lake or something.
As always, your video did not disappoint me :) only entertain, educate, you're a wonderful teacher. I still don't know a lot and living here for 18 years, half of my life. some names are familiar to me, but I can't associate them with any event. And you always present it so humorously.
Wow, thank you! That's lovely to hear!😊
I am an American was looking into possibly getting my bachelor's degree in Prague and decided to just do a search on youtube for "prague golf" expecting to just see like someone filming a course and that be it, little did I know I would find an American talking about golfing in Prague, good video and very informative.
Thank you for teaching me something about my country :D
Haha, thank you for watching!
Doufám, že jsi se poučil, že nejsme Czechia, ale Czech Republic, ale oceňuji, že paní ví, že Československo už neexistuje.

If you want to play with a view of another castle, you can try Hluboká nad Vltavou in South Bohemia.
Thank you for the recommendation!
Great game I see you include Golf! My dad was the first head Golf Pro at Pinehurst so I grew up with it- when in Prague I’m happy to give you some free lessons. Near the Motol is a course and golf hotel. Good golf store in Prague too. Super video!!!! Thanks.
Once golf was mentioned I fell asleep. Im just glad I am not rich, so I don't have to bother with it :-D
Glad I could help you get some rest.😜
@@peterl0815 Trust me, golf is the most thrilling sport ever if you mostly hit the ball smoothly. And every fifth shot is a huge disappointment. I wish my play was at least that good... It must be, though, incredibly boring, if you play on the level you barely hit the ball...

Jinak jako zajímavost můžu ještě uvést hřiště v zámeckém parku v Krásném Dvoře. Bohužel ho nejsem schopen posoudit, golf nehraji.
The issue here - and my understanding of golf - is ... from discussions with my different colleagues ... that abroad, golf is really a common sport and activity for everyone, here, at least at 199x+, it was a hobby for successful entrepreneur (read mafians) to get their business contacts and overall for strange people you really did not want to be a friend with.
This is really insightful for me, thanks! You're right, in the US it's a much more common sport. My family is not wealthy and are not businessmen, but they play golf on public courses, which are a lot cheaper. You can also play on school teams, in high school and university. My husband has been trying to convince me for years to try to play, so I thought it might be interesting to explore the options in Czech Republic and share what I learned. But I see that it's not as popular in CZ as I thought. Thanks!
That is exactly my sentiment, even judging it from across the ocean... :-(
In 199X yes, now in 2020 it's still not the cheapest sport in CZ, but there are quite a lot affordable golf courses, where you can play for several hundred CZK, so you meet all sorts of players there. (The courses from video are among the more expensive ones in this country, if not the most expensive).
I had so many discussions about this exact thing with my fellow passengers on the bus, whenever I was commuting for some practice to Hodkovičky and had my big golf bag with me. In my experience, different types of people frequent different types of golf courses. The rule is very simple - a cheap club or golf course = upper middle class. Expensive exclusive clubs? Yep, that’s where you may encounter the type of people you speak of. They are not the majority of Czech golfers though. The majority of us are normal folk like you 😊 We just fell in love with the game and are fortunate enough to be able to afford this sport. What’s also worth mentioning is that the sport can be done cheaply, particularly if you’re a beginner. I started playing golf at Hodkovičky for a credit at the university (ano, tělák na karlovce) and I bought a complete set of Dunlop clubs (new, not second hand) for 1700 CZK. They were pretty good and lasted me for the first few years.
...it´s interesting also for Czech´s...thanks a lot..
Glad you liked it!
Je zarážející,kolik toho já rodilý Čech, nevím o své otčině. Klobouk dolů.

😂
next video could be on tennis courts :) we have a long history with this sport too and many beautiful places to play.. and it is also considered as a "higher class" sport (and white sport - someone told me)
Petr, I am so unskilled with balls flying at me that you do not want me to make a video attempting to play tennis. 😂😊

Regarding Karlštejn, It's actually not original castle. in late 19th century it was rebuilt into "original gothic shape", which was only romantic impression from history. So what we have now has actually very little to do with original castle, treasury for crown jewelers of kingdom of Bohemia.
You look very good and I wish you good day´s in Czech republic
Let me correct: "...in the Czech Republic". or, because you are not an ambassador talking at an official state's event, but a regular person in an everyday situation: "...in Czechia". Have a good day, cheers from the Italian Republic!

ale najlepší fór je v tom, že tento šport vymyslela chudobná "keltač" - konkrétne tá z toho škótskeho kúta Keď sa nudili pri pasení oviec, tak sa triafali palicami nejaké bobky do králičích nôr.
(the best joke is, that this sports origin is from poor "celticians" - those from scottish corner. When they were bored during sheep shepherding, they were hitting some sheep dung into rabbit holes)

Hi Jennifer,
Sir_Mac here, as always!
I will be honest with you and I am going to tell you, that in the Czech Republic and maybe worldwide, for some people the golf is not the sport of the gentlemen, but the sport of the snobs. Everyone, who feels rich or powerful, is playing golf and they think they are the high class society... Oh they are SOOOOO wrong ... :-)
In my opinion, the sport for the true gentlemen is SNOOKER (pool game). It is the only game, which I know, where the player will plead for commiting something against the rules, if the referee hasn't noticed it.
Two suggestions:
1) Compare the visuals of the CZECH currency and US currency - I mean the coins and the banknotes...
2) Compare the CZECH and US hamburgers, the ingredients, the taste...
Hi Sir Mac! I had never heard of Snooker, but my husband laughed really loudly when he heard your comment. 😂The currency comparison is a nice idea and I think I can work it in to a future videos. (by the way, are you a numismatist?). On the hamburgers...hmmm, I will have to employ the help of my Ordinary Honza who is an expert in Hamburgers, as I don't eat meat 😬...(I know this makes me very un-Czech.) Happy to see your comment as always!
@@DreamPrague I am no numismatist, but everytime I see US banknote, I realize, how sad / poor those banknotes are. The colour scheme is 50 shades of green, nothing more. Czech banknotes are much more different in the terms of used colours.
The meat / hamburger thing - If you don't eat meat because of health reasons (troubles with digesting meat or anything like that) I absolutely comprehend. But if it is only your decision NOT TO EAT MEAT, I would strongly recommend you to revoke this decision :-)
You know, Czech culture is, among other things, very heavily oriented on meat and beer :-)
@@MacGyver5AF I remember, when we split from czechs and print our own Slovak crowns, somebody used it in US (senate or so) to explain that 20SKK banknote has (those days had) lower value than $1 banknote, but it had (because we use euro now) much much higher level of security elements.
so close is as almost??,

Well, this is something that has my absolute support! 😊
Thanks Petr. It's such a divisive topic! Someone said they just unsubscribed because I used "Czechia"! I think the topic deserves it's own video....🤓

@@DreamPrague Divisive indeed, good luck with that video :-] /On the other hand, why are some people so mad how is our country called in English speaking world? Just pure lack of info combined with laziness to get educated?/ I'm glad you Google 'Czechia' and found the right explaining page. czechia-cesko.webnode.cz I found this one [but there must be English version as well] so feel free to spread it with your video if you feel confident that the division will be to the 'positive' side...:-] Stay safe PS: I never 'troll' :-]

Please, please, don't go to CNN. If CNN discover you, it's all over. You are better than their best news anchors.
🤔somehow was the funny content of everyday life paradoxes seen through the eyes of an American living in Czech republic replaced by purely informative content wrapped up in funny presentation form. It's still very funny but not that unique and catchy as it used to be 🤷
Thanks for the feedback! Honestly, I was stuck in Germany for a few months, so I didn't have any everyday interaction with Czechs!
@@DreamPrague You're right, it's a difficult time for everyone, maybe you could make "aus der nor eine Tugend" (to make a virtue of necessity) and bring a video about German-American deferences ;)
Si sexy :)
Greetings from North Carolina. I am not much of a golfer, but this video was really educational. It was almost as good as some of your other videos, keep up the good work. We have escaped from CZ over 45 years ago and at that time I only recall 5 golf courses in the country, four of which you mentioned in this episode. There used to be another one in Prague (Motol) that either isn’t there any longer, or you didn’t think it is worth mentioning.
Thanks again for all your videos, but please try to stay away from using the title “Czechia”, it drives me nuts when I hear or read it. Whoever came up with it should be hanging on the nearest tree branch, but I suppose that’s almost as impossible as wishing for all those communists that should have been hang there to dry after the regime collapsed back in 1989.
Thank you for watching, all the way from North Carolina! Actually, last week, I had a phone call with a lovely Czech viewer who was really adamant that I started to use "Czechia" and gave me a lot of good reasons why. But, in my experience, many Czechs feel as you do-they can't stand it. What's an American to do?? I'lll have to research a little more and perhaps do a video so people can voice their opinions in the comments. 😂😂😂Stay safe and healthy!
Never played golf but... Talk about inappropriate timing for a video like this...
Why? It's one of the only activities that's still allowed!
