I use this video to refresh my memory after attending one of Ray's excellent workshops. I've since polished and restored several vintage machine screws with terrific results.
I gave you the nickname "Billy Ray" when you came to MD. I agree with Kathryn. Thanks so much for these You Tube videos. The details start to dim after taking your machine restoration class and these videos really help to refresh my memory. You should write a book. I know it would be very popular among us vintage machine lovers. Please continue to share your knowledge and expertise with us about restoring our machines. The restorations are amazing.
Great video! What is your method for cleaning and polishing the worm wheel, stop latch, thread guide, throat & needle plates, face & side cover plates??? I got machines with shiny pieces that are now rusty, stained and discolored.
Remove any rust with Evaporust (no corrosive acid) then use buffing wheel on a Dremel. Rust is harder than the steel so it is very difficult to polish something rusty. Products containing acid (even Coke or vinegar) etch the good metal while removing the rust. Kinda counterproductive since ya gotta turn around and polish out the etch damage (which makes shiny metal dull-looking)
I really appreciate your videos. But, it’s very hard to hear with the background noise and the drill. Please consider maybe getting a different set up with a separate microphone. Thanks very much.

Is Ray still around?

Ray , are you still doing workshops? Thank you
I had a very thin needle file and fixed the slot that way
Putting the screw in the drill chuck doesn't damage the threads?
As long as you snug it only. Don't tighten as you would a drill bit
I really appreciate your videos.
