Hammy always lurking around the bars isn't normal it's a bit of a sign that he's stressed I recommend a 600 sq inch cage it may sound like a lot but it would be a good help for your hamster

Hey Stevie! I have some hamster tips for you! 1. Get hammy out of the critter trail cage and get him a DIY bin cage or buy a glass tank for him instead, the critter trail cages are very bad for the hamster's health and since there isn't enough space for them to roam, there are better chances of him dying. 2. Feed him a good diet including seeds, nuts, preferably dried fruit and plenty of nutrition. 3. Give him some roaming time to get out of his cage and run around. It is not suggested to get a hamster ball, because it could tire them out too easily. Hamsters have to be very strong to use them. Instead, get him a play pen so he doesnt escape and put him in an open space, or you can empty out a whole room for him to roam in. 4. Get him at least an 8 inch hamster wheel, and not with wires. If the wheel is too small it could arch his back and eventually break his spine. The wired wheels can give the hamsters a foot disease, and it is deadly. 5. If you get another hamster, put it in a different cage. Hamsters are solitary animals and get violent with another of their species, eventually leading to death. @@SteveTerreberry hey by the way you might want to get a bigger cage for hammy as he is a Syrian Hamster (one of the biggest types) and needs lots of space. Hammy always lurking around the bars isn't normal it's a bit of a sign that he's stressed I recommend a 600 sq inch cage it may sound like a lot but it would be a good help for your hamster

Hey Stevie! I have some hamster tips for you!
1. Get hammy out of the critter trail cage and get him a DIY bin cage or buy a glass tank for him instead, the critter trail cages are very bad for the hamster's health and since there isn't enough space for them to roam, there are better chances of him dying.
2. Feed him a good diet including seeds, nuts, preferably dried fruit and plenty of nutrition.
3. Give him some roaming time to get out of his cage and run around. It is not suggested to get a hamster ball, because it could tire them out too easily. Hamsters have to be very strong to use them. Instead, get him a play pen so he doesnt escape and put him in an open space, or you can empty out a whole room for him to roam in.
4. Get him at least an 8 inch hamster wheel, and not with wires. If the wheel is too small it could arch his back and eventually break his spine. The wired wheels can give the hamsters a foot disease, and it is deadly.
5. If you get another hamster, put it in a different cage. Hamsters are solitary animals and get violent with another of their species, eventually leading to death.
