Honestly, most people dont dislike metallica just to look "cool". most people dislike metallica because they made two good albums, and then almost 30 years of just...just awful radio noise. As far as influence, i suppose you beleive the whole "metallica was the first thrash band". when they absolutely were not.

Anthrax will always be my number 1, but I was happy seeing them at 7.
Anthrax is way too underrated, they're one of my favorite Thrash bands, I wish they got more recognition.
Honorable mentions should include Soundgarden, Mastodon, Korn, and Avenged Sevenfold.
@TREVOR PETERSON I seriously disagree. Korn tried to create a totally new sound, and succeeded! But, a bunch of other bands stole from them and were shoved down our throats by Labels, and so the whole Nu Metal genre crashed and burnt. But, if you listen to Korn even today, they are so goddamn unique and special. Always trying new things, even if some experiments don't work, they'll keep striving, and.. keep hitting a ton of charts in the top 10. 13 albums down the line, they are still crazy creative. Hands down, my favorite band is Korn.

I love that Tool makes these list. I think Testament is underrated in most of these I love lamb of god and slipknot, but then we might as well add mudvayne, Disturbed and Godsmack. Testament started with the big 4 and is prolly putting out better albums than the big 4 . They should be on the top 10 in my eyes.
Can't really categorize Tool as metal. Tool is just Tool. They are too unique to be one genre. But I'm certainly glad they were recognized and listed.

These kind of lists don't really matter to me. I'm just glad that I grew up listening to all these great bands and enjoy blasting their music on my stereo and going to their concerts.

Also, I'm glad to see Death on here but disappointed by the lack of Faith No More and Acid Bath. I get that you only have 10 picks on here, but I think that the two bands that, along with Death and Pantera, rewrote the book on Metal Vocals.

Im kind of suprised that Disturbed isnt listed. Like am i mistaking but they are a metal band from America and they are really good. They are probably better lyricly and themewise than atleast half of the listed bands. A personal opinion im just a huge Disturbed fan no hate pls :(.

The rest is Nu metalish at the beginning and slowly evolving into alt metal and then finally in heroish hard "rock" style with Immortalized. Im sorry but I have to disagree with you.

I wouldn't call Death a "mainstream" band in any way, but they're so relevant because of their impact on death metal and they deserve to be on this list. I do get what you mean, a lot of young thrash/groove metal fans don't get into them just because they're immediately turned off by their prog-rock origins and their 18 minute songs. But they still are relevant enough to be on this list.
