Steamrolling Opie cutting off Anthony, ignoring him and Bill Burr, and focusing on callers. He asked Anthony what caller to go to then ignored what he said. Then his screaming and repeating of Anthony's line at 24:40. Fuck, that board operator never should have had a mic or a paycheck.
It's not a "disease" a la AA dogma terminology, but it's certainly an addiction. Both psychologically and physically, and one of the worst physical addictions one can have, as the withdrawal alone can kill you. And you can have willpower all you want while you get seizures, twitching, anxiety, delusions...I have had a seizure from quitting drinking CT, it's no fucking joke. Comparing it to smoking is incredibly naive. Smoking is more psychologically addictive, but alcohol is the most physically addictive substance on the planet, along with benzodiazepines. Edit: And no, it's not fun at all to drink all day every day. It comes with a lot of pain, not only for loved ones but for the individual. And you don't avoid hangovers when you continue to constantly drink, you just increase the pain. The headaches the mornings after the small amounts of poor quality sleep and the hole in my stomach fucking disagrees. These guys are funny sometimes, but they make wrong statements very often.
This clip is a little dated, I remember when this was a debate. I agree with previous posters saying it's semantics. Alcoholism, when you're undergoing physical withdrawls (which you can die from) is extraordinarily dangerous and millions of Americans still don't even know about that. If you get professional help and a proper detox, then you go out and buy a bottle of vodka, that's a personal, selfish choice. For people to blame that choice on "a disease" is bullshit. I do feel though for people in the madness of withdrawls who aren't getting the proper care.
If it is, in the words of Norm MacDonald. "It's the best one."
“That’s the obvious thing I was gonna say.” -Opie, 2:35
