Yay, winter is nearly over 😀. I could hear your birds singing away and your garden already looks great. It's a busy time in garden preparation, cleaning and loosening up the soil ready for mulch, but the weather is so beautiful 😍. Love your new project and looking forward to seeing it fill out. Have a great day 😀
Hello Kim and yes, we are going to be so busy very soon. I have this week off for half term so I’m hoping to get out today after my dog walk and do a bit of moving around of things. Looks a bit frosty out there right this moment but hopefully the sun is going to come out. Have a really lovely day 💕
Hi Janette you made me laugh, keep trimming the trunk up to the first ball. I trimmed a box once, trying to get a nice round ball, l snipped and snipped and got a perfect ball, a golf ball! ha! ha! I think yours turned out rather well, a bit of growth on it and it will look great. I've just started getting out in the garden again. I'm excited to see our bulbs coming up. Enjoy your day 🧑🌾🐝🦋🌿🤗
Good morning Penny 😃 my balls aren’t much bigger than tennis 🎾 balls 😂 but still, a fun way to spend a morning and hopefully it will bush out a bit and if it doesn’t, oh well, I didn’t care for it much anyway 😆 it’s so nice, it’s getting lighter at each end of the day now. Very exciting. Have a wonderful day 💕
Good morning Janette, looking forward to seeing how your topiary progresses over the season. Your birds seem to be getting in the spring spirit. I'm finally seeing signs of life in my garden. I had my first crocus bloom yesterday and my daffodils are beginning to sprout. 34 days till spring !!! I'm about to become a grandfather for the second time . My daughter's due date is today.
Hi there! Yes those birds were having a real good song, isn’t it lovely. Your crocuses are ahead of mine, mine are not all up yet, a few are but only about an inch tall. I wonder if I left it too late to plant them - I did it on 23rd December. I am curious to see how my topiary does too. And oh wow congratulations in advance for your daughter, how exciting!! Do let me know, boy or girl 💙 💖🥰
Hello Jane, thanks for watching. I am looking forward to seeing what happens too!! I don’t know about clever though 😂 fun giving it a go, not sure the cypress enjoyed it much 🥰
♥️ Happy Valentines Day ♥️ Janette ♥️ I love your can-do attitude. You just started cutting on that cypress like a pro and the result is quite pleasing. It didn’t hurt to have those lovely birds 🐦 cheering you on with their sweet Spring songs. It’s been a bit unseasonably warm here so I’ve been able to get outside and do some chores - cutting wayward branches, raking up sticks and twigs and general cleanup from the very windy weather we’ve had lately. My crocuses started blooming before the end of January and the daffodils are getting taller every day; won’t be long before they start blooming. Tulips are coming up as well. Thanks for another lovely video. Hope the rest of your day goes well. Update: I watched the topiary video and it was fascinating! Thanks for sharing. 😊
Hello JC and what lovely comments, thank you 💕 yes those birds were certainly a cheerful sound. Your crocuses are far ahead of mine which are only poking out an inch (and lots not at all) but I may have planted them too late as I didn’t do it until 23 Dec. But we will see. Sounds like you got loads done today, so did I! Was such a lovely day and I have the week off for half term so I spent 2 hours moving plants around and it was so lovely. I didn’t film it so it took me half the time it would have done and Lotte sat and watched me the whole time. It’s now 5.17pm and not yet dark so it’s been a really Springlike few days. Have a lovely evening 🥰
Hello there Lil, thanks for watching 😃 I hope it does well, I didn’t really like it much so it’s worth a try, and I had fun even if the plant didn’t 😆😊
Hi Janette 👋🏻 great to see you getting all creative with the cypress 🌳topiary. I think that you have improved its form rather than just up ⬆and down⬇ It was nice to hear all the birds chirping away 🐦🎶🎶it is starting to feel a little bit closer to spring, 🤞🏻I'm optimistic. Thanks for sharing your topiary adventures, it good fun to watch. Bfn. 🐞🌻🌱
Hi Judy, I think we are a couple of weeks behind you, ours is 26th March. I just googled to find out exact date. But … it’s now 5.30pm and only just getting dark. Not long to wait, oh and the mornings it’s getting light about 7am 🎉🎉🎉
Hello Debbie and Happy Valentines to you & Adrian 💖 thanks for watching. I had a lovely 2 hours out in the garden this morning (I have the week off for half term) and did lots of moving plants and tidying up a lot. Hope you’re having a lovely week 💕
Hi Janette, your first project for 2023. That must have been a bit scary cutting into your cypress but it's turned out very well. Looking forward to watching it fill out over the Spring and Summer. Very interesting about the central leader. The David Austen should be very happy near the fence. Will that be the next project? Your Spring garden is going to be so stunning with the yellow and purple of the daffodils and crocuses. I wasn't sure how to write the plural of crocus so I asked my friend Google and he said it can be crocuses or croci or just plain crocus. A bit of useless information that you probably already knew but I didn't. Hope you and Richard are having a lovely week. Much love, Bron xx
Hello there Bron 😄 and thanks so much, I’m not sure my cypress enjoyed the process but I did 🤣 it should be fine 🤞 and good to know the plural for crocus too haha, now I know 😊 we’ve had such lovely weather past few days, but today I was hoping to do more tidying up (I have the week off) but it was too cold and damp so I abandoned that idea. I have managed to move some plants around this week, and divided my sedum autumn joy so now have two sections of that. Did a bit more leaf picking up too, that’s never ending. Very excited for Spring now!! Hope you’re all good 😍
Hi there Pamela and thank you. I had fun giving it a go. We shall see what happens but will be lovely if it thrives and does well. It’s been so Springlike and sunny the past few days which is wonderful. Wishing you a lovely rest of the week 💕
Good Morning Janette What a great idea🎉 I'm sure it won't fail to grow. Yes i can't wait for spring too. My kerria japonica is nearly in bloom. Its a plant that really livens up the garden. The yellow jasmine around my front door has been in bloom all winter. Looks cheery on those cold dull days. The one robin i see makes an apppearance every now and then ( like Lucy😂). And of course my tulips in pots hopefully will give a good show this year. Look after yourself. Sorry about the novelette😵 💞
I love your novelettes Sharon 😊 I love hearing about your garden. It’s so lovely having a bit more light and the beginning and end of the day and it’s not much longer now, Spring soon, so exciting. Wishing you a fabulous day💕
Love your adventurous spirit! It looks so much better than just that straight up and down form! Absolutly you have everything to gain and your others topiary forms always look so pleasing in your garden!! I’m excited! The cones needed to be removed if just to give the forms more definition! Your weather looks good and the birds sounded like Spring🌞
Good morning Teresa, it’s such a gorgeous day today too and I’ve just come in from a couple of hours moving and dividing - I have this week off 😊 it was fun trying the topiary so will be interesting to see whether I’ve killed it or not 😂😂🥰
We are just about to make dinner now. Might have a quick dance in the kitchen while it’s cooking then 😂 it’s 5.25pm and not even dark yet … very Springlike.
Hello Nancy, yes I’m hoping it will bush out more too 🙏 that’s such a weird little flowerbed, it gets no sunshine and the soil depth is minimal before you hit concrete, so we shall see. Hope you’re doing ok 🥰
Hi. Your videos always bring a smile to my face. I love the way you will just 'have a go'. Having only recently found your videos I have been going back to the beginning. Watching you print the wooden cat and mushrooms from a couple of years ago. I am enjoying catching up with them all. 😃
Hello Pauline, it’s so lovely to have a new gardening friend. Goodness me, there are so many videos 😆 I think you just have to ‘have a go’, especially me, I have no training, only what I’ve learned from watching everyone else’s garden videos and trying (and killing) things in my own garden. I do love being outside though as I’m in an office Mon-Friday all day and it’s so good for our well-being isn’t it? Well, thank you so much for coming along into mine and I wish you a really lovely rest of the week 💕🥰
And thank you for coming along Lauren 💕 you’re right, worth a try as I didn’t even like that cypress so perhaps it will turn into one of my favourites 🤞 have a happy rest of the week 💕
You really have a talent for creating topiaries! I haven't tried this yet, but I may give it a try this year. It may get a little expensive though if it doesn't go well! Can't wait to see your spring bulbs!
Good morning Sue and I’m sure not that I have a talent 🤣 but I had fun trying, plus it helped that I didn’t mind if it didn’t turn out 😆 but it was a fun morning and maybe it will do well 🤞 I’m so looking forward to the bulbs too, not long now. Hope you’re doing well and have a happy weekend 💕
Hi Janette..nothing like working in the garden with the birds chirping your way..topiary turned out nicely with its new haircut...how is the Yucca plant ? Have a lovely week my friend.
Hello MJ and thank you, the birds did sound so happy and chirpy 😊 I will see what happens to my topiary, but I think it’s quite cute and I didn’t like it before so it’s worth a go. But the yukka is still looking very rough, I don’t hold out much hope for it, although everyone is telling me to hold off pulling it for a bit longer. So I will … but it’s looking very dead to me 😂 wishing you a wonderful day 💕
Good job Jeanette, I enjoyed watching your pruning skills in action. I learnt a lot from it. Be creative in your garden in a skill and yet another reason how garden keeps on giving. Maybe it gives us a sense of achievement too? Keep on pruning ! I cut my lawn the other day, looks so much better, a lot of work ahead.
Hi there Stephen, oh the first cut of a lawn makes everything look so much nicer doesn’t it? Thanks for watching!! I am hoping my cypress recovers from its shock 😂 I have my fingers crossed 🤞 hope you’re doing ok my friend 💕
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener I'm doing good thanks, hope you are too. It's good we can share each others ideas and gardens, it helps to overcome the winter blues. Thank you. PS I'm sure your cypress will recover and become a wanted feature now.
Hi :) I love this Cyprus tree, the cones are lovely. Conifer types seem to look good as a group of different shapes and sizes but I just don’t have the space. Love your have a go attitude. Birds sound wonderful chirping away.
Hello there!! Yes the birds sounded so happy didn’t they? I agree, conifers do look lovely as a group. I will definitely keep you updated on how my cypress does, I’m hoping it will be happy 😉🥰
Hello Eileen, I forgot it’s Valentines Day 💖 Happy Valentines Day to you too! Richard and I don’t celebrate it, I tell him he has to be nice to me every day, not just once a year 😂 but he’s quite romantic, it’s the little things I think, like he gets the ice off the car for me in the mornings 😊 I was going to put it in a pot initially but that would have meant going out and buying a nice new one so I thought I’d just plant it quickly instead. Hope you’re doing ok 🥰
So sorry I missed this comment somehow! I wanted to let you know that it’s almost a year later and my three ball topiary has done so well, I still have it (since moved to a new location) and it’s filled out and looking really nice. I do hope you give it a try ❤️🩷
Thats a great job Janette what a sweet little topiary. I tried doing that with a potted lemon cypress tree last year. Got carried away and snipped it shorter and smaller than i wanted but it grew ok even if it is a bit lopsided 😄. Its got character is what i say. Hope you are keeping well x
Hello Lou, it’s just too easy to get carried away when trying topiary isn’t it 😂😂 just one more snip and then we’ve gone too far 😆 but it’s fine and like you say, they normally grow back. Hope you’re having a great week, we’ve had wonderful sunshine here today ☀️
Love how adventurous you are 😁 looks cute ... Happy Velentines Day !!! 😊 Glad to see you raking up the grass... in competition with Mom now for best grass 😄😆😉
Hi Lorraine, thanks so much and I hope you had a Happy Valentines. I had fun chopping my poor cypress 😂 I bought Mum one of those plastic rakes and that’s all she’ll need really. She’s so delighted with her new lawn. Wishing you a fabulous rest of the week. I have the week off for half term so have been outside tidying up yesterday and hope to do a bit more today 🥰
😊😊 it’s the school holidays. We have 3 terms a year and half term is a week’s holiday in the middle of each term 😊 and then we get a couple of weeks off at the end of each term too 👍😉
Hi Janette! You did a great job on that little tree. I'm going to try that this spring. It's getting closer! Can't wait to get outside. Warming up a lot here but I know we could have a freeze yet and some snow (hope not!) 😊 Have a great week!!
Hello Peggy and thank you, I hope you give yours a try and good luck with that 😊 we’ve had 3 or 4 gorgeous sunny days but like you say it can all still change, but it’s lighter at each end of the day now. About 7am and 5.30 now, so exciting 🥰
😉😃 thanks Jasmine 😉 hope you’re doing ok, was going to do some gardening today but it’s turned out damp cold and windy so that’s that idea out the window 😜😍
Great job Janette. Can't wait to see how it fills out. Your garden is looking so nice. The wonderful weather makes all the difference to our mental health doesn't it?. Are your doggies sisters? I can never tell them apart. Love the way that Lottie/Lucy comes up to watch what you're doing.
Hello Wendy, how are you? Well I had fun doing that, not sure the cypress enjoyed it much 😂 yes they are sisters from the same litter and Lotte is always outside with me and Lucy is lazy and sleeps inside. When they are together you can easily tell them apart as Lucy is half the size because she was an actual twin (same sac as another sister) was I understand is quite unusual, and I keep in touch with the owner of her twin. Her dog is called Lottie (as is their Mum) so it’s very confusing 😂😂 yes being outside is just SO good for us, it’s gorgeous today 🥰
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener I'm very well thank you Janette and enjoying this fabulous weather. I'm itching to get my seeds sown but know that I have to hold fire as the weather can turn and I mustn't get lulled into a false sense of security. Thanks for filling me in on the doggies. They are beautiful. When I watched your video today I enjoyed watching Lottie having a mad few minutes running up and down your garden. Dogs are so entertaining and have their own little personalities. See you next week.
Aww yes they do have little personalities. I haven’t planned any seed sowing, I might give it a go but like you I have to wait for the weather to warm up first. I might just direct sow lots of zinnias this year, mine were so gorgeous last year. 🥰
I’ll like to do something like that , I have never tried topiary. I think it will look good where you put it . Always interesting to watch your videos my friend .
Oh thank you Bonny, I’m hoping it will look better and bushier in a few months, but if it doesn’t then I haven’t really lost anything apart from my time, which was a whole lot of fun. Do you have snow where you are? Have a wonderful day 💕
Hi Janette, it will be really interesting to see how the Cypresses develops. I've started watching Linda Vater following your recommendation and am fascinated at her recent move to a house with a blank canvas garden, exciting but daunting, interested to know your thoughts? Xx
Hello Julie, so glad you’ve started watching Linda Vater, she’s one of my favourites and I never miss an episode. I think I would be very daunted with a blank lawn but I suppose you just start making flowerbeds and filling them up, she’s so good though it’s bound to look amazing. I got my love of topiary from her. I don’t suppose you saw her last garden then? I love her new home, it’s gorgeous. Hope you’re well and yes 🤞 fingers crossed for my topiary 😊🥰
Ah! They are my allium heads that I cut off last year and dried and spray painted them. I keep meaning to throw them away but they’ve lasted all this time (since about May). It’s my way of keeping them and I usually do that and spray them a different colour each year 💕
Thanks for your video and I think now that I have seen someone else do it I am going to do the same. What type of David Austin Rose do you have that you are going to move?
Hello there Rio and thanks for watching (you have a great name too 😊), well I’m so glad if I’ve given you the inspiration to give it a try! Really, if I can do it then anyone can 😊 as I’m no expert. I’ve moved my rose now and it’s a DA Olivia Austin and it’s just beautiful but grows about 7ft tall so now it’s over by the fence so hopefully in a better spot. Do let me know how you get on with your topiary!! 👍🥰
Hello there Philip! Thanks for watching and it’s doing really well. You will have seen where I initially planted it in this video and about 2 months ago I moved it to my very long border along the fence. It’s really thriving, I’m so pleased with it! I’ll try and remember to show you in a video! Hope you’re having a great week 🩵💚🩷

This is a wonderful video. You make this look very manageable. I can’t wait to try it out in my garden.
Glad to see you raking up the grass... in competition with Mom now for best grass 😄😆😉
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener wish I had a week off here in America for half term ( whatever that means ) ? 😉
😊😊 it’s the school holidays. We have 3 terms a year and half term is a week’s holiday in the middle of each term 😊 and then we get a couple of weeks off at the end of each term too 👍😉
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener wow!!! I want to work at school 😆😄😉
I know! It’s pretty good 😊
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener Absolutely! I love the daylight late!
Me too!!! 💕💕
Great job on your first topiary!
Hi Lindy Lou and thank you!! I have high hopes for my cypress, will keep you updated. Have a lovely rest of the week 💕
Cracking job Janette 🥰 I’m so proud of you 🥰
😉😃 thanks Jasmine 😉 hope you’re doing ok, was going to do some gardening today but it’s turned out damp cold and windy so that’s that idea out the window 😜😍
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener Same here 😃
Oh well, we’ll be out all the time soon 🎉🎉
Hello Max, Happy Valentines too 💖 I did have fun giving it a go and I’ll keep you updated how it goes. Have a happy week 💕
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener happy valentines my friend . You keep us updated, always watching 😊
wonderful garden . well done
Hi there Pigeono and thank you so much for joining me today. Have a happy rest of the week 💕
Its looking good already!
Oh thank you so much Brenda, it was a lot of fun (for me, not the cypress 😂). Hope you have a great week 🥰
Beautiful plant 🌴👌
Hello there, thank you so much for visiting me again today. Hope you’re having a really lovely weekend 💖
Your cypress looks much nicer as a topiary Janette. Good choice. Bonny zone 5b Canada
Oh thank you Bonny, I’m hoping it will look better and bushier in a few months, but if it doesn’t then I haven’t really lost anything apart from my time, which was a whole lot of fun. Do you have snow where you are? Have a wonderful day 💕
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener Just a little left right now. It's been 13C today. I know it won't last much longer. Bonny
Oh that sounds promising 💕
Thank for sharing looking good
Hello Wendy and thanks so much for watching … hope all is good with you 🥰
Hi Janette, it will be really interesting to see how the Cypresses develops.
@The Enthusiastic Gardener yes she's amazing, you should train Richard to be like her Stuart and follow you around with a camera 😅😆xx
😂😂 he’d be constantly doing that “wrap it up” action I think. Must be so nice though having someone doing all the camera work. 🥰
I have to ask, what are those cute little mini lollipop plants in the grey wooden shelf on the wall? 😊
Oh you could give me a trim anytime J😂
😂😂😂 James!!
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener but not with them big shears 😳
😂😂 you do make me laugh!!
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener good 🤡
Any updates on the 3 ball tree
Hello there Philip! Thanks for watching and it’s doing really well. You will have seen where I initially planted it in this video and about 2 months ago I moved it to my very long border along the fence. It’s really thriving, I’m so pleased with it! I’ll try and remember to show you in a video! Hope you’re having a great week 🩵💚🩷
☕️🪴☕️ENJOYED ☕️🪴☕️
Hey Marlise and thank you so much, as always, and have a happy week 💕
Hi you can definitely come over and do mine
😊
Are you sure you want me near your prized plants Tina? 😂 well I had great fun giving this a try, not sure the cypress enjoyed it much 😂🥰💖
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener it looked like you did a great job
Think you could take up grooming 😆
😂😂😂 you know what happened the last (and only) time I tried that 😂
That’s true maybe not then 😂😂😂
