Thank you for your true and honest channel, I am glad I found it; no drama or fake off grid, just a true honest desire to live and receive blessings of a simpler and better way of life. Although I grew up in Utah and Wyoming I now live in southeast Oklahoma. The life you have chosen is the way I grew up. My bride and I have 50 acres complete with cattle, chickens , pigs and other farm animals; we are raising the last 3 of our 10 children in this environment hoping that it carries over into their married life. We try to instill within them the love of our land and a love for the simple life. We raise gardens and preserve food for our years supply of food. No we do not have a channel we just watch, It is such a pleasure to see the love you have for how you are living. We will continue to be your fans.
My grandma would take a WHOLE chicken put it in a crockpot and put a WHOLE jar of what she called Sweet and spicy peppers. Let it cook several hours until done. Then you have sweet and spicy chicken. It also make GREAT sandwiches the next day using the left over cold chicken.
I love your harvest and canning videos. They inspire me to keep growing stuff! Ever since I heard this saying I have loved it: anyone can count the seeds in an apple but only God can count the apples in a seed. You know, gardening keeps my sense of wonder so alive. A tiny seed produces a big plant and food and lots of it. And the food includes seeds for more food! God is so smart!
I just started making Cowboy Candy this summer. I no longer can eat a BLT without them! I can them into 4 oz jars, pair them with cream cheese and crackers, put into basket and give them as gifts.
You know so much about gardening and canning. You will never have to go hungry, that for sure. My dad always had a great garden. I’m going to remember to put that fabric down on the garden from now on. I’m going to tell everyone I know that puts out a garden to do it too. Your garden looks amazing! It looks even better with that fabric put down. It kinda makes your garden look like a parking lot with amazing vegetables growing through the pavement. I had never seen it done until I started watching your channel. I noticed that you were even barefoot and still had clean feet 🦶.
Hello from Maryland! My wife and I have been watching for a while now before the Corona virus hit the US . We enjoy your upbeat personalities and homesteading tips. You and your husband have been a blessing to us. Would love to meet you all someday. May God continue to bless you and your family. Amen!
This year the first batch of pickles peppers I did I about choked to death and then had a cough for about a day and a half. I’ve been making my friends and family masks. So the next batch I wore a mask and it made a huge difference!
I feel your pain. My first year growing jalapenos I prepared and froze poppers - OMG I could hardly breath - I bought a bandana with flames and peppers just to wear for pepper projects. It helped but not as much as actual mask.
As a former medical professional, unless a mask provides a firm seal around your nose and face it is useless against airborne viruses, you and airborne pneumonia. Also, the masks used are consider only effective for a short time as your breath create moisture and renders them ineffective. If you don't eat jalapenos regularly and become sick, they can be great for causing a immune response. I make chili with jalapenos in a five at crock and slit three habanero sinking them until they fidolve. It is usually more heat than many can handle but it helps purge you.
@Chris B When sick with a cold or flu, it works best to eat the full strength of the peppers or make a high protein chili where you eat the fluids of the peppers. Hot enough to make you sweat, if your stomach can handle it . I have had drips of sweat literally run down from !y scalp. Allergies are a different matter than being sick. The jgetmsvof sickness can be driven out by this but a allergy is not caused by germs.
We harvest or preserve every day as well! The goats are doing GREAT and Rorie lets me hand milk her after YEARS of subbornness!! Took some work but it was worth it! 😍🐐🐐🐐🐐
@@lisal77 I haven't updated in a long while (Covid has us really busy growing food) but I'll try to update on them soon!! Maybe I'll record during evening goat chores tonight. 😊
I always find your videos helpful since we just live a few hours north of you. When we can, we always heat a small pan of water to boiling, turn it off and place our new canning lids in for 5 minutes to sterilize them and prepare the rubber seal. Also, with water bath canners, we always had a rack in the bottom of the canner so the glass jars didn't sit directly on the metal bottom of the pot. The water can then circulate under the jars being processed. That said, we discovered the Back to Basics steam canner a few years back and will never go back to water bath canning. (Foods requiring pressure, of course need to be in a pressure canner.) Steam canning is much easier to set up, requires less water, and heats up the kitchen less. Glad you're enjoying the Show-Me State. We're pleased that you moved here!
Thanks for the info in the steam canner. Never heard of it. The rules have changed recently and warming the lids is no longer necessary. I’ve also never used a rack in my canner. Never had a problem. 🤷🏻♀️
As a new gardener, I find the biggest challenges are: 1) Exactly when to harvest peas, beans, cucumbers, etc. 2) How to properly cook them. 3) How to freeze the excess for later cooking. As it is harvesting time for you, and if it is of interest, perhaps you could do some videos on those topics. Thanks!
I love your episodes from your homestead. The recipe for the cowboy candy pickling syrup can be used for your green tomatoes, when they come about. Joan, Denmark
Have made cowboy candy for about 5 years delicious!! I put it in omelets, burgers, hotdogs, delicious in tacos, any type of sandwich you can think of, marinate meats, I’ve even used the brine as a liquid in my hot pepper and cheese bread yum yum, thanks for sharing your day.
You mentioned doing your first batch of cowboy candy without cooking your peppers. That’s exactly what I did the first time I pickled banana peppers. Lol. Absolutely love all your videos. I was raised in that area on 100 acres-but my husband and I are just getting started on our own small homestead in Louisiana, after doing the corporate “expected thing,” (me) and the military (him). Love your channel, thank you so much for sharing such valuable info. I am 38, have terminal cancer and am on my bucket list cross country trip to see friends & family in an RV. Have LOVED binging your videos on the road. Unfortunately, my dream of homesteading won't come true but I enjoy living vicariously through families like you. The Playlist are especially helpful. However, I have found some things I WILL have fun trying once we return home. I LOVE pepper jelly and my husband LOVES spicy jalapeño anything lol. Cowboy candy is a must once we get home. Will be even better if I can find some farm fresh from a local market, fingers crossed! Thank you for sharing!!
I love to brush the liquid on chicken then throw on the grill. The smokiness of the charcoal pairs with the heat of the jalapenos so well. When cooked, we add a few more to the top. I also like to add a few red ripe jalapenos or bell peppers to give it a little extra color and is perfect for gifting at Christmas with the red and green.
Oh my gosh. your jalapenos were beautiful. So many on your plants. I am so jealous ...my plants never produce like that. What a wonderful and lush garden.

I love this channel so much. My husband and i garden and use ALL the advice that Kevin and Sarah give. We owe our beautiful garden to them. So question for anyone who can answer. We got the garden ground cover that Kevin and Sarah got. How long does it typically last before it has to be replaced? Just something we were curious about. We used a hand torch to make our holes so it doesn't fray. And we are going to roll it up every fall and store it during winter.... Someone let me know. Thanks in advance. Andi and Brian
You should get 5 or more years out of it. We have some that is on its 3rd season now and is still in great shape! So glad it’s working as well for you as it has for us! God Bless!
I just got mine too and I'm hopeful that this will help turn the table in my war on weeds. My question is does it have to be removed in the fall or can you just leave it out over winter? Also I love that you share recipes you make with your crops. It's nice to get new ideas.
SILKS Family Farm You can leave it out, but after the first year, dirt and weed seeds will blow onto it and germinate and grow down through. Also, some will grow up through as well, especially in the holes where the pins are poked to hold it down. Also, it’s a good idea to amend the soil underneath with some kind of organic matter every year so the soil doesn’t compact too much.
My new favorite for cowboy candy is on grilled cheese sandwiches!!!! Also, when I sliced the peppers I had to buy a mask from Harbor Freight that is used for paint spray, ect. It's a P95 mask for solid and oil aerosols. I had problems with slicing because of the fumes and it affected my lungs for hours. I finally asked a lady in my class that makes pepper jellies professionally and she suggested the mask. It was under $20.00 and sooo worth it. Also, my original recipe calls for 2 Tablespoons of mustard seed. My peppers aren't ready yet. Still small :( Thank you for your wonderful videos.
Four beautiful bell peppers, four family members....hmmmm...sounds like a match made in heaven, stuffed baked peppers for dinner tonight.....can’t get any fresher than that. I absolutely love watching your garden show Sarah, it does wonders for my weary soul. God Bless you, Kevin, and your girls. See you next video, lol
Sitting on my front porch having a cup of coffee and a notification popped up and this made my day thank you guys so much god bless and look forward to many more harvesting video you guys are amazing and so relaxing to watch keep doing what you do you have been an amazing blessing to my family
Watched this the day it posted. Harvested about 2lbs of jalepenos today, so they are in the water bath now. Excited to try them. I would think a pork roast in the crock pot would be amazing.
That brought back memories. First time I worked with jalapenos I had sliced about 3 pounds. A friend was over, she came into the kitchen yelped and jumped back out. " whoa how can you stand it in there?'. I was numb to it but she would not come back in. Sarah you are looking good. And so is that garden.
When Sarah talks about Cowboy Candies a german thinks of a Candystore with Haribo and such things like that, now i know what she is talking about, and yes Kevin put these Candies on your Burger and make one for me to please, but dont forget the Bacon Greetings from Germany
😂😂😂😂😂😂I can imagine the visuals you got concerning the Cowboy candy!!! Here's a nice little recipe for you. It's called Cowboy Ice cream Sunday......its actually really really good... .give it a try. Fry up some bacon crisp.not burned, but crisp. Have some maple syrup. So here is the recipe. Vanilla ice cream. Chopped nuts.fried bacon.whipped cream.maple syrup. I scoop of vanilla ice cream in a dish Whipping cream around the the ice cream.then some chopped crisp bacon, some nuts if you like.the some maple syrup. There it is......Cowboy Ice cream Sunday.....

@@MrClivelupo yeah, the first time I heard of it I thought my friends were crazy, but I tried it and doggone, its really good!!! Another crazy thing,is years ago I used to home brew beer, its actually easier than you think, and my brother in law actually made Jalapeno beer....kid you not,but it wasn't hot....it was actually sweet.....
Hi Sarah, congratulations for your awesome harvest!! Dear, if you want your jalapeños to abound more, perhaps you'd like to try experiment with a twist: we usually add sliced carrots, sliced onions and garlic to our jalapeños when we can them. The vegetables absorb some of the heat and taste delicious. We stirfry all the vegetables before filling the jars. You can also add bay leaves, thyme and a little salt to the mixture. We find it delicious!
RUclips canning videos inspired me to make Cowboy Candy...first batch was such a hit! Since it only made four 1/2 pints, and because family asked me for jars, I canned a 2d batch...and doubled it! I also preserved the leftover syrup and my spouse drizzles it on everything.
I love to hear the popping of my canned goods. Cowboy candy is something we will definitely have to try. A favorite in our house is Strawberry Jalapeno Jam.
The garden looks so BEAUTIFUL! My mouth was watering looking at all those yummy veggies, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE, fried green tomatoes! Yum. The cowboy candy sounds wonderful on top of cream cheese and crackers. 😋😋😋😋😋
We add a couple of tablespoons of the syrup to our potato salad, use the syrup to can pineapple chunks. We call it cowboy pineapple. My husbands favorite is cowboy onions. Cook onions in the syrup until soft and then can.
I put what is called Jezabel sauce over cream cheese, a jar of apple jelly, a jar of pineapple preserves, and a jar of apricot preserves mix and add horse radish to taste and pepper over a block of cream cheese and bam Jezebel Sauce Enjoy!! Those peppers look great!!!
I canned these last year for the first time. A little extra work but so worth it. We liked them so much, we planted twice as many jalapeno peppers this year.
Holy smokes that cowboy candy is good! My peppers here in NY are just starting to come in so I did a mixture of cayenne, banana and jalepano with the cowboy juice. IT.BLEW.MY.MIND. Can’t wait for the family to try it and to start canning it!
Jessica H no cut off top deseed and throw them in a freezer bag. I stuff them frozen when i make stuffed peppers. Turn out great. Have been doing it for 35 years.
This is exciting! I'm a Southerner born and raised and love jalapenos but have never tried cowboy candy. I moved from the States and now live in Sweden (Europe) and this could be something to really bring me that Southern nostalgia which helps me from becoming homesick. I just happened to grow jalapenos this year. Thank you! Can't wait to try it. PS. Do you ever save your seeds?
Definitely gonna give this recipe a try. I usually make hot pepper jelly every year but this is a nice variation. I grow the orange and yellow jalapenos which make a pretty dish. Also, if ur hubby doesn't like cream cheese he may like plain goat with it. We serve the hot pepper jelly over goat cheese with crackers to guests and they don't even realize that it isn't cream cheese😊
Rose Jafari I'll have to try venturing into making cream cheese. I do make my own organic soy yogurt so it's a possibility I could make cream cheese with it
@heyitsme my sister just requested this recipe and I suddenly remembered I was supposed to give it to you also. JALAPENO PEPPER JELLY 2 Cups finely chopped green peppers 1 Cup finely chopped jalapeno peppers 1 1.75 oz.. pkg powdered fruit pectin 1cup apple Cider vinegar 5 cups sugar Put peppers in stainless steel pot. Add apple Cider vinegar. Heat to low boil. Add pectin. Boil rapidly for 1 minute. Add sugar. Stir till mixture starts to gel on sides of pan. Pour into jars leaving 1/4 inch headspace. Process 10 minutes in water bath canner Makes 4-5 8oz jars I hope you get this😊....Enjoy
My niece's 5-year-old (starting when he was 4) loves watching the "Kevin and Sarah Channel". If he sees me watching another RUclips channel, it never fails that he will watch for a few seconds and then say, "That's not Kevin and Sarah. Let's watch Kevin and Sarah build something." He especially loved your last chicken tractor build. Sometimes I will randomly pick another channel just to watch him tell me it's not Kevin and Sarah. When he has the remote, he knows exactly how to find "Kevin and Sarah".
I don't like peppers unless they are fresh... it's a texture thing. However, my brother loves peppers every which way! I think I will make up a batch of this syrup and freeze it in small bags to use as needed. He brings home produce twice a week, with plenty of peppers already. He is going to love this. Thanks Sarah.
You mentioned cooking them in your syrup, I actually tried something new last year and it worked great and was incredible for the flavor. I roasted my peppers in the oven before i chopped them and it was amazing
Sarah,I really like your channel. I have picked up good tips from watching your channel. Made your cowboy candy , turned out great.I added a yellow, red, &orange bell peppers, 1 onions and some banana peppers to the mix. we all liked it. big hit with my brothers.thanks!!
I love candied jalapeno. I bought a pint jar for $8.00 before I decided to make my own. Even with buying the jalapenos I can make a pint for about a dollar. I love them on cream cheese and they are great with any barbeque.
Sarah!!! I canned my first pickles today!! I heard the pop of the lids!! You have inspired me and my husband over the past 2 years to grow our own food and to preserve. I have been so scared to can but you have made it looks easy and fun! So after harvesting cukes from my garden this morning, I made 2 cans of bread and butter and 2 of kosher dill. I just wanted to thank you for caring for people and sharing your skills with others.
My Husband cans our Cowboy Candy. The smell chokes me up too much. I am the only person in our house that doesn't really care for it, the rest of them, eat it like crazy. You have shown me a new way to make it. I will have him watch this and try some of it your way. Who knows, I might actually start to like it then! Thank you so much for allow us to live vicariously through you.
You could get a P95 mask that painters use for oils and aerosols. That's what I had to do because it made my lungs hurt from the coughing. Mine was under $20.00 I got mine at Harbor Freight.
I have a bounty of jalapeno's this year - I will be making cowboy candy and pepper jelly this weekend. Thank you for the inspiration. Because of your videos I have a pressure canner and dehydrator on order. Love your videos.
We L❤VE cowboy candy. Our favorite way is on burgers too. I gave a jar to a couple at church a couple of years ago. He and his son-in-law loved it so much, they bought jalapenos (out of our growing season) to make more. Now he plants plenty of jalapenos to put up jars and jars of it.
One thing I do with my onions, bell peppers and celery...I dice and flash freeze them on cookie sheets lined with parchment paper...each piece is indv. frozen and I put into gallon bags to lay flat in my freezer when done...they don't stick together and I can easily shake out the amount I want...you have a much larger garden than we do, so may be too much of an extra step to put in.. I did 18 gallon bags of diced onions...and it did take some time...but I do cook a lot with onions as well as bell pepper and celery...I am wondering if I could make an orange marmalade and add the jalapenos like the syrup and can? We would have to remove the seeds, but enjoy a bit of heat...Sarah, you are looking so great and know you are also still taking it slow...prayers for a complete heal! God Bless!
I make the cowboy candy and we love it. Peppers look awesome. Pray you are healing well. God Bless you all. Pray Kevin’s parents arrive safely and healthy.
I put it on steaks from the grill too, I have been canning so much already this year, tomatoes, pickles, okra, squash, corn, peppers, etc, this year I think we are gonna be canning so much more than previous years, I’ve already put so many jars of jam, and jelly,I’ve come strawberries, blueberries, and now my gooseberry bushes, and I think my peach trees will be ready this week,I’ve also froze a bunch too, , have fun, ❤️❤️❤️🌺🌺🌺🌹🌹🌹

Cowboy candy looks yum. So do those peppers. Those bell peppers were massive already.
Loved this as I miss what used to be a yearly thing for me. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💚❤️🥰🤗
Thank you for showing me how to make cowboy candy in such a step by step way. I think I can tackle this project now.
Stuff peppers and bell peppers are delicious. Slice bell peppers baked on meats are good.I just 💘 them.
Beautiful garden...beautiful produce! Great hat!!!
I am drinking coffee watching too. After this I'm hoping my other favorite farmers have a video up too. The deep south homestead
Whippoorwill Hollow is amazing also.
Cowboy candy is awesome on a fresh salad!!!
Watched this the day it posted. Harvested about 2lbs of jalepenos today, so they are in the water bath now. Excited to try them. I would think a pork roast in the crock pot would be amazing.
Beautiful peppers and jalapenos!!
You have such a beautiful organized garden!!!!
When Sarah talks about Cowboy Candies a german thinks of a Candystore with Haribo and such things like that, now i know what she is talking about, and yes Kevin put these Candies on your Burger and make one for me to please, but dont forget the Bacon
Greetings from Germany
😂😂😂😂😂😂I can imagine the visuals you got concerning the Cowboy candy!!! Here's a nice little recipe for you. It's called Cowboy Ice cream Sunday......its actually really really good... .give it a try.

There it is......Cowboy Ice cream Sunday.....
It must be so exciting for Kevun and Sarah to see that their channel is watched around the world. Wow. Good morning to you in Germany.
@@beautifuldreamer3991 i think i will give Cowboy ice cream a chance, because there is bacon in that, can´t be wrong 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@beckykukoski8678 i was looking for a Tomatorecipe, and felt over Sarah´s canning video, and i was so impressed from that Video that i subscribed them straight away. My english is not the best but i understand nearly everything because both of them speak so clearly. Good afternoon were ever you live.
Revisiting this episode as I'm making my 2021 batch of cowboy candy! Cheers!
I just hot water bath canned for the first time making your cowboy candy recipe. Thank you so much for taking the fear out of that!
Good morning 🌞Have a blessed day to you all. It’s a nice day. So beautiful plants.
I love to hear the popping of my canned goods. Cowboy candy is something we will definitely have to try. A favorite in our house is Strawberry Jalapeno Jam.
Yummmm!! Do you have a recipe that you can share?
We love these on a hot dog.
The garden looks so BEAUTIFUL! My mouth was watering looking at all those yummy veggies, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE, fried green tomatoes! Yum. The cowboy candy sounds wonderful on top of cream cheese and crackers. 😋😋😋😋😋
Debra! fried green tomatoes are about my favorite
Always reminds me of my sweet sweet momma.
We love any kind of pepper jelly on a cracker with pimento cheese. So good.
Yum sounds great 😂
Yes the California Wonder is favorite for years.
Can’t wait for the family to try it and to start canning it!
we core our bell peppers and freeze them whole for stuffed peppers during the winter
Same
That's cool! Never thought of that good idea.
Do you need to blanch them to do this?
@@jessicah2345 we never have just cored and rinsed
Jessica H no cut off top deseed and throw them in a freezer bag. I stuff them frozen when i make stuffed peppers. Turn out great. Have been doing it for 35 years.
These are so delish as a bite along with cornbread or corn pudding! ♥️
I like to use goat cheese and yogurt to make several things like sour cream and cream cheese by letting the whey drip out to the dryness I like.
Heyitsme...I'll try to screenshot it and share😊
Rose Jafari I'll have to try venturing into making cream cheese. I do make my own organic soy yogurt so it's a possibility I could make cream cheese with it
@heyitsme my sister just requested this recipe and I suddenly remembered I was supposed to give it to you also.

Stuffed peppers for dinner tonight???? Excuse me while I drool🤣🤣😋
I swear I could smell those while you were cutting them up LOL nice job they look delicious!
Love cowboy candy!!!! Yummmm!
When he has the remote, he knows exactly how to find "Kevin and Sarah".
that's adorable
That's so sweet...a new generation watching this great channel! 🤗
My cowboy candy are in their water bath as I write. You are such an inspiration. TY
I must say Sarah, the start of the video with you walking barefoot in your garden was really pretty.
Yes they are good roast in the oven or wrap up on a grill.
Good video and best of all you are back from your operation and doing well.
Hello Kiddos!! your Garden look's Beautiful !!! so Blessed ...the old Marine Homestead. God Bless..
I made and tasted Cowboy Candy for the first time today. Oh My! Thanks for the recipe!
Love your videos I always find them interesting thanks
Sarah,I really like your channel. I have picked up good tips from watching your channel. Made your cowboy candy , turned out great.I added a yellow, red, &orange bell peppers, 1 onions and some banana peppers to the mix. we all liked it. big hit with my brothers.thanks!!
Your garden is beautiful!
Wow wonderful gardens 😊👍👍👍
I think I would add a tsp of salt to the syrup. Just to bring out all the flavours
This looks like another winner! I know my latino husband will love these! Thanks for sharing your recipe and clear guidance!
I love candied jalapeno. I bought a pint jar for $8.00 before I decided to make my own. Even with buying the jalapenos I can make a pint for about a dollar. I love them on cream cheese and they are great with any barbeque.
The opening images and sounds made me happy - i love being in such a lovely garden! I wonder how this would taste with the nadapeno’s?
I love watching your channel it makes me happy.
This video is full of wonderful goodness!!!
Glad to have this step by step direction! Thanks! That syrup might make yummy jelly
I'm sitting here thinking about stuffed Jalapenos with cream cheese😋 thank you Sarah for another wonderful video🥰💐🌷
@@barbaradumler6503 Thank You - Great Tip!!!
So happy to have this recipe.
God Bless!
All your peppers look amazing! The Cowboy Candy recipe looks amazing. I will have to write it down. Thank you.
I make the cowboy candy and we love it. Peppers look awesome. Pray you are healing well. God Bless you all. Pray Kevin’s parents arrive safely and healthy.
My favorite way to eat... on my salads👌
Always excited to see the box pop up saying you posted a new video.
