I'm really trying to decide between getting the Oberheim Two Voice Pro or two ARP Odyssey modules and an external sequencer. SEMs are expensive but there's just something about that sound.
Get the Two voice pro or at least the SEM Pro. These youtube videos do not even scratch the rabbithole of sound you will enter when you get one. It is amazing.
RUclips mutilates the audio. If you heard one in person and were able to A/B them, you'd find the SEM has a lot more fidelity and a cleaner audio path. Plus, nothing can really replicate that filter very well. They're apples and oranges really.
@TR0jAX Hmm...not to me-not really-maybe you mean similar type sounds... because I own both oberheim and pro one and the type sounds you can get with either synth is similar but the tone is completely different..meaning the pro-one as being more warm and cozy-more punch and prophet/moog-like..the SEM being more raw and gritty sounding due to the difference in the filters 24pole vs 12pole...but I know what you mean. Both synths are capable of so many sonic possibilities!I love them both..
I would but unfortunately I don't have access to the SEM anymore (I moved to the US and left the SEM back home). But if I ever get it back I'll def pair them up!
I could be wrong but I believe the only thing you'd lose is the built in MIDI-to-CV converter as well as the relevant settings associated to that. So basically if you look at a picture of the SEM Pro, if you don't need any of the stuff on the left side then the patch panel is all you need. You can always add MIDI via something like a Kenton converter later if you want.
+once upon a synth so basically, it is best to get the patch panel vs the midi cv, thanks will look into the Kenton . Also need to understand fm, and triggering synth via patch cable, I have a moog minitaur and a bass station and virus access snow, wondering if any those synth can cv trigger the patch sem.
Yeah so there are 3 SEMs: MIDI, Patch and Pro. MIDI only has MIDI, Patch only has Patch and the Pro has both MIDI and Patch. If you need the convenience of MIDI then the Pro might make more sense because the kenton converter is 235$ so if you add that to the cost of the patch one you basically have a pro. But if you'll be using a keyboard or sequencer that can output CV/Gate then you don't need MIDI.
Thanks you so much, so i have done some searching and understand better what midi to cv, they is the akai max 25 or 49 and other one like future retro as well, but i am not too exciting putting down $500 for keyboard, i am down to looking at the moog mother board which sells around $ 500 that seems to send midi to cv out , that way i would have best of both world with the patch panel of the sem, but not sure if i am correct yet? what do you think?
I don't have a mother 32, but it looks like it would pair nicely with the SEM and you can use the mother 32 as a MIDI-to-CV converter too so you can use a MIDI keyboard to control it as well as the SEM. The mother 32 also has lots more CV jacks so that should be good too.
Never heard anything pure like this...so AMAZING!
It sounds absolutely phenomenal !!
I'd like to see how the DSI OB6 compares to this.
sounds amazing
this is a BEAST of a monosynth...
sick video man. inspiring me to pull the trig

Why not get an ARP Odyssey keyboard and a SEM module? Best of both worlds :)
LOL

VIDEOSUPERHIGHWAY Unfortunately Tom cased production :( My TVS Order was cancelled and they broke the news to me.
@cardinalvincent yes, yes it does :)
That filter is so juicy i actually want to eat it !!!!
lol

Do you still have your SEM or have you moved on? Nothing else really sounds quite like this...

I will get one very soon... :D
Can we get the SEM with the Elektron Analog Drive?
I would but unfortunately I don't have access to the SEM anymore (I moved to the US and left the SEM back home). But if I ever get it back I'll def pair them up!
Sweet!
Time capsule! I would like to re request the SEM Analog Drive will it pair :)
i am lost! if i am getting the patch pannel and not the pro what i am loosing exactly?
