I was present at that performance in Paris in December of 1999. It was a spectacular moment I whish everybody could live. Borned in Brussels, her father was belgian, her mother italian. She lived her 5 first years in Sicily and then came back in Brussels where she learned singing in the "Conservatoire Royal". Not really. I think it's the vowel production and the belting that can make people say that sometimes. The depth and colors of their voices are pretty different to my ears. Granted, Dion is not usually to my taste, whereas Fabian is the ONLY soprano who has ever hit my neural net like liquid velvet.

In fact, she is belgian born ;) and got the canadian nationality only around her twenties.
She grew up in Belgium and only moved to Canada in her early 20s. She's kind of moved back and forth ever since, but she's both Belgian and Canadian.

Lara Fabian is not french, she is belgian, like Stromae, Loïc Nottet and others, but she speaks french like more than 4 millions other belgians. Borned in Brussels, her father was belgian, her mother italian. She lived her 5 first years in Sicily and then came back in Brussels where she learned singing in the "Conservatoire Royal". In 1991 she went in Canada (where she gets also canadian nationality) until 1996 back in Belgium. It seems a detail but what woukd you say if Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson... were said english singers ?
This performance ranks within my top 5 ever performances. There is a version with english subtitles on youtube. I always enjoy your reactions. If i may suggest another singer, Floor Jansen. She is the frontwoman of Nightwish and was on a Dutch tv show called Beste Zangers. Basically all of her performances on there are amazing.

Not really. I think it's the vowel production and the belting that can make people say that sometimes.
The depth and colors of their voices are pretty different to my ears. Granted, Dion is not usually to my taste, whereas Fabian is the ONLY soprano who has ever hit my neural net like liquid velvet.
Except.... a 1000 times better 😊
