Coups, were absent for the most recent concerts, and the team had to do this entire part without them, leaving space for them as if they were there leading the way. It honestly was kind of emotional when they did it, because no one covered their vocals on that part. So it was like their presence was still made known.
This choreo made me tear up when I watched saw for the first time, from the beginning and until the end. Nothing felt off/too much, every move SPEAKS for the song. I think that’s why this is one of the most impactful Seventeen choreos, a cultural reset for sure
I’m pretty sure Choi young joon (from street man fighter season 1 from team 1 million) helped choreograph this dance as he is seventeens main choreographer and he participates in all of their choreos, and hoshi main dancer helped aswell
OMG YES FINALLY!! this is iconic, they talked about this choreo so much, I think this was also the first time they won an award for their choreography. I think Seventeen grew pretty consistently so they didn't exactly have one song where they blew up but if I had to chose one for that it would be this one. As for Anthony Lee, I tried to google him and seventeen in conjunction and couldn't find anything, maybe they just took inspiration, Hoshi talked a lot about taking part in the choreographing when it came out maybe he took a bigger role than usual and sinse he's more inexperienced he might have been at a stage where he was taking a lot of inspiration from different choreographers, I know for sure his dancing was pretty different back then. He didn't choreograph this on his own though so it's possible that Anthony did take part in it and I just couldn't find it. I really wish Choreographers got paid more like producers did rather than just once for the choreo itself so looking this up would be easier haha, when you wanna know who wrote a song you just go to the KOMCA website or even easier to wikipedia, but for choreo it's a lot harder.
Album credits for A1 are Performance Unit, Choi Youngjun and Yoon Hyelim again.Seventeen have largely stuck with the same choreographers for their entire careers - other people didn't start contributing until Heng:garae (June 2020) and the first and most frequent contributors are from Choi Youngjun's crew Team SAME. If Kinjaz did contribute to DWC, no one talked about it. The only Seventeen credit I can find for them is Keone Madrid for Ready to Love (with Choi Youngjun).
I think Hoshi and Choi Young Joon from Street Man Fighter choregraphed this one. I remember Hoshi talked about this choreo in an interview. As far as I remember, they even show the behind the scenes of this masterpiece. Hoshi had some notes creating their formations and stuff.
funny you should mention Anthony Lee. SEVENTEEN's choreo, I would say, is completely homegrown. Mr Choi Young Jun has been working with them for the longest time. I went into kpop following Chris Martin, when he choreo-ed a little bit of BTS's DNA along with Keone Madrid. I found SEVENTEEN's choreo impressive and found out it was from a Korean choreographer, with Hoshi helping as well. Some of their choreos I like include Fear (I fell in love with Fear because musicality), Falling Flower, Without You and many others. But wow, great analysis. Im still unsure as to what you mean by them having loose range though. I like that you mentioned they have great features. I think SEVENTEEN is one of the few groups who can make small gestures seem bigger than they are and it works in their favour. Even just highlighting a member who's singing by merely walking is not being done enough in kpop, I feel.
Thank you so much for the extra insight and to better explain “range” it has more to do with the duration of the movement vs the movement itself! It’s a way trickier thing to clean but the fact that range is the main cleaning suggestion showcases how freaking great they are at group choreo!!
