Runehammer & Dungeoncraft have helped me crystallize my inner RPG heretic and I’m a far better game designer and GM for it. I’m not particularly familiar (yet) with Scotty beyond a handful of craft videos I’ve watched over the years, but I feel compelled to give him a closer look.
This excitement is the most awesome thing about being a creator. None of the normies get it. I deeply relate to this, and it's very hard if you don't have a circle of people that get excited with you. My group are very patient playtesters who have suffered through my ever evolving system that recently switched over to a D20 thing. They're good at that, bearing this aggravation, but I get zero feedback on new concepts and just have to gauge things by how they turn out. It's channels like yours that keep me from getting frustrated because I don't have any other creatives in my life and my social skills are skittish at best. Thanks for making some of the best, and most inspiring content out there Hank of many names. I just hope you know how much good you are really putting out there man.
Creating something is the main thing. Every day I don't create something I feel emptier. Keep creating man!

Totally agree with your sentiments here! I had a good first impression of EZD6, but have moved away from it. That said, I'll totally grab the Book of Quests when it comes out, looking forward to it!

My 2 cents... all the bad happening with WOTC will only help strengthen the hobby. It might not seem like it right now - I understand the OGL thing was threatening a lot of creators and it looked really bad when it happened - but moments like this are when creativity explodes. Look at all the new stuff that is coming out (1 million for Shadowdark - tip of the iceberg I think). You have people that were entrenched in D&D exploring other systems - in earnest - for the first time in years.
Something similar has happened a few times before. Back in the 80's with the fall of TSR, so many games came out. That is why I first started. Then when D&D 3.0 came out, it reawakened a hobby that had almost died. It's what helped me rediscover my passion for TTRPG's. And then when D&D lost its way with 4.0, we had another resurgence with so many interesting new gaming concepts. Powered by the Apocalypse (spiritual successor to Burning Wheel IMO) - I mention both of those games specifically because they had such innovative approaches to the game. It was something we needed and I don't think they would have reached as many people without WOTC (making both good decisions and bad ones).
These moments I feel are actually times of enlightenment. We are in another one of these periods. Embrace it, I say. Beautiful things will come out of this, of that I am certain.

It's too bad though because the system itself is solid. There can be no argument about it. If WotC didn't get puppeted by shareholders then it would be all we needed.

In the early days, he said he wouldn’t do Patreon because he didn’t like the exclusivity of it, so I went out of my way to buy a lot of the original ICRPG stuff to support him and his quest to keep it real. Flash forward several years and he’s hunkered down on Patreon, with only the occasional video here, usually when there’s a new release. I understand the need to change plans as things grow, but as an original supporter, I feel a little duped sometimes.
