They were indeed the Best Generation, whose sacrifice made possible the environment that enables the present generation to push forward on the path of human civilization.

“we’ll use real bombs and weapons to illustrate what our veterans went through” that alone deserves a sub from us all.

Man these guys have stories and stories I know they're not anything in the like fun or anything of the sort but to have that full of a life is all anyone could ask for in today's world it'd take 10-20 people to equal one of them as far as accomplishments where they've been what they've done what they've saw etc I know they paid for it dearly but I do think it's awesome that they can talk about it people need to know all this stuff and it needs to be documented as best as we can before they're all gone 😢

My Father born 1914 London he was there, Gold Beach, Caen, Falsie and so on into Germany.
He only spoke of the horrors if directly asked.
    Mostly he told funny stories.
How when short of ratios they pinched beer from the NAFI, how they went fishing with captured German explosives they'd been ordered to dispose of... How he 'acquired' a Jeep from the Americans and how useful it was.
He claimed the world speed record for turning a Jeep around having found himself and his sergeant in a Belgian village being feted by locals, then noticed Germans were drinking coffee the other side of the square...
He knew by sound who's guns were firing and a lot about booby traps...
He'd have agreed that street fighting was a "game of chance".
In Germany his roles included being made responsible for civilian labour in the Ruhr and cleaning up Belson.
Of the latter he said the British Army did everything it could and more and yet still, former inmates were dying 2 months after their liberation.

@@isabellebaubay3723 Your Question : My Father spoke of Canadian soldiers. He thought them among the very best troops in the world. He did not particularly mention French Canadians.

Thank you Gordon for answering me ! But did he spoke about Canadians being at Bergen-Belsen ? Because most of french Canadians also spoke a perfect common english (like my father did). So many times, it was nearly impossible to be recognized apart... I'am trying to learn about part of his regiment being there, going after to Berlin... Regards. @@gordonfrickers5592

I served and had the privilege to speak with many veterans who served in WW2 Now many look back and see the funny side in typical military fashion but with tears at the horrors. God bless them
