I like your goofiness, and appreciate your craftsmanship. I am a Lex Luthier also.
You made that dovetail neck joint look so easy
Thanks Robin! Plenty of practice...
Hi. I'm a retired carpenter and build acoustic guitars in my spare time now. I dont use a dovetail joint for my neck joint, I just use mortise and tenon, I cut the mortise by hand removing bulk with forstner bit then finish with micro saw and chisel then cut the neck tenon on table saw, making sure i get the angle correct, and they have been perfect every time. maybe one day i will make a jig and try a dovetail instead
This is the best guitar making channel on the planet. Live streams twice a week where all the steps in making a guitar are demystified, explained and demonstrated live. Many thanks to Mark and Carol!
Thanks Marcel - Glad you are enjoying the livestreams...more exciting stuff to come!! Cheers for the comment! 👍
Great job mark , pleasure to watch as usual 👍🏴

Cheers Theron we are powered by Liquor and PIES!! Livin the dream....😎
Great video , lots of good info here
Stumbled onto this site,Wow really good instructions, I am in the process of building and this is really helpful. THANKS
Very brave to do a dovetail live. Excellent tuition. Thank you.
You are very welcome
RouterCam was rather fun.... but I think I'll stick to bolt on when I come to building my acoustic!
Yes Bolt on neck is what I show on my course - it is much easier... Good luck when it happens - let us know how it goes!!
Great video... as always. :)
Thank you! Cheers!
Another fun video. Keep them coming Mark and Carol.
Thanks! Will do!
Brilliant session making a dovetail joint look easy!
Thank you! Cheers!
Another Great Video. Brave Man........but confidently done Mark. 🙂🙏🎸🎶
Cheers Russ! I've had some practice :)
Great show... Once again attention to detail is fab...
Glad you enjoyed it !!
Brilliant - doing a dovetail neck joint on a live stream - very brave!
Brave or stupid? Was a lot of fun tho!! Just to prove that even an idiot can do it :)
Excellent live stream today, first I’ve missed for a while but caught it later on, very brave doing that live! Thanks Mark and Carol for sharing your knowledge and experience. Much appreciated.
Very welcome
Awesome on so many levels!
Glad you think so!
I missed the live stream but I always watch them later. This one was really good I learnt alot
Cheers Phant Glad you like them!
Thank you a lot for this exzellent video.
In the past I liked playing a guitar a lot more than building one. But a few self-made repairs to junk guitars sparked my interest in learning more about guitar making. It's a pleasure to watch and learn from a professional like you. My late stepfather left me so many woodworking machines and I am currently discovering the woodworm in me 😉
That doesn't mean that I'll start building guitars tomorrow, but there are so many useful tricks in this video that are also suitable for other purposes. I wish you continued success and keep on rockin '. Best regards from Germany :-)
Hi Carol and Mark! Another great video, but I'll definitely be doing a bolt on for my build, you're a braver (crazier) man than me doing that cut live. Nice job.
Yup bolt on is best for beginner - that is my advice - glad you enjoyed the video!! it was very scary...
A really interesting session today, this will come in handy when I eventually get around to building an acoustic (not yet though, too many electrics to make 😁). Really impressive jigs as well. Guitar building is such a great obsession to have and a great way of life, perfect for me. You have made all of this possible Mark Bailey, joining the Guitar Making community on your website and having access to all the video lessons as a Premium Member is one of the best things I’ve ever done online. You are a life saver. You have my eternal thanks. 👍
Cheers Boo! I feel the same about our fantastic Guitar Making community !!
Well, I find your website forum that good, I'm nearly at 10,000 points at the top of the leader board. Not that that is a major achievement but it shows I am there a lot contributing to an amazing community. 👍
@@johnniemnemonic73 Cheers Boo - A community is only as good as its members and ours are the best!! Both me and Carol feel very lucky to be part of it...
how do you get the base of the neck to be flush with the body if there's a gap?
Another great video from Mark making a difficult job look easy again. Sorry I missed the live stream watching later on.
Thanks 👍The Jig is the trick!!
Guitar Making looks like another project for Darren
I have a question why don't to begin with why not just a pocket then calculated wedges 4 adjustments and inserts to cure the problem with neck resets down the road
Enjoyed that...you need to sell dovetail templates/jig
I think Darren is working on it :)
bolt on or set neck for acoustic guitar? pros and cons?
That was an incredible stream - particularly the close up views of making that dovetail joint. You're mad taking that on, live, without the safety net!! Congrats on taking it on, and the perfect joint achieved.
Yeah - came out dead on! Bit scary with y'all watching :) I think some patience required when I'm moving the camera and the lighting needs improving but we are working on it! Cheers for the comment :)
thank you. on the cracks, in metal i know you drill a hole at the end of the crack to stop the crack rom migration . why is that not done on wood ? the hole could be filled with a toothpick .
Excellent point - THANKS! That is quite right for metal. But with wood it is better to glue a brace across the crack (on the inside) to stop it spreading - there is no need to remove any more wood. Drilling a hole and filling it would leave more visible signs of repair - a glued up crack is virtually invisible.
@@GuitarMaking thank you
Do you sell plans for your dovetail jigs for holding the body and neck?
Not yet - sorry!
@@MarkBaileyGuitars not a problem. Thank you for sharing the video
I know you can’t help it but my god there were a lot of adverts during this video....very disruptive to the flow
That is strange - I guess they thought they could get away with showing you more than usual??... maybe time for adblocker!
@@GuitarMaking no word of a lie there must have been 20 adverts...I’ve never seen so many in a video before
@@Barrygee I can only apologise for RUclipss overzealousness...TBH I think the glory days of RUclips are over - we'll see...they could also pull the plug on anyone at any time...that is why I have set up the Guitar Making Academy website and host most of my videos there...it is pay to view but there are zero ads...guitarmaking.co.uk/
