Another fantastic video. I like the new format. work for a bit... talk for a bit. It works. :)
These videos are great - watching an acoustic guitar coming together, stage by stage, I almost believe I could build one myself!
Go for it!
This is a great video. Really inspiring. 🎶🎸🙏🙂
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for your replies and advice Mark. I was just wondering how the side rims at the back can be radiused without having a dish. I'll be signing up with you soon, and placing an order for materials etc. Meanwhile, a Happy New Year to you both from Mallorca, Steve
It is not as hard as you might think...There is a section called 'Assemble the Body' (guitarmaking.co.uk/modules/assemble-the-body/?course_id=1614) that explains everything, starting here (guitarmaking.co.uk/lesson/mark-the-heelblock-facet) - you will get access to this and all the others when you become a member (guitarmaking.co.uk/#learn) - it is all a lot easier when you follow it through step by step as the courses are laid out for you - at least that is the plan! Happy New Year to sunny Mallorca from sunny Scotland :P
Hi. Regards radiusing the back, although the shaped braces will dish the back from side to side only, the radius dish wiill make the radius legnthways too. Withour having a dish how will tbe back emd up being radiused ? TIA
Yes - these are important details - incidentally, it doesn't matter if you have radius dishes or not.
For the BACK only: The rim of the sides is shaped into a radius to make the 'dome' shape
Using my methods you can (if you have one) use a radius dish to shape the back but not the front. Standard acoustic guitars are sometimes called 'flat tops' : The soundboard is gently curved but the rims of the sides are flat around the top - hence the name...
Just to add a bit more complication: The soundboard can be built on a radius dish (i.e. in a gobar deck) as it is curved (despite being called a flat top)
hope that makes sense?
now with the rock pile 99 's neck
now with the rock pile 99 's neck can he do a small skunk stripe?
Hi. Great video. So the guitar is actually flat along its centre line section, and the body can't be radiused in a go bar as it wouldn't fit the top ?
Wonderful question! The best answer is to continue watching and all will be revealed (hopefully!)...short answer: the back is radiused/shaped both ways (kind of domed) - the front is a curved soundboard glued to flat edges (if you see what I mean?)...should be clearer the more you watch...for higher quality videos and quicker answers you need to join up and become a member of the best website on the planet!! guitarmaking.co.uk/#learn
