If tourists are overstaying their visas, there has to be consequences! We as South Africans cannot even go on vacation in their countries without rigorous and expensive visa applications but when it comes to SA its a free for all.

Mr Mpofu should be in custody as we speak. The use of fraudulent South African documents internationally is alarming and harming the country. Due diligence on the issuing of documents in Home Affairs should be given priority status and a special unit should established for this cause.

I am South African citizen. My foreign family had to visit home affairs every 2 weeks to get that expiration receipt stamped by a home affairs officer for 2YEARS! The cost of travel plus the cost of having to reapply for their visas 3 TIMES because paper work kept being lost eventually resulted in us moving back to the UK and taking our tax revenue with us plus all the revenue that would have been generated by our foreign friends and family coming to visit us in SA. I would love to see a study on the amount of revenue that gets lost due to home affairs being broken. Funny how undocumented people can just stay and don't suffer the same consequences.

They're meant to ensure order and respect for the laws of South Africa. It is therefore hoped that these actions continue until law and order is maintained.

For instance, if the department typically takes 7 working days to approve a visa extension, all extension requests must be submitted at least 7 days before the original visa expires. If you apply for an extension less than 7 days before your visa expiry and the department does not approve it in time, your receipt should not act as an extension. It should only become an extension if the department fails to approve the visa within the 7-day window.
Lol even in Canada or the Us your receipt is proof of your extension of visa if the immigration office fails to extend your visa on their end. If they do not approve it they must provide lawful explaination why they did not approve it and you have the right to appeal. It shows that you know zero aboout immigration matters educate yourself and try to travel more. The immigration system of South Africa biased especially against black african foreigners

My mum could not collect her grant because somebody else had her ID number and they were collecting it. It took months before it could be traced and proved. That is not a fair thing to happen to old people.
The best way is to take this to locals. First we need to calculate how many foreign nationals in our communities and submit to home affairs. Each province should start forming teams in each district to identify all foreign nationals regardless documented and not documented. We will gather how many foreigners. Secondly go to all these supermarkets and calculate how many foreigners. That’s how home affairs can form plan and strategies to deal with this mess. The minister can’t win this alone. It’s mess. Many foreigners are already having permanent residence, I’ds, passports. Even the landlords and companies contributed in this mess.

There is one more thing i forgot to mention. I was surprised and shocked to notice the silence in the press conference room, after Mr Motswaledi's crucial speech, or maybe was i the only one who noticed that?, as the silence to me was like there are maybe coupler men entering the door carrying a well regarded senior personnel's coffin, with a corpes in it,but on second thought i said that, maybe many of the senior members in the seminar are the ones who are enjoying taking part in such activities, as Mr Motswaledi's speech had revealed their evil secret actions, following the investigation results, as they are now deep thinking that they might also be locked in prison, while the South African law abiding community knows that it is not a matter of might or might not, because behind the bar it is exactly where they belong. The only question left is, when is that going to happen, as they all think, the sooner, the better.
I had a colleague from another African country who was in South Africa legally. EVERY SINGLE time that he went to SA home affairs to attempt extending his working visa, he was made to wait in a queue for more than a day, and EVERY SINGLE official he dealt with, threatened and tried to extract a bribe from him. Rotten to the core.
