    Fantastic Video, Well done. Amazing & Innovative Projects! Wow! I've been using a table saw for a very long time... I'm a tradesman, and I'm definitely not a Safety Nerd. After a few rare, but exciting incidents, in my shop many years ago... I realized I wasn't smart, I was simply just very lucky... About fifteen years ago, I opted to prioritize safety my home shop. Today, I'm much safer, and I still enjoy my home workshop, and I can still count to Ten! :-) Josh, I'm now both an avid fan and new subscriber. I truly plan to watch many of your other great videos. You are a very smart fellow... I love the Barrell & much more! With all politeness and respect: I cringed many times when you made a cuts.

    As someone who has had 3 ER visits after trying to be careful I agree with Brian some safety measures are in order. Invest in a Gripper and a zero clearance insert. I cringed every time I saw those thin pieces sneak down the insert plate. Don't reach over the blade to grab a cut off, that was one of my ER visits.

      As a person who hasn't used a table saw I need to know, if these safety devices are essential why aren't they supplied as standard by saw manufacturers? I am thinking of buying a saw but would never have know I need these extras.

    • @TXstang347
      @TXstang347 2 года назад +1

      @@woody1380 The more money you spend the more "features" they offer. Dewalt is a good saw, but that's a contractor saw which is intended for construction, ripping 2x4s etc. He does a lot of risky stuff on the saw. You can tell he's never had a close call yet. Interesting that he wears ear, eye, nose protection, but plays it loose with the saw lol. Search for table saw safety and watch those videos. Even expensive saws don't come with everything you make like. Also, be aware of kickback and how to prevent it.

    Just a suggestion, since i don't see a dust collector: Invest in an air compressor with nozzle to clear out the collected dust and shavings in your tools. You can pick them up used for a fairly reasonable price.
    Now that I think about it, I think Matthias Wandel has videos for a few varieties that you could make for yourself, your skills certainly seem up to the challenge.
    Aside from keeping the shop "tidy" it also keeps your tools from overheating (clogged air flow), breaking down (gunking up moving parts can lead to wobble, jammed bearings and increasingly inaccurate cuts), rust - dust is a moisture magnet and is a safer work space too.
    I had a teacher lose most of his pinky when he was batching out a bunch of parts for a student project but didn't turn on the dust collector (in a hurry likely - teachers get too little prep time for practical related classes, unless they take their own -unpaid- time). Dipped his pinky into the blade of the jointer when the piece slicked through the dust faster than it should have.
    Heh, sorry, lecture over.
    I loved the barrel idea. Hmm.
    Great ideas and keep up the work!

      Saw dust IS HIGHLY FLAMMABLE, especially if gets in your wall electrical outlets and you plug something in and causes a spark. Brother's Texas high school woodworking shop went up in flames back in the 80's. Cause was the saw dust in outlets due to inefficient dust collection system.

    Have to add my voice to a few others below. I really appreciate projects like the barrel being so thoroughly demonstrated so I can duplicate it and not have to work out any of the settings. That said, the practice of cross cutting 2x4s or 2x6 on a table saw pinched against the fence when you clearly have a miter saw available for that purpose just scares the living stuff out of me. If you didn't have a miter saw I could understand it but not when a vastly safer tool is right there. I run a custom commercial furniture shop (reception stations, conference tables, etc.) so I know you can do precise dimensional repeated cuts on that miter saw. Other than that, really nice videos.

    Dig the barrel and the nested bowls. Even though you've read it many times already, add my voice to the chorus about your table saw technique. Mostly for your own safety, but also because many newbie woodworkers turn to RUclips to learn. It would be terrible to learn that someone got hurt using a technique you showed them.

      Agreed :-) Meanwhile a cheap 24"x24"x5" Box Fan, with a 24x24x1 Fiberglass-cardboard furnace Air Filter, does an amazing job of controlling Shop Dust. If the filter is re-enforced with Blue Painters Tape... it can be cleaned & reused many times.

    The next item you should make from a 2x6 is a wooden mallet, for your shop. ;-)

    • @thomasarussellsr
      @thomasarussellsr 3 года назад

      A wooden mallet and a crosscut sled. If the sled is built right, it can serve as an angle sled too. Check out many YT videos before copying one or designing your own. (HINT: Look back through "The Rebel Turner" he has one with a scale for compound angle cuts built in to the sled). If that is the direction you wish to go. If strictly a 90° sled, then there are many that show you the simple math to make sure it is square to the blade and even how to add a removable key for finger joints for box building.

    Well he has talent great looking items ..seen a lot of comments about his way to use the tablesaw I hope the young man listens to some of it ..but I think for me was his lack of house cleaning ..I had a personal friend slip on some sawdust hit head on corner of table saw ..go see him every year now and reflect on the great times we had

    You are young and obviously enjoy working with wood and it's therapeutic advantage's are a great way to relax while making a few £££s
    You have the desire and the tools to grow into something more technical and I hope you do so..
    Only thing that I am a bit concerned about is your safety skills..you should get yourself into a little college course to brush up and make things a little sharper around you..
    It's a work in progress 'so keep it up and you will become successful in the trade.
    Just keep on learning young man and good luck with your future..
    Ps..please look up safety skills on your table saw and also how to hold your tenon saw correctly with your index finger as a guide and a good joiner always has a tidy work space!!
    You will get there though!
    Patience is a virtue!!

    Dear young man, the quality, finish and safety of your work is up to the maintenance of your equipment and the cleanliness of your tools and your workshop, too bad because it seems that you have equipment that many craftsmen would envy you because expensive to my taste for a young goujat like you. I give you the score of 8/20 and I am generous!

    In Germany we have little 5liter beer barrels/cans with outlets, these would fit into your woodbarrel

    • @JoshWrightWoodworking
      @JoshWrightWoodworking  3 года назад +2

      Five liters would probably be too much, you would have to make it bigger, this Barrel holds a standard 3 liter wine bag.

      @@JoshWrightWoodworking ngl if I made this barrel I'd probably stain it and poly it and get an old spigot or cork for it so I could just fill it with mead and use it as my own little mead barrel
