What an excellent acceptance speech. Each word sentence is loud and clear to promote harmony, understanding and unity among citizens. He sounds very humble, sincere, professional and with dignity. I commend his achievements, He is a true example of a statesman every country should have. Kudos Singapore for electing him.
Impressed. Tharman, spoke for all of Singapore including on behalf of the Prime Minister. Part of his speech was more of a Singapore position with regards to world affairs. My prayers for Tharman's good health, wisdom and energy.

Well over 70% of Singaporeans voted for our new President Tharman, technically than we the citizens of Singapore is the boss of Tharman and he is working for us Singaporeans right!
So the argument that he is from a political party which he has left does not really hold water because they are not his boss now.
Another plus is since he knows his fellow colleagues from the government and civil sector its actually strengthens his role as a President which over 70% of Singaporean fully supported this argument.
The arguments of true-born Singaporean and party affiliations rings hollow because it neglects the quality of the person, his/her moral fiber and independence thinking and instead trivialize and narrows the choice towards an emotional argument which is never a good thing for rational and critical thinking!
Thank god for the smarter IQ of more than 70% Singaporeans making the right decision and choice.
But the smarter IQ people wants a president for the People not a balls carrier or puppet In string😂 70% voted for his popularity is not endorsement 😂 the PaP made presidential criteria so hard that common people or those who had credibility can't qualified example like George goh😂 that election was more like selected choices that peoples had no choice to vote yes some voted for others but they are not heavyweight try put Prtiam singh or LtK or JB jeyaratnam in 😂PAP are not up to standard as LKy after he pass away😂 also wait next GE . PaP has,also corruption probe on going with own minister iswaran the people Singaporean are not blind😂 the opposition n will keep asking for answer 😂

@nicrome , just to state that we're using the National Language as the command call in the parade, the almost correct call of "President Elect" in Malay is "Presiden Dipilih".

May i ask, why in welcoming ceremony in front of palace guards, the guard lay the singapore flags on the ground? Just feel odd to me... Im Indonesian.
There are various salutes in the military. Hand salutes, rifle salute etc.
Those flags are Regimental Colors, and lowering the colors is the highest form of salute.
Oh, and the State colors are lowered only for the Head of State, ie the President.
