My dad worked for Robert Shelton he was a great man...Treated our family and many Others wee..I grew up on and around Old Tucson...my time line at 12yrs old Was with High Chaparral...cast and crew. Got to meet lots of movie stars..Even got To know some of them....Yes old Tucson Is a highway to heaven with a little house Thank you staff and crew of old Tucson.. I am an old man of 65.....thanks for the Memories all good ones...
I was there for Nightfall & it's nothing like this and was quite boring. Furthermore, after $70 for 2 tickets, $15 for a hamburger and $30 for a t-shirt, this is my last visit. There was only 3 haunted walk throughs, train ride & carousel and not much else.
I had the pleasure to visit back in 1992. It was great experience to see the familiar western sets seen in so many movies. It looks like much has changed because of the fire. I was up in the mountains overlooking to desert and town. It was an adventure.
I tried so hard to find some of the ranch house's in the Duke's Movie's, for idea's on google searches for my dream ranch houses, It seems like I can't find most of them from "The War Wagon", "Rio Lobo", "Rio Bravo", "El Dorado", & "The Son's of Katie Elder". They're hard to find pictures for referencing, for designing a Log & Adobe style ranch house & barn. I literally feel like all the history in those scenes may be lost in to time, except in the Movie's that they're in. Old Tucson Studios, Pioneertown, Calico Ghost Town, and place's like that bring out the kid in me, by day dreaming about how much I love everything about the old west.
My family visited Old Tucson in 1983 on a vacation back to Texas from visiting California where i was born.At 13 years old it was Awesome!!! At 50 now id love to go see it again in 2020.Thank you and love your vids.God bless from Texas!!!😎
@@mikewatkins4385 About half of the original sets not longer exist. What was added back on takes up about 75% of that property and was build full size and simplified for tourism. Not of these new building have any correlation to the original sets, it's just "town". There major focus these days is generalized historical western history and the Halloween event Nightfall...
While visiting Tucson I went here with my children and girlfriend.. I really had a great time.. we watched a stint show , went behind the scenes , took a train ride and stagecoach ride .
My wife was in McClintock when she was about 9 yo. She was paired up with John Waynes daughter who was about the same age. Both appeared often in the street chase scenes.
We lived in Tucson when I was a kid and my parents would go to Old Tucson or Nogales every weekend, I barely remember I was born in 1965 .But I do have photos in photo albums from Old Tucson and my dad played extras in a couple movies 1970 -71
Best video so far with much information ,was happy to see Westerns made here. Some of the movies I've seen . It'd been easier to follow with movie scene with studio location .( For people like me from India). Thanks for a fantastic video.
I lived in Tucson until I was 10, left around 87-88. I have a great picture of my mother and me sitting next to a wooden indian statue. There is a sign in the back with all the nearby locations, Cantina Rio Lobo, High Chaparral etc. I wonder if it is still there. I believe there was a fire at one time. Great memories.
10:49 How did they get the Reno to move like that? Because I'm pretty sure it wasn't running under it's own steam. Also, I think someday they should donate the locomotive to the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City, seeing the state it's in these days.
I was there in 2015...The Reno was severely damaged in the 1995 fire....It was functional in the move Tombstone in 1993....I agree, let someone have it who will fix it....It's in bad shape.....
I lived in Tucson 4 years and visited Old Tucson many times didn't cost me anything as I knew the guard plus knew the actors then that was in the 70's. Tucson has changed so much through the years. Old Tucson fire was set on fire deliberately. ruled arson, many costumes could not be replaced.
They say it was opened to the public in 1959. I remember going with my parents and my Dad taking 8mm movies of Chuck Connors while filming The Rifleman.
It is actually open again because of covid-19. I have a friend that lives not far from there and that is why it was closed. This the truth. I do keep in contact with him every 2 weeks.
RIP Old Tucson, Run into the ground by county government. Sell it off to private sector with stipulation that it remains the same type of business and watch it flourish.

Thanks for sharing & 65 doesn't sound "old" to me
Just got back from the old Tucson studios. It’s a shadow of what it once was. So much has been lost. So mush ☹️

My wife and I visited Old Tucson in March 2018. It was amazing and is a must visit for all true Western fans!
Hey what movies did they film at this location? Did they do Rio Bravo there?
@@cowabungakev
Rio Bravo, McClintock, El Dorado, Rio Lobo, Tombstone, Last Train to Gun Hill, Gunfight at the OK Corral and many more!
@@timandcelisaherrington7864 Wow Tim And Celisa. I wonder if we are able to touchdown in Tucson for a visit to Old Tuscan Studios?

This video is very cool. enjoyed its a lot. It’s nice to see the studio before the fire. And thanks again for sharing 👍👍
I really miss the old audience participation shows from when I was a kid. I remember this video from when I was a kid and th old bartender.
Hey, that's me as the director! Great times.

It was very awesome before the fire of 1995. I'm not sure how you will feel about it in 2020. Nevertheless thank you for your comment!
@@HEMPHILL23 Did the fire destroy much of it? I live in Phoenix and would love to go see it in a few weeks. H C was my favorite western growing up

They just closed it for good. No more old tucson, sadly.
Old Tucson is nothing like it was before it burned down in 1989

I wish to visit this place, I love westerns.
Pretty darn good.. love to get there some day
I agree
Me Concur!
Is 3 hours enough to appropriately visit the place?
Property is closed until a new lease can be made....
It's sad that it had to close. I hope developers don't get the land. But don't hold your breath.

There's something I'd like to know about western movies: Why does the cowboy's horse never get hurt or killed during a shootout?
Me parece o es SAM del gran Chaparral
Wow. I was only interested in the sets and the scenery. I didn't realize they had ruined it by turning it into Disneyland. Sad to see. :o(
..........wait What's wrong with Disneyland???

I thought Howard Hawks did Rio Bravo?
