Seth is such a good commentator. It’s rare to find someone with not only the technical knowledge, but also the ability to communicate well to a large audience. Awesome run!!
Awesome run. I've followed Seth from when he was primarily a Minecraft youtuber, and I know he's sort of been on the forefront of SMW Ace RTA stuff (with help from a lot of people who help find setups etc of course). Its awesome to see such an ambitious RTA attempt done live even if it failed. Luckally the backup Cart meant all the cool tech could still be shown off which is awesome.
The backup cart was hilarious, and that's a very cool exhibition. I wouldn't want to see this all the time, but on occasion the truly broken stuff is very cool
these tricks seem to need multiple people so it's not a sustainable concept nor something you can actually get a WR in so I'm sure these won't take over
The cartridge blow to fix the save file. The coordination between four people to make green goblin Mario teleport to the credits. The Super Mario Bros 3 skip that actually loads the last level of Super Mario Bros 2. This is one of the greatest runs ever!
Really amazing. I couldn't fathom or try to figure out how these amazing guys figure how to ultimately glitch a classic game without using a rom and using a classic snes with a classic mario game. Kudos guys.
This is my favorite ACE so far - every one of the 5 games has its own thing going on, from the Y position in SMB1 to the invalid level in SMB2, and it's only possible with the combination of two different games on the cart. Does anyone know how he accidentally got a second Yoshi in the first level? I only saw one pop out of the box.
I know this is from two months ago but I still wanna explain. At the beginning of the level, SethBling did a strat called fast yoshi where two yoshis are spawned at once. Because of that, there's an invisible Yoshi that he goes on as well as the visible one. Since Mario was knocked off of Yoshi by taking damage, he's still on the invisible one, and when the visible Yoshi despawns, the invisible Yoshi becomes a visible, functioning Yoshi.
I mean his Minecraft skin was Mario... his RUclips channel has some Mario speedruns... he was featured on a Mario video on Nintendo's RUclips channel...
honestly super bummed i couldn't catch this run live (i had work ew). sethbling is who first got me into speedrunning, way back when i was in middle school. now I'm an adult! with a job! that prevents me from catching incredibly nostalgic runs live...
Listening to the description of this run makes me think of really long Yu-Gi-Oh combo chains. It's just a bunch of arbitrary moves and then oh look, the game was won at some point.
Shame it didn't quite go as planned (but the unplanned is how GDQ rolls) but still an amazing run to completely destroy the games in a lovely chain! Shame it failed too, seeing this sort of previously TAS-level ACE done *real-time* on *actual hardware* is damn impressive!
Interesting how two of the four players are listed as on commentary rather than playing. I’ve only just started watching, so if they never actually use those controllers then I understand. Edit from after watching: Ok, so we had Dwango and GTAce holding constant buttons during the ACE, Iso changing the buttons during the ACE, and Seth actually playing the games. I feel like either Iso should have also been listed as commentary, or all of them should have been listed as playing.
The game was submitted with Seth and Iso as the runners. Dwango and GTAce were doing commentary, and presumably, since normally Seth would use clamps to hold inputs, he decided to hand the controllers over to Dwango and GTAce instead of that.
I’m confused, how are 4 players doing this glitch? If I recall correctly isn’t this game being ran on a SNES? If so they only can us two controllers right?
Thankfully, you don't figure it out by randomly pressing buttons until that happens. All you have to understand is how to change bytes. With a hex viewer it's actually pretty easy to find out what moves you have to make.
Obviously, but this is just for show. The real runs aren't done while presenting like this! He does also say at the end that it's not a legitimate run. But you can check his youtube channel for actually valid runs :)
Runner introduction starts at 1:21
Run starts at 3:27
Prizes start at 25:48
Commentary is provided by GTAce and DwangoAC
iggyzig is host
that backup cart swap was really funny
If you have to switch to a backup save, might as well do it in style lol. SethBling really got me there for a second
damn I really thought it just started working after he pulled it out, waved some air on it, and put it back xDD
Hearing that "Welcome back, Sethbling here." at sgdq was unexpected, but definitely welcome. Reminds me of 2013.
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
Watching Sethbling do all this mario stuff is like watching actual magicians do magic tricks
I used to watch him do Minecraft Redstone
Seth is such a good commentator. It’s rare to find someone with not only the technical knowledge, but also the ability to communicate well to a large audience. Awesome run!!
the man sethbling literally did his own intro in a GDQ, what a legend
Loved the cart swap. I always appreciate the effort put in to having a backup, even if it "invalidates" a run.
This Speedrun has the pacing and linear storytelling of the dreams I have

the fact that they do this all while explaining what happens is absolutely incredulous :O
So nostalgic, just how i played these games back in the days. Blasting some arbitary code executions after school with the bois.
Haha, same here, pixel and bit perfect everytime 😂😂
this was a fascinating run to watch C:
It's good to see SethBling. I've been watching his channel for a long time, so to finally see him at GDQ is great!
The backup cart was hilarious, and that's a very cool exhibition. I wouldn't want to see this all the time, but on occasion the truly broken stuff is very cool

Seth has done all of this himself in the past
The cartridge blow to fix the save file. The coordination between four people to make green goblin Mario teleport to the credits. The Super Mario Bros 3 skip that actually loads the last level of Super Mario Bros 2. This is one of the greatest runs ever!
Hearing "welcome back, Sethbling here" really takes me back. Nice job crushing this run!
That was astounding. Thanks so much for the amazing information and fun run!
Incredible stuff
That back up cart trick was funny, and it had me fooled, they shouldn’t have revealed the secret,
This is the nerdiest speedrun I have ever seen, and I love it.
There is such powerful dad energy in donating as "MC Bling Daddy"
i love gdq
I love the fact that Sethbling introduced himself like he does in his vids.
Watching Sethbling play minecraft here is like magic. Its almost like he coded the map to look exactly like a mario game.
I've been watching super mario speedruns for years but this was something else! Wicked
"Welcome back, SethBling here"
HE DID IT, HE SAID THE THING!
This run was amazing! Congrats to Sethbling, IsoFrieze, Dwangoac and Gtace!
The Go, go, go's made it sound like a damn space launch
This is the first time I see a duck bill style face mask, and I feel like I've been missing out.
They did a TAS trick, as human players, while narrating it.
Holy balls.
man, i havent heard "hey guys, sethbling here" in like 10 years. was definitely surprised to see this run on the list
This set of mario games ACE and TLOZ:OOT ACE are 🤯
Really amazing. I couldn't fathom or try to figure out how these amazing guys figure how to ultimately glitch a classic game without using a rom and using a classic snes with a classic mario game. Kudos guys.

Been watching for 9 years and every year, the runners surprise me
I love this run! So many legends in one place.
Haven't been able to attend any gdq events yet so these glimpses are a joy to see, hope to watch a run like this live someday
YAAAAAAYYY, That cartridge "blow" was the high of highest in this Speedrun. Just amazing.
I mean just.. what. the. fridge?! Amazing!
Welcome Back SB here was great to hear at SGDQ!
my brains...so confused xD
Ah darn, I was really hoping that reset actually worked lol
So glad Sethbling and crew got to run this though, even if a backup was needed!
That was wild. Very impressive commentary from sethbling!
How did he get Yoshi back from our of nowhere?
....SethBling? The minecraft RUclipsr?
I mean his Minecraft skin was Mario... his RUclips channel has some Mario speedruns... he was featured on a Mario video on Nintendo's RUclips channel...
yes, he is also an extremely good Mario speedrunner
Yep, he swapped to speedrunning content a while back
He's been trying to get SMW ACE into GDQ for a few years now
yes, the one who used to make magical stuff with armor stands in minecraft ^^
Everything is just going right over my head but it looks cool.
This was a super interesting run!
can someone explain where the first glitched yoshi came from at 4:32 ?
🤷🏻♂️
I use to watch sethbling way back in the day and my confusion and nostalgia of seeing him hit pretty hard
Sethbling?
*Checks old Minecraft handbooks
"neat"
When you need a PHD in computer science to do a run 😮
I don’t understand anything that’s happening but I’m very impressed
all I could think during this was the 1/2 a button press video
honestly super bummed i couldn't catch this run live (i had work ew). sethbling is who first got me into speedrunning, way back when i was in middle school. now I'm an adult! with a job! that prevents me from catching incredibly nostalgic runs live...
10:16 The number 1 GDQ speedrunning save right there
welcome back, sethbling here

How many Armor Stands did it take?
Interesting how two of the four players are listed as on commentary rather than playing. I’ve only just started watching, so if they never actually use those controllers then I understand.

SethBling is a fucking beast!!!
"Welcome Back, Sethbling Here" as his intro is such a good joke, that sadly only one dude in the crowd seemed to have gotten lmao.
I sit and wonder how much time it must have taken for the first guy who discovered this to get to that point. And also, HOW !!
This was such a brilliant run
Now we have a new name of Peach, Princess Glitch
I have absolutely no idea what this guy is talking about but it was cool to watch 😂
Im a simple guy. I see SethBling and GDQ, i click.
when the legends play together:
SETHBLING???
"Yeah! Ampersand!" XD
I haven’t heard from SethBling in a long time
I need to learn how to do this.
Has anybody ever gotten a reaction from the developers on this?
8:25 Huh, I don't remember this Rhythm Heaven minigame...
I’m confused, how are 4 players doing this glitch? If I recall correctly isn’t this game being ran on a SNES? If so they only can us two controllers right?
There were add-ons for the SNES that allowed more players. The Super Multitap was probably the most common and allowed support for up to 5 players.
1:28 he said the thing
How do people ever figure this stuff out
Remember when Seth was making gumball machines in Minecraft?
Why is Ocarina of Time music playing when they beat a game?
I feel like I'm being trolled and all of this was done on the PC. Who could have ever found this stuff out?
This is 100% wtf, awesome stuff
This version of SmW uses new Luigi sprites
I don't understand what happened, but it was epic anyways
How the hell do people figure this stuff out
I wonder everytime how somebody figured that out...
Thankfully, you don't figure it out by randomly pressing buttons until that happens. All you have to understand is how to change bytes. With a hex viewer it's actually pretty easy to find out what moves you have to make.
12:07 Kiss of Cthulhu
I KNOW THAT DUDE.
Holy fucking shit
That ace thingy is even more confusing when English is not ur main language…
Lol what a sneaky cartridge swap
I love this stuff. It’s absolute wizardry.
However surely using a backup cartridge voids the run? You’re not using the same game.
Obviously, but this is just for show. The real runs aren't done while presenting like this! He does also say at the end that it's not a legitimate run. But you can check his youtube channel for actually valid runs :)
Mind blown.
bro its the minecraft guy
mind... .. ... . blown!
Unpopular opinion.... Goku can't beat Mario at lvl 15 lol
What did I just watch
I had no idea isofrieze is dotsarecool!
"Go."
12:08 oooh princess... hahahaha
Wooo sethbling
