Fabulous job. Those must be the best loved pliers in the world… I’d almost be afraid to use them! Since inheriting my parents’ house I’ve been restoring some of their old tools that have been sat around in a shed unused for decades, totally rusted up. It’s so satisfying, therapeutic even, to channel my love for my parents into restoring implements that they once regularly used. I’m using a basin full of white vinegar (with a cupful of salt) to soak them for several, days, which takes off a lot of the rust, then rinsing, drying and finishing off with hand-held and drill mounted wire brushes. Then a liberal dose of WD40, wipe down, then general purpose lubricating oil for the moving parts, wipe off excess, and final wipe down. Not as comprehensive as this video but the tools are transformed and have a new lease of life. I’m now just wondering how to keep them that way, since they obviously aren’t stainless steel or they wouldn’t have rusted like that in the first place. Probably a drop of oil wiped over them from time to time, and keeping them in a wooden drawer which draws off the moisture in the air, and if necessary I’ll wire brush and oil them again periodically.
Wth? REUSE RESOURCES? Dude no hate but he's freakin using so many resources to restore this thing i mean the resources may be available to him already but they DO COST money(another resource fyi) and he's using so much freakin stuff to restore just a plier which if bought new from a store, would probably cost him half the money or even less and he's wasting so much time on this(another resource mate). Good job.
@@shauryadwivedi2752 I was thinking the same but on the other hand i have a lot of my Grandads old tools which would benefit, store bought tools just ain't the same if you know what i mean

The joy of spoiling something and rebuilding it in ur own funky way.... great work man...who cares about expenses. It was for viewer satisfaction... objective accomplished.
yeah, had no corrosion at all, also he didn't even have to sand it, he just polished it and wire brushed it which means it rusted very fast. I found this same kind of pliers magnet fishing, and they still had the handles despite being underwater for years. He probably pulled them off :/
The value of the object is not the point. The point is THE PROCESS. For example, the use of acid to remove rust is something I use all the time. The addition of baking soda never occurred to me. Good video. Useful info. And thank you for taking the time to bring it to ud
I dont know what is purpose this video. You didnt specify any of the chemicals, liquid names.we knoe this really awesome technic for restore tools but should explain/describe details. I wish you can add sub title for this video.
I agree. The rubber grip is coming off my favorite pair of channel-locks. I watched this vid hoping for an idea of how to restore them (other than wrapping the handles with electrical tape).
Well i sure do admire folks that can put such a labor of love into bring back something that has been discarded as junk. I reckon that i will have to stick with that old fashion way of when I need a tool. Where is the closest Home Depot store.

Its muriatic acid. But acid corodes metal. Wd40 would have been sufficient. Then sand it and put new rubber holders. Much easier process. Just my own opinion. Thanks.
I guess those people saying they would rather buy a new one or just put in the vinegar for some time, missed the point. He is showing this as an art form, it is his artifact. Don't take it literally!!!
Nice job, great photography but I would have like to see (or hear) what were the materials for each step eg. Vinegar? thanks God in the end the tool has been successfully restored. I think, this was the first tool that was manufactured during the first industrial revolution in Britain. otherwise, one can buy atleast 10 brand new tools with that much labor.
He's made more money getting video views from his effort rather than going to a store to replace it. Its not the replacement he's concerned about. Its his technique and views.
The liquid was lemon juice and white powder was baking soda. The reaction between an acid and a base is neutralization reaction giving the fizz out. Thus the remaining rust was cleaned off the pliers.
