  • A Yamaha RX-V367 came in with the complaint of shutting down intermittently and a glitching display. I found a single bad capacitor in the power supply circuit and could find no other issues.

    I replaced the bulging 10,000uf capacitor and that fixed it. but I also pulled off an adjacent 4700uf cap because of reverse perspective and my lack of attention ; obviously had to solder it back in. The receiver works now thanks to your video.

    Interesting!
    The control board on our wall oven just started shutting down after about 45 min. of oven use at 350F, it's around 25 yrs old. Checked the only two capacitors on the board, and they weren't high on esr. They actually used nichicon 105c caps when they made it. Checked all solder joints and didn't really find anything, but did hit a few on the main supply coming into the board especially at the relays, checked it and still would shut down after about 45 min running the oven. Couldn't figure out what was causing it. Finally decided to just go ahead and change out the two caps with new nichicon 105c caps. Really haven't had a chance to 'stress' test it just yet, but has stayed on longer than 45 mins now. We shall see! ;)
    Thanks for the video, love your channel!

    Great job showing us how to troubleshoot ic's with a schematic. It just shows how much you can do with a simple multimeter.

    One thing with my Yamaha ... it needs the controls cleaned every 6 months... attracts dust like no tomorrow... where as my optimus receiver from RS has never been cleaned and still works great after 30 years.

    Seeing 400 mV of ripple (or ~1.1 Vpp) on a supply of only about 8 V= with a substantial 10,000 µF filter cap should have been a clue, if the visible venting wasn't enough. The high ESR found comes as no surprise then. This part must have developed excessive leakage despite being operated well within spec... quite possibly just a bad apple. I won't be surprised if the replacement makes it another 15-20 years.

    So disappointing to see STKs in a Yamaha. I have an RX-V383. It looks nearly identical to this except it has front USB and 3.5mm audio inputs and Bluetooth. The RX-V367 is several years older than the RX-V383. Out of curiosity I did a bit of digging and found that you can update the firmware on the RX-V367 but you need an externally connected CD or DVD player connected to the receiver via the TOSLINK optical output on the player and the optical input on the receiver. You burn the firmware to a disc and basically "play" the file into the receiver from the connected device. I thought that was a clever way to update the firmware. The firmware updates functionality of the HDMI switcher to support 3D. Which by now....who cares?

    Hello, I connected my RX-v367 to 220 v and it is 127 v and everything went crazy, the display stays with out/1 on. When I turn it on, the display turns on in a square and then turns off. What I do, I'm from (BRAZIL). Thanks.

    Wow!
    Two questions the first question is where did you get that infrared camera or what model is it and what software do you use?
    The second question is, how did you come up with those schematics because I have no idea where to go to try and get them?

    • @norcal715

      The infrared camera is a FLIR one pro for android, As far as schematics I use Hifiengine.com and elektronia.com. I do have many factory service manuals being a factory authorized service center for most major US brands since the early 90's

    I just bought this model for 20 dollars at an auction yesterday and I turn power on and it turns right off 3 times then dont cut back on unless I unplug it and plug it back in but continues the process. I checked all the caps and no bulges. So where to start now. Any ideas would help great.

    • @norcal715
      @norcal715  2 года назад +1

      Probably has a blown channel with a DC offset. Measure all of the common leads of the emitter resistors and see if one is over a volt or two upon power up and before it shuts down.

    I have about a half dozen similar amp IC's new unused At least one new in Yamaha box. One was used once for troubleshooting then repackaged. I'm retired and have no use for them. If you like I can arrange to send them to you - just reimburse for shipping via Paypal. Not sure if any of them are needed for any of the ones you have - as I recall it's usually the three-channel one that goes bad, of course sometimes just solder connections. Let me know, I can be reached thru Facebook or by email. I have a RUclips channel too, but don't really post anymore. edit - yeah I have the 433-330 new in a Yamaha box.

    Anyone got a good source?

    • @ubergeeknz
      @ubergeeknz 2 года назад +1

      The only source now for most of the STK chips is scrapped equipment, assuming it wasn't the STK that died (and they often do). There are also discrete replacements available for some of the more popular ones. The other way to get an old receiver running again, is to replace the power amp section with a complete power amp module.

    Jesus mate I wouldn't want to pay you to repair something! the amount of extra work you do when you don't need to I would have a massive bill. You proved the HDMI board was ok by measuring the current it was drawing, then spent ages testing everything on it? The amount of current needed to make that bridge rec that hot would fry those small regs if it was them.

    • @norcal715
