Hi! i when i started scratch i was so bad :[ so went on RUclips for a tutorial and i found this! this was so helpful, so keep on making the amazing tutorials!
Amazing tutorial as always! The editing must've taken a long time. When I work on a tile-based game, I often make the costumes 100x100. This allows me to make the tile size variable, where I can simply set the size to the tile size. Only drawback to this is that pixel-art gets hard to make, but so far I've only used vector sprites as tiles.
Great tutorial. I’ve been on scratch for over 7 years, but have taken a break for the past few years. Maybe I should use this technique in a new project! Great video!
Almost everything I have ever learned from coding comes from Griffpatch’s tutorials. Got to say, he is 10x as good as my usual Computer Science teachers. He not only teaches exciting and advanced project, but makes it really easy and simple to understand. Thanks Griffpatch
Griffpatch, you’ve helped me so much throughout this channels’ years. You’ve taught me tricky concepts for scratch and now I have almost mastered everything I need to know. Thanks for all of your help along the way. :) (Also I am definitely excited for part 2)
Looked through the playlist and Scratch Cat is somehow COLLIDING with the tiles even though TILE COLLISIONS aren't set up until episode 4! He has quite literally WARPED the FABRIC of the SPACETIME CONTINUUM! This cat is an ANOMALY with mysterious powers we don't yet know the full EXTENT of!
Another method of getting around sprite fencing is to multiply the size of the sprite by ten or so and then divide by the same amount after you move it to where you want it. That’s what I used a few times in my Starlight platformer to move characters off the screen nicely, mostly for cutscenes.
Imagine how useful “width” and “height” variables would be in the looks category, that would show how much pixels wide the sprite is no matter what size. So you could just code: move (width) steps
Cool video ^^ It's also possible to do it without clones by calculating which tile is at a position and then stamp the costume there (faster most of the time than creating clones), but I guess that's not easy to show in video 😉. I would be interested for an explanation about the cars movements in your 3d city simulation if possible, do you have the name of the process you used or any tips/explanation? Continue like that and one day you will be one scratcher with hundreds of subs!
@@griffpatch hello the sound is low in your video. I have checked the sound of the video is full and the laptop's sound is also full but still low voice is coming.
Just saying, clones can listen to broadcasts, and for this sprite only variables clones can change it while the variable on the main sprite is still the same, or if the main sprite changes the variable the clones variable version will still be the same. So for example, every different clones will have a different tile x and tile y variable. The clones will also listen to the broadcast position tiles. Hope this helped :)
I was just trying to figure this out. One way to try and understand this was to reduce the grid to 2x2. Then drag the "when I start as a clone" to the code field. Put a "say" looks block containing the green operator block "join x variable with y variable. So each clone says its position.
