I have a picture book: The Rolling Stones on Tour which is from the post Exile days and Ron Wood's first tour. Lots of great pics of Ronnie's sunburst Stratocaster(s). Bought the book in '77. Don't know if you can find it or not. Great pictures all around.
Zemaitis didn't build his guitars on an assembly line, they were always custom made on a commission basis to the artists specifications, the wood was exotic, the electronics, etc. plus the silver on the front had artwork etched into it. He was the English equivalent to Alembic
william harvey In the 1970s Tony Zemaitis was the finest luthier in the world, and hand made guitars for celebrity clients - people like Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, Eric Clapton. He only made about 30-40 and hence they're very rare and insanely valuable. Ronnie Woods Zemaitis is probably worth about 400k dollars. And that's not the celebrity ownership inflating the value. They're just incredibly rare, and incredibly sought after👍
Dsennack Really??? Can't anyone even express their kind thoughts without somebody jumping on to compare players??? People who do that remind me of children saying, "No, me, me. Pick me, Mommie."
In '75 I sat in the Kingsgate Hotel in Kings Cross with Ronnie and played his Tony Zemaitis black and silver beastie when he toured with The Faces; two months later I sat in the same room playing the same guitar because he'd returned to tour with The Stones!
I played Ronnies Tony Zemaitis twice in '75 in Sydney. The first time was when he was with "The Faces', and a couple of months later when he toured with The Stones.
Absolute and one of the most killer collections I’ve ever seen. Wish he’d had his les Paul yo talk about. Would give a kidney for that. His hi watt that he used with the faces was on reverb not to long ago for only 10,000$ what a treasure.
After seeing "Shine a Light" last year, I have much greater regard for Ronnie's lead playing. While I would agree that M. Taylor was the finest lead guitarist the Stones ever had, Ronnie is no slouch; I've also seen him w/the band (in `75, `78, `81, `89 & `97), and can attest that he grooves as well as anyone.
a 1955 AND a 1954 Strat? Sheesh - that's about $50,000 worth of guitars just there, not to mention that Ronnie Wood owns them! and that Zamaitis and Firebird, and... dang! thanks for posting!
That's NOT his collection just what's on this tour. Some of it. Cause I've seen him playing a Tele and he didn't show a Tele. Alco some more acoustics behind him and when you think about the Stones and guitars, they're just tools to do a daily job. So I would bet that while Keef owns this 1 and Ronnie owns that 1 they just pick up whatever suits there mood. And Mick plays ever once in a while also.
I was sad when Woody joined the Stones, because I felt it would be the end of his writing and making a real mark. He would as I suspected graciously bow to the brilliance of Jagger and Richards. He has made many solo records and that was good but in the stones he's spent his time politely complementing the others and never over stepping his bounds. In the Faces he was the man multi-tracking guitars and mandolins and composing. In the stones he's a compliment to Richards and a safeguard.
I think he was brought in to actually bolster Keith's playing; i.e., to fill the holes Keith leaves. Have you ever really sat and listened to Ronnie's playing on the stuff from Black & Blue onward? 'Grow as a player?' This guy was touring with the Jeff Beck Group in '68 [on bass]. Did you hear what he just played on that acoustic lap-steel on this post? He's one of the most capable players on the planet earth.
Ronnie was like the KOOLEST Rock Star I ever met, We where Backstage at a Chuck Berry thing in Anahiem/LA area . Next night again in Beverly Hills at his Lawyers place in Beverly Hills . He gave me his private phone line in NYC an all. I would call all the time he offered to give me some guitar tips, his kid would pick up the line a say "Daddy it's Teddy from Hollywood" and we would chat and then I lost his phone number !!! Fuuuuuuuuccccckkkkk!!!!!!$
He's so influential! Stones guitar parts are never what they seem, always have a little trick up the sleeve. When I'm in the studio laying down tracks for people, I often channel Keith and Ron and just let it be, works out great.
Brian Jones was an all rounder, but at the end he wasn't touching the guitar and trying to play everything else instead. Mick Taylor never realised how brilliant he was. Ronnie is amazing.
It's awesome to hear Ronnie. I knew he had talent. But wow. I researched him and he is a real pro. A genius in his own way. A true gentleman. My utmost respect to you sir.
totally agree with you, mate, and I agree had he not joined the stones he'd probably be one of the most interesting and briliant guitarists ever, as it is he's currently a very solid guitarist
Man.could watch this kind of stuff all day.what a collection.sure he has loads more.ahh to have money.i think he's great by the way.specially the slide n pedal steel stuff.
They spent the last week rehearsing in Adelaide before Saturday's concert. Ronnie signed a few autographs dashing out of the hotel to the car on most occasions. Chuck and Mick Taylor the same. The others a bit more elusive. Ronnie played most of the guitars shown in the clip. They were brilliant.
@PacquiaoEPO The Zemaitis "Disc Front" is actually a 1971 model. I belive Ronnie was the 4th person to get his hands on an electric Zemaitis. You're right about the price though. A copy (built by TZ in 1981) of Keith Richards 1975 "Macabre" Zemaitis (lost in a fire in the 70's) recently sold for $US175'000.
They're usually on telecasters or tele- style guitars. The back of the guitar is routed out for a mechanism that works when you pull down on the strap, the b- sting is raised either a whole of half a tone. I've been able to play only one on a Custom Shop Tele and it's pretty fun! Stonecrazy's right, it's used primarily by country guys, but Jimmy Page used one on In Through The Out Door by Zeppelin. You can hear it on "All My Love" and "Hot Dog"
I Luv the Pot Leaf Shirt! Also I think Ron's a great guitarist and would have liked to see him do more work outside the Stones! Still cool guitars though and I would love to have seen more of a proper interview with the ol' gent!
i am envious as well. i have a telecaster, but thats nothin compared to wood. admittedly, though he is not from the original line-up, hes definitely my favorite of the stones. get yer ya-ya's out!
Oh my God, I have a bunch of guitars, but A FEW SPARE 50's strats .....by the way, he has now a beautiful J200 Gibson signature that sounds VERY WELL,good old Ronnie, he doesn't play like Mick Taylor but e v e r y b o d y LOVES HIM !!!
I gotta say that I didn't see any Spinal Taps moments in this clip whatsoever. I'm sure that he (and Keith) have had their share of ST moments, but this isn't one of them. He's just showing us his axes, which is very, very cool footage for any Stones fans or guitar players out there. I happen to be both and thought the clip was fantastic. Thanks for sharing it!
You're absolutely right, he did. I have a video somewhere of him playing that at the first night in Knebworth in '79. That's what I played when I tried that Tele out. lol
Someone threw a rose on stage, when I saw the Stones, and Ronnie strolled over to it, got it between his shoes, kicked it up into the air and caught it with his teeth, playing his guitar the whole time, and then swung his head sending the rose airborne, and then side kicked the rose back into the audience..
The silver and black guitar he points to, is a 1973 Tony Zemaidis original. Hand made by the guy. Ronny would never sell it (it's been his main axe since the Faces days), but you're looking at a million dollar guitar there. And not just because Ronny owns it. It would be worth that much anyway. As they're very rare.
Ronnie isn't Keith Richards second fiddle, they both have the same role at the stones. Also he's not replacing Mick Taylor, he created a new Stones sound, get informed before making a coment
Actually, he's picking up where Brian Jones left off...continuing the "weaving" style that Keith likes so much. Taylor was a bit to strong a lead soloist of Keith's taste. Couldn't touch him in that department but then again no one else could either.
No journalist has ever asked if Ronnie If he ever paid for or returned the Jazz Bass that he stole from a guitar store in ‘67. It was used on the first two Jeff Beck albums.
not that some of his stuff with the stones hasn't been amazing, but yeah his guitar playing in the faces is probably the best raw bluesy rock 'n roll stuff I ever heard, beating even the great Chuck Berry and Keef (only just though), also one of the most distinct slide guys ever
I don't agree with him not being a serious guitarist since joining the Stones. He has grown, him an Keith have done very well together and he, in his book, stated he does quite enjoy being less of a lead player than a rhythm player (He and Keith alternate from time to time) but the reason Keith is known better is because he has been the face of the Stones since the beginning with Mick. He is a fantastic guitar player and one of my true hero's. And he has made a great solo album.!
I just love the way he casually browses through about £600,000 pounds worth of guitars backstage. A great guy. Keep Rockin Ronnie.
and the rest lol
Gotta love it…His "spare" guitar for his 1955 Stratocaster is a 1954 Stratocaster…Amazing! :)

And the Zemaitis is worth more than both Strats combined. Much more
That's just the guitar market. It's also Ron Wood's Zemaitis.
Zemaitis didn't build his guitars on an assembly line, they were always custom made on a commission basis to the artists specifications, the wood was exotic, the electronics, etc. plus the silver on the front had artwork etched into it. He was the English equivalent to Alembic

@@frankiebutler2894well said. Brian Jones, Taylor, Woody, all very different great musicians for very different Stones eras
I like the sound of that acoustic slide guitar from California. Beautiful.
I've got his ESP Signature guitar and it's a freaking marvel. Plays like heaven, resonates like a dream and has an incredible craftsmanship.
ROCKIN" RON WOOD !!

Beautiful Guitar Collection..Thanks for Sharing
I sold Ronnie a 59 Les Paul Special, mint condition, the night he got signed to the Stones. It was one hell of an all night party! Nice guy...
One of my favorite guitar players. So understated and so tasteful. Brought some much needed vitality to the Stones when he joined. Legend.
He seems like a very nice person.
Went shopping for a 1940 to1950's guitar shop assistant said " Sorry, Ronnie Wood's got 'em all ! " Ha
It's because he's a very nice person!
...just read his book. Ronnie is a class act, non judgemental, creative , caring....a true artist.
great rhythm and slide player
I played Ronnies Tony Zemaitis twice in '75 in Sydney. The first time was when he was with "The Faces', and a couple of months later when he toured with The Stones.
Getcha a warrior and be done. His touring guitars are like museum peices really! Wow

Saw him with Jeff Beck.
Jeff introduced him as 15 years old.
He's the counter-point guitarist.
Keith is the riff master, and ronnie gets to "paint" around keith's riffs
agreed...I wouldn't put him a "back seat" to Keith by any stretch...just a different style, and yes, he does know how to fill in the gaps.
Always loved his sound. Such a great guy
I like Ronnie Wood... Good guy.
