    If I'm being honest, this isn't my best sprite work. I've been working more in the Gen 2 style lately so I'm a bit rusty on the Gen 5 style. But I think it does the job and gets the stylistic elements across.

      I honestly forgot that I asked you this to be honest. 😣
      And due an act of carelessness on my part I haven't been able to draw on my laptop. Not at least not until I can find someone to fix my drawing tablet. Or have enough money to buy another one.
      But I think I was hoping to see if you had any advice on how to make regional forms, say for past regions?
      Like in Hoenn what if the Grimer and Koffing lines were all part fire type? Of the Vulpix became ghost type?
      Side note: Have you heard about that site with the Pokemon generator that uses an AI? Nokemon something? It makes some pretty crazy fakemons.

    I think you forgot (i guess) to mention is the fact the sprites from all 2D generations had another limitation about what colors you really could use. They all have a limitation you can see better on sprites taken with no palette fixing conf. on emulator (or sort of). Sprites all in these generations could only use colors where they had to be divisible by 8, so, the minimum you could use was between #000000 (black) and the maximum #F8F8F8 (white). It is not that noticeable when the sprites between generations are more and more better colored, but, you can notice when seeing their hexadecimal values on the colors. This is also why some generation 2 games had some sprites that if so not related, they accidentally has the same color on one of the two available space for the palette. Thanks for my uninteresting talk, it was just a detail I thought it was important for technical thinks (such as turn the Sprite for the real hardware).

      Funnily enough I did something simlar when doing gen 5 sprite art without even realizing the same technique was used in the actual game (this was before I knew that a sprite sheet on Spriters Resource is not necessarily how the data is stored in the ROM)

    • @UmbreonLibris
      @UmbreonLibris  3 года назад +1

      I have made a trainer sprite of myself before, haha. But I don't think there's much reason to cover trainer sprites specifically since the styles and techniques match the Pokémon sprites pretty closely.
      This is the last _planned_ episode to cover pixel art, but after the next episode I'm open to suggestions for other more specific styles y'all want to learn about.

    I actually block out my animation before I draw the sprite, so I draw the design on a digital art program and then I get the proportions right using wire frames in pixel art and then I animate that wire frame and then I go to the first frame and draw the pokemon in sprite form and then I fill out the rest

    What are the easiest software to use to create these sprites in your opinion?

    • @UmbreonLibris
      @UmbreonLibris  2 года назад +1

      That's a great question, but I'm not the best person to answer it. Throughout my pixel art career, I have only ever used the Windows XP version of Paint, and Photoshop. Paint was super simple and easy enough to use, but it didn't support transparency or animation. Photoshop can do it all and soooo much more, it often gets in its own way. I'm used to Photoshop by now, but I also know it isn't ideal.
      I don't have any experience with it myself, but if you are looking to start out, I would suggest you try something that is designed for pixel art, since it would be the smoothest experience. This guide might help: conceptartempire.com/pixel-art-software/
