  • Silumina Seya Stupa: The centerpiece of this site is the Silumina Seya stupa, resting on an elevated square pedestal. This location is of great historical significance, as it houses the largest "Gal Chatraya" (Stone Umbrella) discovered in Sri Lanka. These stone umbrellas, known as "Chatra Gala" or "Gal Kude," adorned the pinnacles of the earliest stupas in the country.
Stone Artifacts: Near the preserved stupa, you can find the impressive Chatra Gala, a large granite pillar (Yupa Kanuwa) in three pieces that once supported the umbrella, and parts of two other Chatra Galas. Additionally, there are remnants of two more Yupa Kanu pillars.
Historical Renovations: According to the archaeology board at the site, the stupa was renovated by King Agbo VIII (804-815 CE).
Monastic Remnants: The site suggests it was once a vast monastery, evident from the numerous large pillars scattered throughout the jungle. These pillars, significantly larger than those found at similar sites, indicate the presence of massive buildings supported by them.
Sacred Footprints and Stone Structures: Surrounding the stupa, you'll find stone slabs with sacred footprints, a large stone seat, and a stone altar divided into four sections.
If you miss the turn-off to the Silumina Seya site, don't worry-you'll end up at the stunning Aralaganwila Reservoir, a serene and beautiful destination worth visiting.
