Hey everyone! I have to correct past wrong-doings by fixing this the only way I know how - with solid buck/brazer head rivets. This shows the process that I went through.

Modify your boat at your own risk. Хобби
Just trying to help out here from a long time aerospace welder fabricator. Driving the rivet is a three-step process. First the two metals must be held together as closely as possible by clamp or cleco adjoining the hole your riveting. The type of rivet you're driving is what's called a brazier head, you can buy the drivers online from Amazon for about $15. With the proper riveting tool you won't have the issue of the driver slipping off. There are a few different sizes for different brazier heads. You exert more pressure on the head of the rivet than you do with the bucking bar you drive a few taps enough to barely swell the rivet so that it does not fall out then you must draw the metal that you're riveting. You move the bucking bar against the sheet metal and then drive the riveter for another few strikes then you go back and then you finish flattening out the rivet to 1½ to 2 times the diameter of the rivet shank for boat work. By using the proper driver you will exert force on the entire head of the rivet and it will seal properly against the aluminum without any sealant. With the Flathead driver you're just driving the shank in the middle and the outer edges of the brazier head will actually bend backwards. Job is looking good keep it up! 😎_
I was wondering when an aerospace sheet metal guy would jump on this comment section
@@Worldshero ..... Because I'm a big time bass fisherman and I love working on a little aluminum boats and modifying the crap out of them with bigger outboards. Call it a hobby...😎😎😎
@ 6:30 such a teenager teaching moment. Made me smile. :-) I still have a teenager at home. cherish this time with them.
Looks awesome! I cant wait to have the room to start one of these
Great videos man love your honesty! Keep up the good work!!
Looks good dude! Redoing my 17ft alumacraft and what a fun project so far 👌 sealing the subfloor hopefully tomorrow!
Man, you have seriously turned me into a tiny boat fanatic. What you've done with the channel over just the past few months have been inspiring and motivational. Some people just want a boat. After all the money I've spent buying people's trash I've been driven to build my own. I'd like to chat about the business side of things when you get a moment. Email me if you get a moment bro. Great job on the videos and you know what you've got as far as a successful business goes.
This is the video I needed to start my 14v
I use the bucking bar on head side and the small palm nailer(HF) on shaft side!Fool Proof
I concave my air hammer, even then, it was so difficult. That said thankfully it was on the side on the boat on which I could use both my hands, and not needing two people.
Take your tool, place it in a vice, and use the same size metal drill bit to concave the tool on the end so it will fit the rivet
What size rivets do you use i need to do some on my tracker
In the video at 1.30 it shows the framing of the boat. I see a new floor brace or two I'm doing them on my boat. What type and style of rivet are you using to attach the brace to the hull??? Ps I've purchased tbn 1/4 sealed rivets 50 of them
I'll tig mine but thank you to show me why it looked like a pain
For the rivets I found apex tool makes an actual brazier punch 12 bucks
Neighbors must have loved you that evening lol
You didn’t use silicone around the rivers to seal it ?
What’s up dude!!!
It might have worked if you drill the hammer out just a bit so it would hold the top of the rivet you can buy the bit on eastwoood or amazon
I have the same problem you are having with the solid aluminum river. I went to Home Depot and just bought a pan head bolt and rubber washer for the time being. I have spent three hours trying to air hammer 3 rivers and all of them failed. So I gave up. If they leak I am just going to take them to a shop and have them done! I have watched every RUclips video on how to do this and I thought it was easy as they say, I just can’t get them to flatted down and seal. There all still loose. I do not get it.
Take the angle grinder u used to cut the chisel and use the curve of the blade to cut the concave to the tip.
I bought one on Amazon
Drill a cup into end of air chizel tip
I would have took the dreamal and ground a cup shape on that air chisel and it wouldn’t pop off
nice video, what sıze are the rivets sir?
3/16”
@@TinyBoatNation thank you
What size rivets did you use?
3.16”
@@TinyBoatNation what length though 3/8 or 1/2 “ ?
Thanks I used 3/8 and they were not grabbing well , I also may have had the psi too high, I saw you lower yours. I also have the concave chisel
Oh my god that was painful to watch. I’m a aircraft mechanic. The “rivet set”is only $14 at ATS or Aircraft Tool Supply. It has a curved face to stay on the rivet and apply even pressure..
@@TinyBoatNation Hey Mike. I too M a former aircraft mechanic and agree with Tom. You need the right tool that is concave and fits on rivet head and won't walk. I have done this probably dozens of times on various aircraft sheet metal repairs.
You and the boy do jiu jitsu?
I'm in the process of rebucking a couple rivets and sealing bottom of baot after removing 5 layers of failing paint. I find it irresponsible just slapping new paint over failing paint and patches. I even posted on Tiny boat nation Facebook and seen multiple comments of people commenting take the easiest way around water leaks. Good on them but not on this boat.
Yup, the paint will fail
pop rivets will float yer boat too.
There's a difference between an air hammer and a rivet gun.....
Do tell
LOL
Not a one person job unless you've two "shaped" tools to locate the rivet on both sides......
Hey buddy I’ll send u the hammer bit u need if u give me a P.O. Box to send it to
