Dark Folk - An Introduction

"Dark Folk" is classically inspired, nature-driven, European folk music, that utilizes mainly nylon-string guitars and often bowed instruments such as celli, to produce melodic and atmospheric compositions.
Despite the term being used, there is no need for the music to always sound "Dark". In fact most music of this kind sounds rather melancholic and thoughtful.
The album that mainly inspired this neo-classical movement is Ulver - Kveldssanger, which was almost entirely composed by Ulver's Guitarist Haavard.
Common themes: Nature, Mysticism, Night, (European) Mythology, Poetry, Culture etc.
