After going through 3 bottle gourd seed bags. I had enough. Thankfully, you have provided me with accurate and priceless knowledge on how to germinate these seeds. I can't thank you enough. Thank you for sharing, you have helped me tons!
Perfect instructions! Was having a particularly difficult time germinating long gourd seeds, having many simply rot before germinating. Using these instructions, they germinated in 3 days. Good luck with your gardens!
I wanted to tell you (again) how much I appreciate your video. I had some seeds that I thought was bad because they didn’t germinate. After I followed your instructions almost 95% of them germinated. Now I have lots of angled sponge gourd, sponge gourd, bitter melon and snake gourd growing in my light stand. They will be ready to go outside when it warms up. I’m able to sell extras to others.
Great explanation and demonstration (and experiments to support your expert perspectives). I’ve been growing gourds for years but with mixed results. Most of my problems have been inconsistent germination for certain varieties. So I very much appreciate your knowledge for different types of gourds. Thank you!
honestly i keep coming back to this video because i cannot for the life of me remember how to sprout my luffa thank you so much for this complete, direct and concise video.
I love watching your video every spring to remind myself of the technique. This year the gourd seeds are growing after only 48 hours ! On top of my router seems to be the ideal place. I'll be back next spring.
Extremely helpful information on difficult plant types. My seeds germination directly on soil used to take from 2 weeks to a month with some none at all. Thanks for post. David
After following your advice I finally managed to germinate bottle and bushel gourd and seeds! Hopefully they continue well when I move them to soil. Thanks from Canada!
@@incanada83 I'll have to get back to you- it's been such a weird cool and windy spring here that I've kept them in pots and keep moving them (which is a pain cause of their size let me tell you!) in and out- I'm determined to keep these things alive ;P Just today I actually put them in the ground to stay. They've been flowering, so I'll let you know!
@@CanineWild Have similar weather here too. Canada eh? LOL Thanks for writing back. I'll be interested of your progress when you find the time. Good luck :-)
Hey! Gourd update- of the 4 seedlings I planted outside 1 died for some reason, but 3 took to the outdoors beautifully! Lots of growth and flowers. I have no idea if the season will be long enough to get mature gourds after my late start outside, but the vines at least seem happy ;)
I love that you included common places to keep our seeds. Every video tells me my garage, but my garage is not insulated so it’s colder than outside sometimes. I was going to keep them in my room, but I think I’ll keep them on top of my ps4.
I thank you most sincerly. You presented your skills excellently in both timing and cheerfulness. I have some very old bottle gourd seeds and I'm excited to see if they still have life.
I really enjoy your videos and learn a lot from them. Thank you for the great information. When do you pick your luffa gourds and how do you cook them? Thanks for any information.
I have some fresh hairy melon seeds I scooped out of the melon. They’re very soft and tender so I’m just going to keep them in a moist paper towel for the time being...
This is so timely and helpful. Thank you! Now I know why I had such a hard time germinating fuzzy melons. I will be following your method and hope to germinate more gourd seeds and have a very fruitful summer. Any tips on germinating beans and pea shoots? Should I also soak and clip them? I use rock wool to germinate as I grow most of my veggies in Kratky hydroponic method. My yield for beans and pea shoots is quite low as most of them become mush and rot away. Thanks for any tips.
+San Hu Beans and peas cannot stand water-logging. I don't think Kratky hydroponic method will work for them well. Beans and peas are very easy to germinate. No need to clip or even soak them (or soak them less than 5 hours). If you use rock wool to germinate them, reduce the wetness to keep it just lightly wet. It should improve the germination. Good luck!
Brilliant video .I live In uk last 30 years been growing bottle guard must admit they were taking long time to in room window later on transferred in green house, several fruit appeared but only few were in size in spite of pollination by brush .kindly tell me from where to by good quality seeds thanks
Hi I'm rob I find with bitter melons I get one leave it to ripen for a few days or more carefully cut it open remove the seeds and coating around them then plant them out straight away then lightly water and tag them
I live in Eastern Ontario. Last year I grew birdhouse gourds by direct seeding them into the soil. The vines grew well but unfortunately the season was not long enough to grow the few gourds I harvested to full size. I made small bird houses out of them anyway. This year I am going to start them indoors first to lengthen my growing season. I am also going to lay black plastic over the soil where they will be transplanted to heat the soil up for them.
Is it too late to plants winter melon and fuzzy melon. I live CA Long Beach and I have a hard time germinate it . But I'm going to tired again this time. I love your shop. I just buy some more seeds. I germinate Long bean and other seeds but l have problems with winter melon and fuzzy melon.

Hey! Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds in Missouri sells many bottle gourd and long bean varieties that they collect from all over the world and acclimatized on their farm to the US. They also have free shipping, ship their seeds very quickly in my experience, and give you a free seed variety every time you order. Here are their listings for their bottle gourd varieties: www.rareseeds.com/search/?keyword=bottle%20gourd And here are all their long bean varieties: www.rareseeds.com/search/?keyword=long%20beans I've been using their seeds in my garden, they sell some incredible varieties that are at risk of going extinct if they are not grown and preserved. I am currently growing their Japanese Bitter Melon for the first time in my garden! Best of luck to you :D

You just need room temperature to soak the seed. But when you germinate them, keep them at warm place the entire time if you can.
Has anyone tried germinating using fresh gourdseeds eg. Ridgegourd or Bittergourd?
