でも、アメリカの銀行でも日本語を喋る人も多分いないか珍しい。カルフォルニア出身です。i don't always think it's fair for someone to go to another country and just expect them to speak English...

I agree. Good point. I went to hotels and gyms where some of the staff were half-Japanese so they spoke English because of their American fathers. But this was merely coincidental and unexpected so they helped me out with the bs bureaucracy. But undeed, we CANNOT expect this favor just because English is supposedly an international language. I respect Japan for being truly Japanese. In 60 years from now Japan might be different as a lot of Japanese women forn.icate with foreign men. Excellent video made by Kensho-san.

The same applies to japanese people, it's unfair to expect a foreigner to speak like native speaker, as I have came across many people who have passed japanese proficiency exam N3 but was turned away in jobs due to language proficiency and was encouraged by employers to learn N2 business level proficiency.

@leviathansparrow6244 it takes more than a year for an not native speaker to do N3 level, and there are living example of many people who does not even studied any level of proficiency, but happy living in Japan, even native speakers not aware of all kanji in level 1, so if level 1 is the standard then God bless your company and you.

Hearing that it isn't very common to apologize when you bump into someone is surprising to me. Is that a real thing? From what I understand it seems that Japanese culture prioritizes politeness in public. Could the lack of apology be more of a city living problem? People living close together so bumping into people is more common and seen as not rude?
