Happy Lunar New Year Guys! We just want to say thank you to so many of you guys who were open to letting us interview. 😘 hopefully the partnership system will be implemented soon.
I am suprised to see how indifferent a lot of people in the video were about it. Maybe it is an age thing (30s) or lesbian thing but most of the lesbians couples I know in Tokyo all want partnership to recognized and eventually want marriage as well. I am personally hopeful for the future in Japan and believe it will change.
@@TokyoBTM I always wondered this. Why doesn’t Meng or Andrew go back to their home countries to get married? I bet it is significantly easier to get married as a gay man for Andrew since he is Canadian.
I wish you had asked some lesbians too about this issue,I feel like as a "female" their outlook would different on the issue because of already existing societal issue for them that "males"don't have to face in society.
There appears to be some confusion on this topic. "Marriage Equality" for the most part is not about THE gay relationship, IT IS ABOUT how all government agencies provide EQUAL ACCESS to the law for the members of the LGBT community. IT IS about ECONOMIC equality, LEGAL equality, ETHIC equality, EQUALITY of due process & FINANCIAL equality. We will have our relationships regardless of government intervention BUT in order for our relationships to have an increased chance to succeed & flourish, the LGBT community MUST have access to MARRIAGE EQUALITY!
¡This channel is so eclectic! Never heard about this. Thank you for being on the spot and informing both your international audience as well as the people who surround you in Tokyo.
I have no intention to get married or anything but I am happy for the people who have the desire or need to at least get this system in place which will make the fight easier in the long run I think. Ps: I finally met Meng senpai in person last week and he is a sweetie. Hope to see you again!
Legislation is always the last thing to move. It takes baby steps to get there and adopting the partnership system across Tokyo is a good step. It’s awesome to hear you guys exploring those serious topics :3
I see this as a step in the right direction. I should hope that it goes to full fledged marriage. Y'all found some very lively folks to interview lol. Thanks as always for all your hard work on these videos! おもしろいですよ。ビデオをありがとうございました。
It's actually a big step forward for LGBTQ people in Tokyo, to be honest, I was not even expecting any kind of legislation recognizing same-sex couples from a country that does not even anknowledge the existence of LGBTQ people. So yes, I'm very happy this is happening! Way to go Tokyo! ♥
I was highly irritated by the intrusive English speaking "model", you guys were total pros in how you handled that. I have to say I probably would have been rude to him.
First of all, thank you indeed for making this fun yet informative video. After I watched it, there are 2 things that come in my mind. 1.Some people still think that marriage should come along with love (in a romantic/sexual way I guess). That way of thinking gives me a frown many times, even you guys were trying to emphasize them regarding the rights of LGBTQA+ (which I appreciate you so much). Please correct me if I am wrong, because there are many reasons the get married, people should be allowed to do so even they are friends. 2. Some say they do not really care, it does not matter that much for them, even they are gay. This part shatters my heart a little but it gets better after they say they would support this law if it helped others. But seems like all the interviewees have no thoughts against the imminent implementation of partnership system or same-sex marriage. It is a good sign in my point of view, everything takes time. This is a great step to go as you said. Looking for your next wonderful videos.
As I live in Brazil, where gay marriage is possible since 2011/2013, I'd like to say that it's just a first step, necessary indeed, but a small conquer yet.
The issue is the same everywhere...old men in power are part of the issue of why logistical and judicial progress is happening so slowly. Great topic for a new video.
Mr BicCamera and the British guy seemed like tools. The Japanese people were super-sweet (especially the pro adoption one on the left, she was a star). By far the stand-out person was the bearish guy "DiD YooUuU HAaAvE Aa GoOoOoD TiImMeE?!?!" 😛😛😛 gotta love that manic energy 💖

Great topic. Love it. It could be interesting to understand the psyche of the suggested group who has a stake on the outcome of a marriage equality in Japan. Oh, 新年快乐 万事如意 Meng
In the UK, equalisation began with Civil Partnership, that was only available to same-sex couples. The leaders of the then government felt compromised, so when the opportunity came for full civil marriage, they paid to have the Civil Partnerships changed to marriage certificates, and back-dated them to the date of the original Civil Partnership. We had to have marriage banns published just as would any couple. Since then, heterosexual couples have fought to have Civil Partnerships, and from 2019 have been able to take advantage of the scheme. It was a long journey.
I hope one day everybody will have the same rights and the possibility to choose to live their life without permission or judgement. Being able to choose what type of relationship they want to have is really important (mariage, single, open relationship or whatever). We should have same possibilities and the same rights. Mariage gives so much more rights than partership (oficial recognition as "family", property, visa or heritage... Etc....). 💜💜💜✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼 Love you guys ! Happy lunar new year !🌜🐯

I like to believe that little steps are as important as big moves. However, even if greater Tokyo adopts the "Partnership System", it's a far cry from National Legal Gay Marriage as law. It's difficult to adopt any cultural changes (into law) for a society that includes very conservative thinking policy makers. I also agree with other previous commentors about the rather non-committal attitude expressed by such a young demographic. It's a bit saddening. PS Happy Lunar New Year Guys.

As for most people seeming indifferent, this is often the case, that the people in the society are happy, in principal, but they're not in direct control of setting legislation, and as pointed out, most of the politicians are older, conservative men.
