I started bowling in the 70s with rubber and plastic. We were taught to move three boards for this spare and five boards for that spare and throw it over your strike mark. Then when urethane and especially resin came we were taught straight balls only with a dedicated spare ball. I never see anyone throw straight balls at spares anymore. Didn't know if they were taught differently or what. Of course I also see a lot of younger Bowlers have follow throughs that cross their body and that used to be a massive no-no.
Great video, love it. A quick question if I may, that's not related to spare shooting. Noticed your left arm rising up in your approach which I suppose closes up your shoulders which is fine for playing the gutter but when opening the lane and angles I bet that is rough, are you planning on working on it? I would suggest you to, would make your shots more fluent as well. Anyway great game. Love the recent videos.
Hi Sarah, loving your nail polish. I just bought a ball just like that and it was the best investment I have made to date. I throw a Black Widow and for the life of me I could not pick up a 10 pin with it. The Ice changed every thing and improved my game a lot. I am guessing i missed a lot of 10 pins with the Black Widow due to a slower ball speed. Lost a little speed with getting older LOL. Any way as always, look forward to your videos. Get up the good work.
"I don't know the stats, I'm not WebMd" Bwahaha that was great. I can see why you shot 3-6-10s, definitely need more work there. 7s and 10s looked good.
I got my roto grip duos drilled today and the pro shop operator introduced me to interchangeable thumbs which I like so with the rest of my arsenal I am gradually going to swap them over to interchangeable thumbs.
One of the keys to better spare shooting is to throw a better first shot. Leaving washouts and wide splits won't help your spare percentage. Once you get to a certain average range, you have a high percentage of picking up one and two pin spares. The old 3-6-9 spare system worked on lanes that were oiled gutter to gutter with the same volume of oil across. The system isn't reliable on house shots with the high volume or oil in the center and dry boards outside.
RH here, and I only shoot straight at left side spares when I'm on a sport shot (which isn't often). I'm much better and more comfortable hooking at left side spares on a house shot. 3-6-10s are just evil. 😊
i explained - i didn’t think it was. but apparently you can ask permission so long as you’re only using it to shoot spares. regardless, mines chipping around the thumb so i needed a new one 💯
Love the daily Sarah fix. That is a sweet looking new spare ball too!
Chat, she's such a beauty ain't she!? The new spare ball ain't too bad either

Its beautifulL i just bought a columbia white dot, its very nice but that one is awesome. I keep trying to throw it like a strike ball.

I need a spare ball, when I try the 10 pin it always hooks just enough to miss by a hair lol. I like that ice.
The 3-6-10 is HARD
I dont have the confidence to throw straight at left side spares. I can do it, and it goes fine, I just don't do it when it counts. Lol.
Gonna need a lot more than spares bowling against men on a short pattern. Would a better investment be bowling a local handicap tournament instead?
Chris barnes uses his platinum ford spare ball on tour doesn't he why wouldn't it be approved
