You make sure you have the basics (rice and drinking water), and that all of your gas burners work on low and don't sputter with low pressure or clogged gas outlets. Also having a good place to rest after a long day of moving helps your body stay in tip top shape, so setting up your bed on the first day is a great idea.

She said that the spirits of these elements would bless the new place and make sure that you always have means to bring food on the table.
oh my gosh yes i relate to this so much. it’s called feng shui and it’s like all these things you do for your house for good luck and energy flow. when me and my family moved, we had to make sure our house was in like a good location, had good numbers, etc. we sprinkled rice in the corners when we moved and we had to take down a window because it’s bad to have a window directly across the front door 😅. and everytime i want to rearrange the furniture in my room, we need to make sure that the bed is placed in a certain direction because it’s bad luck for it to be against the wall of a bathroom and other stuff like that. it’s super complicated lol and i can’t remember any of the rules

Setting up the bed might not be a good luck thing until you have exhausted all of your energy bring your stuff inside the next day. Same can be said for the water and rice. Nothing sucks more then finally getting done unpacking and realizing that they have not turned on your water yet. Also having to find all the parts for the bed frame along with blankets and pillows. In addition to that if it was in storage or just bought they might smell a bit so it allows that dusty smell from the bed or the chemically smell from the bed disapate. Also since you have gas stove if they have been sitting dust can build up which then catches fire and can burn down a house. And again it also allows you to check to make sure the gas was turned onto your place. Also let to check if there is any issue with the gas before you bring all of your stuff over. Having repair people trying to navigate through a box maze is dangerous and can cause issue with accidently broken things. Also bottled water is awesome to have while you are going back and forth carrying boxes. It also makes it so you don't have to go through all of your kitchen boxes just to find a cup. Most superstitious things have a reasonable background to them. But people change and so does the technology and customs. Also superstitions are more likely to be remembered then someone telling you to do something. Your brain more likely to remember strange superstitions then advise. Especially when the superstition is extremely random and weird.

Most superstitious things have a reasonable background to them. But people change and so does the technology and customs.
Also superstitions are more likely to be remembered then someone telling you to do something.
Your brain more likely to remember strange superstitions then advise. Especially when the superstition is extremely random and weird.
ok so there’s always a reason behind every superstition. and even though im not Chinese i think i get mostly why to do this.
- *Turning all the fans and stove on* : when you move in it would be a good way to check that everything is in order and nothing is broken or leaking or stuff like that.
- *Bringing water and rice through the front door* : I’m not really sure about this one but it might be since you’re moving into a new place it’s good to have some form of food and water from the first day.
bringing rice in Chinese culture also symbolises wealth so that is also there.
- *Setting up bed on the first day* : Since you’re moving in and would be sleeping there setting up the bed on the first day seems the my reasonable and after a tiring day of moving in it’s kind of like a reward to sleep in a cozy bed.
again this is just my interpretation on the superstitions. 👍

I’m filipino and my mom also does this all the time when we move! she puts jack fruit in a tub, puts it on a shelf, with other stuff like rice, and water, to give good luck, then she tests the stoves, and she says it brings good luck! :D

This is so true when my family moved into a new house my dad made us stay up until 12:00 am because were going to our old house to get water and it's supposed to give good luck.(btw our house wasn't sold during that time )
