    The case design has aged really well, it's still one of the sleekest computers I've ever seen. Hopefully you can keep it running for a long time! The new Mac Pro is essentially just a Mac Studio with a massive PCI-E backplane

    • @accordinglyryan

      I doubt I'll ever let go of this thing even when I do eventually replace it. Definitely one of Apple's best designs ever imo. Yeah the new one is such a confusing product lol. Some people have said they intended on making a more powerful "M2 Extreme" version but canceled it at the last minute which kinda would explain why what we got is so odd.

      Today I bought a DELL workstation. Although the configuration is higher, I used this MAC 2019 to install the WINDOWS operating system more smoothly than the Dell one. So I returned the Dell workstation.

    Would be nice if they revived the mac pro. After the unfortunate m2 ultra mac pro, even though they are probably going to kill it off, it would be nice if they did a turnaround and made an m3 extreme mac pro with more modular parts or something like that.

      After they use up the old style cases, they will probably release a Mac Pro that is half the current size of it.

      Depends on your budget and what you want. If you‘d like to get a pretty good Mac Pro which might lose software support soon, you can get one for 1.5 to 2k right now, which is way cheaper than they were just a couple years ago. If you feel like spending significantly more money for an up to date one, wait for new models. If you do not need any PCI lanes, get a Mac Studio.

    I think the main thing the 2023 mac pro gives you is more internal storage ... not sure if thats enough for most people. I still have my 2019 with 14TB total storage, but my everyday is an M1pro macbook in clamshell mode, 1TB inside and 12TB attached by thunderbolt (usbC) 8TB is a file bucket and 4TB is a time machine for the internal drive (the filebucket is copied elsewhere)

    • @claytonberg721

      You can get a 2019 mac pro for $1100 now. In a few years when you can get the 2023 mac pro for that or less (maybe less?) it will make a killer home server. Yeah you can do that with a 7,1 or even a 5,1 but these xeon chips are power hogs. Apple silicon doesn't pull much power off the wall.

  • @alexblankenship7385

    As a 12 year old when this thing came out I was obsessed with the design and really wanted it but obviously wasn't going to get a $5999 thing. I can get the M2 Pro Mini now for just $1299 with a 10c CPU. I'm so glad there's more Pro level Apple desktops that cost less.

    Lots of people can make use of the PCIe slots. NVMe SSDs on PCIe cards have incredible performance, and they work much faster inside a Mac Pro than they would in an external enclosure. That also eliminates a lot of external clutter (enclosures, wall warts, power strips and cabling). And, a lot of those external enclosures have noisy fans that are not good in a recording studio.

    • @accordinglyryan
      @accordinglyryan  Год назад

      I mean sure but with the new Mac Pro that's basically all you can do with them (aside from some other really niche/specialty cards). Is that worth a $3K premium over the Studio? I think not.

    • @LeeBlaske
      @LeeBlaske Год назад

      @@accordinglyryan Start adding up the cost of Thunderbolt SSD drive, mechanical drive and NVMe enclosures, high quality Thunderbolt cables, power strips, and possibly extenders to keep those external cases and their noise far away, and maybe the cost of a quiet box for the noisy stuff, and pretty soon you've really spent a lot of that $3k you thought you saved. If you end up buying a Thunderbolt PCIe expansion chassis, you really aren't going to save anything. The ability to mount two large 3.5" mechanical drives in a Sonnet Fusion carrier in the top area of the Mac Pro (great for long term storage, and Time Machine) is another plus.
      Also, I've always replaced my studio Mac when a new model has come out, and I usually get a decent amount back from selling the old one. So, a good chunk of that $3k is only tied up temporarily.
      Check out the new 8x4 NVMe PCIe 4.0 PCIe card that Sonnet is bringing out. Fantastic for recording studio use, if you have a lot of sample library content to deal with.

    • @accordinglyryan
      @accordinglyryan  Год назад

      @@LeeBlaske I mean, I guess, but I still think that's a very niche use case. Far more niche than the 2019 model was.

    • @LeeBlaske
      @LeeBlaske Год назад

      @@accordinglyryan Yeah, except that maxing out a 2019 model was $50,000+. In comparison, $3k is sofa cushion change. ;)

    • @accordinglyryan
      @accordinglyryan  Год назад

      @@LeeBlaske What does that have to do with this conversation? You can throw just about anything you want into the PCIe slots of the 2019, no matter if its the base model or the maxed out one. That's the point I was trying to make. The new one has far less versatility in that department, and honestly serves no purpose for 99% of people. If there was a more powerful version available I'd say otherwise, but just buy the damn Studio. Built in storage is not worth an extra $3K. There literally is no other reason to buy it.

    iMac 27 2020 5K ( Core i7/i9 + AMD Pro 5700 XT) is the Best Intel-Mac made by Apple for Most users. For professional use It struggles with Logic Pro (Large Projects but if you upgrade the RAM to 128GB it runs smoothly) otherwise it's a very good machine with stunning color accuracy 27" 5K display (identical to Apple Studio Display) and it's AIO with very sleek and beautiful form factor that just needs a power cable to run + it runs Windows natively (like other Intel Macs).

  • @DBLCreations
    @DBLCreations 11 месяцев назад +1

    I completely agree with you. It's a beautiful machine. I bought it as well. And even though i never regret my purchase, i start to regret it a little bit at the moment. I noticed that you can't purchase a new GPU MPX module in the Apple store. Since i'm from Belgium it's very difficult to get upgrades. I wanted a new GPU because for me, my W5700XT has been a bottleneck but i also wanted to add more thunderbolt ports. This has now become impossible and i really don't like the way Apple has treated some of their pro(sumer) customers. Even RAM is not available anymore. Though this is something you shouldn't buy from the Apple store anyway. But it shows how quickly Apple is giving up on this machine and it will only get worse. I think we might see one or two more macOS updates for it and that will be it.

    I would love to see a Mac Pro with Apple silicon in a 2013 Mac Pro chassis. I use mine for video editing and it still does just fine. The M2 Mac Pro felt like a stop gap to fill a hole in the product line. I foresee Apple either killing it off completely or making something absolutely insane like 4 M5/M6 chips smashed together. The airflow of the case would give them a tremendous amount of thermal headroom to go wild though I don’t think it’s likely.

      Memory upgradability ecc is insanely good and great for ram disks etc 3d card sample libraries multitasking.
