But that is obviously untrue, as we kill multiple across various quests (every first time completion of a quest counts as "canon"). The thing is that base Malzeno has been confirmed to be peaceful and non aggressive so it's pretty clear not the entire species is like that but that Malzenos from around the citadel must all be infected
On Malzeno having multiple appearances, I think optional quests generally should be taken as a case by case basis for whether they're canon or not. For instance, I don't think we're hunting 10 or so of some rare elder dragon even if there are multiple optional quests for it. The Dos trio for instance I would presume at most three are hunted with the HR urgent and the Risen being the only ones I think absolutely happened despite there being a lot of optional quests for them in the game.

I love the way you talked about Malzeno, it really sells how twisted the Qurios have made it. On a completely separate note, I just realized that by dealing with the Anomaly Quests, the Hunter of Kamura is actively preventing another tragedy like what befell the Citadel. The people of the Citadel overlooked and ignored the Anomalies that were popping up and were destroyed by them, and Elgado was ready to do the same since they assumed the Qurio would kill their hosts before they could properly cause trouble. Interesting note about the Frenzy Virus - apparently it's a fungus, and it may be based on the Cordyceps fungus, similar to the one that creates the zombies in The Last of Us, except it does not produce fruiting bodies (aka mushrooms). When the virus infects a host, it essentially takes over the monster's brain, and the host's hyper-aggressive behavior may be the Frenzy learning to "drive" its host while simultaneously trying to propagate. Real-life Cordyceps do the same thing, but they generally direct their host (usually an insect) up a tree so it can spread its spores over the largest area. This parallels Gore Magala's preference for very high places - like Heaven's Mount and the peak of the Citadel area - as a place to molt. I also have this headcanon about how Afflicted Chaotic Gore Magalas and Risen Shagaru Magalas can come to be - if a Gore Magala inflicted with the Qurio Virus tries to molt, one of two things can happen depending on how tough the Gore is - if it is strong enough, the molt succeeds and it immediately becomes a Risen Shagaru, harnessing both the energy of the Qurio and the power of the Frenzy into one terrifying whole, making it the most difficult monster in Sunbreak at the time of this comment's posting. If it is _not_ strong enough, the molt fails, and it turns into an Afflicted Chaotic Gore Magala even without exposure to the "usual" method of creating their kind...and creating possibly the most agonized creature in the entire franchise.
Cordyceps actually doesn’t so much as touch the nervous system. It purely affects the muscles. The victims are perfectly aware the entire time they’re infected, up until it becomes fatal.
I sound like a broken record, but once again, this episode is even better than the last. The expanded intro on the region and it's habitatsworked really well as a setup for the Lunagaron. Can't wait to see what you got in store for us next. IncelMagnamalo/10
Oh boy cant wait to hear how those castle shaped rocks got there, Malzeno sure has a fun naturally ocurring habitat where no human civilization was wiped out, yep just castle and house shaped rocks all over.
I have a theory about scorned's dragon element: in syntesis I belive that like you said it's dragon element acquired from eating elders, but could also come from Apex monsters as well. I think Apex are made by Ibushi as a mating gift to grant Narwa enaugh proteins (or bioenergy, whatever) to carry the pregnancy without having to resort to cannibalism; the Apex monsters are chosen and infused with dragon element wich makes them go insane, then they scare off other monsters, causing the Rampage. All the scared monsters and the Apexes are then eaten by Narwa after the "procession" to her nest (Kamura was just in the way). Since Magnamalo seem to like looking out for rampages to feed, it's possible that Scorned could also prey on Apexes and as such absorb part of Ibushi's dragon element.
@@renown35nuke70 Doubtful. Scorned still needs bone marrow to maintain its hellfire, even though it no longer chooses to maintain its shell thanks to it being forever unable to get with the lady Magnamalos. Here's hoping we meet a second uninfected version, and it helps us against the final boss kind of like Nergigante sort of did with the story bosses in World.
It was confirmed by developers that Malzeno without the Qurio is rather peaceful and considerably weaker. The only way for such a Malzeno to appear is as being threated as a Basarios and Gravios sort of thing, and clearly it will not be the case in Rise.
Perhaps a Risen Malzeno arises, one that has fully overcome the influence of the Quirio driving it mad, and wields them as a true knight that battles with its pure heart against Gaismagorm
Gotta appreciate one thing, how this vid managed to age well: The Sunbreak Artbook did confirm most Malzeno are corrupted. Interestingly enough, I think it's one of the rare cases where an elder dragon gets actual speciation instead of a variant (with the rare case of Kirin). considering how immensely different the corrupts and primordials are, it seems like both have had a divergent evolution after the initial contact with the Qurio, with the corrupt ones growing twisted as time went on, while the primordials stayed the same.
I KNEW THIS WOULD BE SPECIAL!!! The "to be continued" shows it. I'm curious if we can get special focus on the Qurio for a separate video. To focus on them, Afflicted Monsters, and Risen Elder Dragons.
I have to speak on and compliment the use of focal lengths and aperture in this episode. It's visually stunning and your shots really do enhance the beauty of Rise and Sunbreak that I've already been appreciating but to a level that showcases such artistry that I'm maybe only more impressed by your script which truly sells the dangers of each monster. I used to think Shagaru simply *felt* stronger than Malzeno, despite the latter being amidst my favorites, and yet you gave him an even more proper introduction that practically overshadows the Magala's already boisterous presence. Spectacular work.
Excellent work! Been watching since Rajang and the quality of the writing narration, and pacing has improved more than I thought possible for videos of this type. The shots you get for demonstrating monster abilities are much cleaner and you do a great job making sure everything is visible. The interpretation on Scorned Magnamalo was fantastic as well; one of my favorite parts about this series is the insight you bring by contrasting the deviant monsters' behavior with the stock variety.
I didnt expect scorned magnamalo, but it is wellcome. The citadel is one of my fa maps, ust behind the jungle, its such a nice map to traverse and explore.
So essentially, malzeno is already a “risen” elder dragon, but not really. It would be so cool to fight a regular, non corrupted version of malzeno. It would probably use the wind stuff a lot more. Like maybe a variant
Incredible video as always! Though with the June update, I have a feeling the variant Malzeno may be the elder dragon restored to its original form with Gaismagorm dead, or like that elder dragon having fully symbiotically evolved with the qurio to become something else entirely. But a general headcanon I have regarding the arisen elder dragons is how if they lived for long enough and their symbiosis with the qurio allowed to grow further, would’ve overtime developed physical mutations like Malzeno did; going from a silver dragon to a scarlet vampire, to have the parasites exist thoroughly within the elder dragons. Thus those “burn marks" seen on risen elder dragons might be where those physical changes would’ve manifested until they looked similar to Malzeno.
Officialy a Malzeno without the Qurio is weaker and way less aggressive, so the second option is more likely. With Risen Elder's it's a much different thing than Malzeno. These Elder's literally beaten the Qurio who attacked it, and as a result they became stronger, while not using/having the Qurio in any shape or form anymore. They might change further overtime sure, but not in the same "way" Malzeno did.
@@eren7kruger129 I say the original form due to how the slither we see in the June update promo resembles the "silver dragon" the locales of the citadel described it to be before it’s symbiosis with the Qurio. That’s true, though the “scorched" marks on the elder dragons do seem to be a prelude for where these physical changes would’ve emerged overtime. Perhaps developing features to enhance their elemental abilities in some shape or form. And while not traditionally like Malzeno, these risen elder dragons could become a similar threat like Malzeno if left unchecked; which is why the guild makes it a priority to slay them.
@@shadowlord9607 I'd say basically any Risen Elder poses as much of a danger as a Malzeno already at bare minimun. The likes of Risen Shagaru Magala also are likely above it even on how much big disasters they could cause, not just on a power scale
as a side note idk if this question was ever satisfyingly answered but to the point of whether your documentaries are canon I mean technically no but they're canon to me and I think that's what really matters, at the end of the day. Your work was a big reason I went back to Monster Hunter and really gained an appreciation of it that I hadn't had before. Monster Hunter is a huge inspiration to me, and without being tuned into the worldbuilding by machinimadocs like Unnatural HC, Templin, and your channel I probably wouldn't have returned to it and MHW is a pretty big friggin deal to me, now. I'll fight a rajang right now me and my cat can rumble. But as a wise man once said, "Be humble when you rumble in the jungle." So in short, thanks my dude, sincerely, a Research Hunter
if I'm correct, there's a theory that says the Scorned Magnamalo we see in game is in fact the very same Magnamalo that once attacked Kamura village and was defeated by Fugen, Hojo & Hamon this theory actually would make sense, since well you can face the same monster more than once because its a game, but that doesn't mean there's no story element also the Scorned Magnamalo feeding on Elder Dragons isn't out of the question, we know regular Magnamalo's do fight elder dragons
A bit surprised that flaming espinas was not included but I guess it could be in the forbidden episode as the first encounter quest is in the forlorn arena
The way you describe Malzeno makes me very excited for the variant coming in June! We’ll finally be able to fight the guardian of the citadel in his full glory!
Oceaniz, I just wanna say how happy I am to have found your channel- your in-depth and detailed explanations going all the way back to when I was the land of monster hunter and then the black dragon ecology is just insane. You deserve all the good things that come to you because this is honestly a one of a kind gem with this channel and videos and I hope you continue making them. Take care of yourself man : )
I'm sorry if this is a bit over the top but honestly your videos are absolutely incredible, that did NOT feel like 40 minutes. Thank you so much for these videos because i love them.
17:01 “grabs prey before tearing them to shreds” *insert that one scene where a gorilla rips SpongeBob in half* Also, I like how scorned magnamalo is basically a deviant variant
ahh, the Citadel... one of my 4 favourite maps (the others being the Verdant Hills, the Marshlands and the Everwood). why? mostly because it's got a forest, a swamp (not the mire marsh) and a ruined fortress. and also because most of the monsters appear there. 6:21 and for some reason there's no gear unique to them. we could have had an armour set and SnS in reference to Goblin Slayer (they're basically MonHun's goblins). i view Garangolm as the Troll of the MonHun universe, mixed with a Golem and hints of Giant. Lunagaron... it's about time we got a proper wolf monster, even though it has scales, not fur. but it's also a Werewolf - an *"Old World Werewolf", as i call it. ever heard of the Beast of Gévaudan? it most likely was an adolescent lion, but how it was depicted was a large, black wolf with a lionine tail. Gore/Shagaru... my old friend. i'm not sure what Gore could be in terms of mythological references, but i can assume that Shagaru is an Angel. the main structure of the fortress is a church, and the dragon resides on the very top of the mountainous area (as high as an angelic-looking monster can get); not sure about you, but it makes sense to me. *side note:* Risen Shaggy is a blast! favourite Risen dragon. i know Malzeno is primarily based on a vampire - Dracula, specifically... but if you remove the vampire, you're left with the dragon: the kind you find on heraldry (i feel like everyone doesn't know this)... but also the kind a knight would slay, like Fatalis. by the by, you missed Malzeno's breath attack: you could pass it off as a power granted by the Qurio... *if it didn't inflict Dragonblight* - i should know, i got hit by it once or twice. but while i'm talking about of Malzeno, you're saying it once had a different "disposition" before it became a vampire? perhaps the new variant coming in June is what Malzeno used to be.
Really appreciated this to explain what Garangolm did to glue rocks and Luna did to grow bigger. Was confused, y'see. Plus I been busy so I hadn't read the lore.
I believe that shagaru/gore may have fights with malzeno over the fact that they both require hosts of sorts for their respective things to work that being frenzy and qurio making a sort of potential rivalry between the two. I also think it's really odd that the qurio don't go out crazy(causing that one lunagaron) right after malzeno but right after shagaru and other elders were defeated i believe gaismagorm was waiting for the perfect opportunity to get out and it was waiting for all potential rivals (malzeno and shagaru) and threats(the other elders) to dissapear before peaking out. As well the angel fighting a demon and vampire sounds somewhat fitting no?
Now I'm curious about what Malzeno looked and acted like before the Quirio. Because it was called a guardian I'm guessing was predisposed to forming symbiotic relationships with the things around it including humans, but now it's only a guardian to the Quirio. Considering it's bat like wing thumb claw I imagine it used that to navigate the branches of the areas large trees when our was to crowded to fly.
I hope we get to see the original Malzeno in the upcoming title update, a much more uniquely passive creature by nature. Since "mal" as a prefix in English means "bad," I can imagine the more peaceful form it once was might be called "Euzeno," since "eu" as a prefix means "good" (I doubt Malzeno was named with this in mind, but I just thought the idea was neat). Then again, there would be the challenge of justifying why we'd even fight its nicer, weaker version in the first place, especially as the final monster.
kinda sad chaotic gore wasn't there or mentioned a video on magala physiology would be interesting or going over some unique elder physiology. As nergigante has some unique methods of doing things.
Is it implied somewhere that shagaru is intimidated away or particularly threatened by malzeno? That seems perfectly reasonable, but i do not recall it. The ecology cutscene implied it was just reclusive inside the sanctuary and areas in that direction to me, so im curious.
That was GREAT I especially liked the progression with the poem The monster footage was an amazing addition to the biological explanations you were providing I truly loved the video, good job dude keep it up 💜💜
I believe there should be a new classification of creatures called "Pseudo-elders" which hole creatures like gore magala, devil Jo and savage devil Jo, scorned magnamalo. Any creatures that holds the ability to naturally produce and or easily control the dragon element. They are so close to being an elder, they are just missing one or two small things. Like hell, gore magalas very existence naturally causes death around it from the frenzy virus
I might be overthinking, but of the malzeno was changed from a guardian to a bloodhound, enough to even change its whole appearance, what did it originally look like?
Malzeno has been confirmed to, without the Quiro, passive and seem to be weaker than the one we saw with them. Not to mention, you can see hints of the Quiro on the variant (specifically on its chest, not to mention the energy sparks they produce). Adding onto the fact that the variants probably going to wrap up the Sunbreak/Quiro story, it seems very unlikely that this will be no-Quiro Malzeno. I doubt we’d ever get one due to the first reason mentioned above.
I had a thought... What if the supposed Malzeno variant that's set for June is one without the qurio, angered by the death and destruction of it's corrupted kin?
As far as we can tell, the Quiro are still present (you can see them on its chest and can see the Quiro’s energy sparks in the cutscene we saw, so they’re probably still around this Malzeno as well)
man i love your video always so good also i would love to go and fight along side a true malzeno and maby we could free malzeno in the bonus update coming in a few months
@@plus-delta4477 Malzeno without the Qurio was confirmed to be noticeably weaker, so 100% it will not be original Malzeno. It it was a subspecies/rare species, then there could have been a possibility, but not for a variant

5:52 I’m surprised we never got a *Great* Boggi.
we sadly didn't get Great Jaggi, either (to name *just one* mossed opportunity).
@@jacktheomnithere2127 one *missed* opportunity 😆
The quality of these videos are so high & consistent. Wishing for your good luck bro!
I'm sure TU6 will have a pure Malzeno, a long lost individuals xho never encountered quirios
A Malzeno known officialy to be weaker? Dubt it
Well aparantly this is the last monster
@@eren7kruger129 maybe not since the new malzeno is a pure form while the other is a twisted bloodhound
@@eren7kruger129 The irony
as a side note idk if this question was ever satisfyingly answered but to the point of whether your documentaries are canon I mean technically no but they're canon to me and I think that's what really matters, at the end of the day.
But as a wise man once said, "Be humble when you rumble in the jungle."
So in short,
thanks my dude,
sincerely, a Research Hunter
if I'm correct, there's a theory that says the Scorned Magnamalo we see in game is in fact the very same Magnamalo that once attacked Kamura village and was defeated by Fugen, Hojo & Hamon
this theory actually would make sense, since well you can face the same monster more than once because its a game, but that doesn't mean there's no story element
also the Scorned Magnamalo feeding on Elder Dragons isn't out of the question, we know regular Magnamalo's do fight elder dragons
A bit surprised that flaming espinas was not included but I guess it could be in the forbidden episode as the first encounter quest is in the forlorn arena
Been binging these videos both awake and while trying to sleep, so thank you!
“Scorned Magnamalo is one of the most dangerous monsters observed by the guild”
Flaming Espinas vs Scorned Magnamalo Video: hey
The way you describe Malzeno makes me very excited for the variant coming in June! We’ll finally be able to fight the guardian of the citadel in his full glory!
The citadel story is quite a tale. The Magalas and Malzeno, and scorned magnamalo are quite cool looking while also wicked.
Take care of yourself man : )
Hmm... No Chaotic Gore. Ill asume hes gonna be in the forbiden monsters video then?
Let’s hope
i believe he will be.
sad
21:40 I see what you did there
I'm sorry if this is a bit over the top but honestly your videos are absolutely incredible, that did NOT feel like 40 minutes. Thank you so much for these videos because i love them.
Always making my day when I see a new one of these when I'm on a break at work. Great video as always! Keep up the good work 😁
Isint Gammoth the largest fanged beast?
Might be all that fur, making it look poofy
@@LordShonji I see what you did there.
maybe its only referrring to the monkey types
to my knowledge, he is (i speak of Elderfrost).
hello again, friend :)
can't wait for June. and how was Risen Shaggy for you?
@@jacktheomnithere2127 hard but very fun! Cant wait either!
27:04 i know cannot stop thinking how much smart this mf is. Thank you Oceaniz, you have opened a world to me
Just when I thought your videos couldn’t get any better, they did.
2:27 couldn't get my eyes of this tiny black mark on the left until I made sure it was a Gore magala 😂
17:01 “grabs prey before tearing them to shreds” *insert that one scene where a gorilla rips SpongeBob in half*
Also, I like how scorned magnamalo is basically a deviant variant
well, the silver knight returned, how fitting
ahh, the Citadel... one of my 4 favourite maps (the others being the Verdant Hills, the Marshlands and the Everwood). why? mostly because it's got a forest, a swamp (not the mire marsh) and a ruined fortress.
and also because most of the monsters appear there.
Gore is somewhat based on a demon
ah yes, finally, citadel and entries for the eclipse dragons, i've been waiting for this!
dang its kinda sad not gonna lie how a protecter became a monster
Man, the Gore Magala's design is so cool
It'll be really funny if the Malzeno variant completely undoes the "all individuals have been spotted with Qurio" thing.
So for the forbidden episode, are you going to be covering the forlorn Arena and infernal spring?
It's always fun to watch World rookies try to make heads or tails of the Frenzy Virus.
Malzeno does still protect that forest, by stealing Quiro from gaismagorm. A noble sacrifice I suppose
Really appreciated this to explain what Garangolm did to glue rocks and Luna did to grow bigger. Was confused, y'see.
Plus I been busy so I hadn't read the lore.
Oceaniz has posted. Today is a good day
I believe that shagaru/gore may have fights with malzeno over the fact that they both require hosts of sorts for their respective things to work that being frenzy and qurio making a sort of potential rivalry between the two.
But also.. a story of silver and gold. A silver monster corrupted into darkness. A dark monster born and shed into golden light.
Now I'm curious about what Malzeno looked and acted like before the Quirio. Because it was called a guardian I'm guessing was predisposed to forming symbiotic relationships with the things around it including humans, but now it's only a guardian to the Quirio. Considering it's bat like wing thumb claw I imagine it used that to navigate the branches of the areas large trees when our was to crowded to fly.
gotta love how wrong the sound of garangolm fertilizing the soil with his thick juice still sounds even in documentary format.
Im convinced the last monster is gonna be Malzeno's original form.
Is it implied somewhere that shagaru is intimidated away or particularly threatened by malzeno? That seems perfectly reasonable, but i do not recall it. The ecology cutscene implied it was just reclusive inside the sanctuary and areas in that direction to me, so im curious.
I wonder if we can fight a pre changed malzeno, or whatever it would be called. Some strange subset far from the citadel
Always a great watch!😮
I love Malzeno a lot and here it’s story of being turned to evil made me a little sad. rip my boy
That was GREAT
I especially liked the progression with the poem
The monster footage was an amazing addition to the biological explanations you were providing
I truly loved the video, good job dude keep it up 💜💜
Whos here from that final bonuses update with Primoral Malzeno and it's ending with the story?
Even tho I've kinda fallen out of monster hunter I still enjoy these
So you mean to say even before the Qurio biological buffs, Malzeno was already capable of scaring away Shagaru Magala?
To say the shagaru magala would be propelled by something is bold
I believe there should be a new classification of creatures called "Pseudo-elders" which hole creatures like gore magala, devil Jo and savage devil Jo, scorned magnamalo. Any creatures that holds the ability to naturally produce and or easily control the dragon element. They are so close to being an elder, they are just missing one or two small things. Like hell, gore magalas very existence naturally causes death around it from the frenzy virus
I hope they create a malzeno who Isn't infected by the kyurio
Imagine a silver dragon like that
I might be overthinking, but of the malzeno was changed from a guardian to a bloodhound, enough to even change its whole appearance, what did it originally look like?
I have hope that minimaps will be next, but just what makes you comfortable.
You know maybe the malzeno variant we're getting could be a malzeno without the qurio
Dont give up, be like Scorned Magnamalo
Can’t wait for the Malzeno we get in the Bonus update to be the true Malzeno pre Qurio in it full glory
I genuinely thought that the things on Malzeno's chest and arms were feathers.
I had a thought... What if the supposed Malzeno variant that's set for June is one without the qurio, angered by the death and destruction of it's corrupted kin?
As far as we can tell, the Quiro are still present (you can see them on its chest and can see the Quiro’s energy sparks in the cutscene we saw, so they’re probably still around this Malzeno as well)
Let's go it's finally out
Who would win?
Scorned Magnamalo or Ruiner Nergigante?
In the meantime, could you do a in universe timeline of monster hunter
This was fantastic, well done ✅
You forgot to say how the malzeno is related to the vhelkana
Gore magala should definitely be an elder dragon
What a great video, i wonder how you will do the final bosses of Rise\sunbreak
man i love your video always so good also i would love to go and fight along side a true malzeno and maby we could free malzeno in the bonus update coming in a few months
But around the same time the next and probably final months until rise update is the forbidden episode that could not be more perfectly Timed
Great work ❤
Thanks For this incredible videos!😊😊😊
Everyone: excited to see Malzeno's original form in TU6
Me: having a feeling he's just going to look like a less coked out Valstrax
great video is it ok if I ask you a question?
Glorious as always.
the 8 dislikes are from the small monsters you pissed off
To be honest I think the curios are forcefully on malzuno theirs likely no willing part of it.
Don't forget about the qurio virus, which appears to be a mutated offshoot of the frenzy virus
to this day it still REALLY bugs me that Boggy don't give you any Gear to make, not even cute cat or dog armor
Sorry if this is a dumb question but where in sunbreak is it referred that Malzeno was more peaceful?
It was revealed on in a design interview over on Capcoms website.
@@Oceaniz ah. Damn that is actually really interesting then. I always thought Mal evolved to take the qurio from redacted.
@Oceaniz Do you think the new Malzeno variant is the original form, or an even more corrupted version?
@@plus-delta4477 Malzeno without the Qurio was confirmed to be noticeably weaker, so 100% it will not be original Malzeno. It it was a subspecies/rare species, then there could have been a possibility, but not for a variant
this video made me to love Malzeno more at first i hate malzeno now i love him i'm very exited what they going to do with the variant.
Then mal was once a good teddy like dragon until it battle with The Thing(not to spoil..) that came up from the depths..
