August 1996 ,this song soundtracked my summer and brief dalliance with a beautiful Irish- American girl called a Erin , we played it constantly as we drove around the lake on summer evenings . She broke my heart in the end but I have this to cling to , beautiful nostalgia and the endless possibilities of youth...........
lol is your name Alan by chance? in 96 my aunt Erin was in a relationship with a guy named Alan and their last time together was by our lake where he ruined their relationship by spin swinging my cousin (aunts son) by the arm like super mario. darkly funny to imagine him listening to this reminiscing on his dead beat summer lmao
Today is the best day I have had in a long time! This song is a gem. Damn! I feel alive. I feel something that makes me realise that there is life, and connection and beauty. This song makes me realise that I am not alone. It offers a strange kind of comfort and solace.
By far my favorite song by Mark, reminds me of my youth so much, you can feel the torment especially near the end, the Electric Guitar abstractly playing against the calm acoustic just brilliant contrast. It reaches my soul.
Found this track quite by accident, it reminds me of some other pieces, perhaps that is the influence it holds. A beautiful song well played and I shall be back again to listen on a regular basis
@Pepefromthebario, I also heard about it when I was watching that video. I love both of these songs, Have You Forgotten was the only Red House Painters song I knew, but I am discovering they are all just as good.
American Music Club had a song , Western Sky , inspired by Nicks Northern Sky . Kozelek was discovered by them.......so i would say he’s being economical with the truth . It matters not , all three are truly wondrous songs .
Check out "The Priest's Song" from the movie with Andy Garcia called "The Line" on Netflix. That is how I got here and I think the guitar is more amazing on that song. This is what RUclips is for....and now drifting off to look up the tabs--for free...
One of those songs that i always listen to,at least once or twice a day. This is a masterpiece, composed from and with the heart, true music, honest art and that outro with the guitar feedback soundscape is so beautiful and melancholic at the same time, pure beauty
I absolutely love this song. Been a lover of red house painters since 2001!

&LoveForAll hey, my heart was also broken by an Eryn (yeah that’s how it’s spelled).
RHP is pretty much a catharsis from her to me
Trailways is also my broken heart theme song, it will always bring me back to those times
The most tragic thing of youth is when you choose one possibility and is wrong

I think it's funny that comments like this sound like Mark Kozelek lyrics
My favorite Red House Painters song.

This song is a very profound meditation on love and time
the feedback solo is memory written in sound. absolutely breathtaking
“ memory written in sound “ I love that , beautifully put .
Triple synesthesia there

The weeping guitar. Tune back in to start the song from the beginning only to realise there's another 2minutes to go. How blissful
One of Kozelek's bests.
second part really takes you somewhere else...
This song is my nostalgia word for word, couldn't be any more perfect.
My all time favorite Mark Kozelek song.

@Pepefromthebario, I also heard about it when I was watching that video. I love both of these songs, Have You Forgotten was the only Red House Painters song I knew, but I am discovering they are all just as good.

Where is Liz Phair in this song?
This song is absolutely gorgeous, and holds a special place for me.....thanks for posting!
sounds like Nick Drake, even though Kozelek said he never heard of him until after RHP got popular

Music of sand

red house chili painters
Biblical.
Here it is all mark kozelek, poetry and violence, acoustic and electric, warm and cold, melodic and out of tune...the contrasts are all here
